To get a correct reading on the tone of this short, look at it from a 1940's perspective.
It's not propaganda, it's satire, a social commentary. It's something 80% of trashy, un-artisan, banal, retarded cartoons now lack. If you don't yet pity our youth, you should be paying more attention to what they watch. Shame on all major production companies. The exceptions in the cartoon world, of course, are many of the adult-oriented ones, now, like Family Guy, Beavis and Butthead, Aqua Teen Hunger..
how can it been legal for them to do a children program and use the thing they have in 6:27 in this show? And they wounder why people today use those and knock people down? BECUSE THEY WAS LOOKING AT IT AND SAW IT WHEN THEY WAS SMALL PERHAPS?
@Guesswh012 Oh c'mon. It begin earlier when you read fairy tales at your kids bed. The imagination of some violents in there...... Or didn't you play cowboy or thief and policeman. Tell the trouth, how many times you shot the indian and the thief?
Cartoons was very serious propaganda in WW2 in US, it was important for the good moral and hope for everybody, and I think they worked in a good way :-)

...Force, Home Movies, and so on. They stick to Walt's tradition of social commentary and relevant humor.
Donald's middle name, Fauntleroy, comes from the name for the type of hat he usually wears.
And brass knuckles in cartoons didn't screw people up, political correctness and sensitivity did.
There's more to old cartoons I grew up on, than the flashy shit that rapes the masses through forsaken airwaves on Sunday mornings.

But in the end Donald told us that the army is "poorly", right? So, it isn't propaganda at all.

@Guesswh012 Donald Duck is not a kid's show, that's why there are so many violent parts. =P
Just look at the episode "Clown of the Jungle", the annoying bird is pointing a gun at his temple and almost drinks fuel for God's sake.
That's what you call a children program?

@Laurelindo Well, back then, the world was not full of pussies and people who find things like that offensive. I put emphesis on the "Pussies".

Propaganda? The song that plays at the beginning contradicts what Donald goes through in this and later wartime cartoons!
