yeah but in this race, Raikkonen had a much faster car than Kubica on the straights, but couldn't overtake Kubica, Raikkonen tried for 7 laps and failed
@beyblader10171 you should know that kubica is very difficult to pass and if you were in raikkonen's shoes , you would take a lifetime and still fail at passing kubica
yes i agree with you, but let's remember that the cars were different in those days, and the drivers were not as talented, we even have kubica, webber, vettel, alonso, hamilton, and if you look at kimi's seasons at mclaren, he only had alonso and and schumi as a main threat
@beyblader10171 Kimi's car was damaged after contact with Heikki on the first corner...Something like the rear brake cooling on the right side and some aero pieces were severely damaged etc.
@beyblader10171 Lololol. What excuses? If the car's damaged it's damaged and when youre running the cars to the limit, any deviation can be the difference between faster than a beemer and same pace/slightly slower.
@beyblader10171 You know Kubica IS very hard to pass we saw that in the last years race if im not mistaken, the last track when Alonso tried to pass him and couldn't so the whole race he was behind him, if they will give kubica a proper car then he will get higher ground (:
no way, that bmw was not fast down the straights i can tell you for a fact, the ferrari was consistently fast through all the speed traps, not at this track, but at most of the circuits in 2008. Hmm fair enough the actual engine plant on the bmw may have been more powerful, but because of the aerodynamics of the ferrari car, it could do more speed on the straights and still have good downforce for the corners
The F2008 was a beauty of a car. Shame it was hardly a car that was going to Kimi's liking till the second half of 2008. Basically Kimi was always a bit on his backfoot trying to defend his world title.
@Castrol12 actually the problem for raikkonen was he had trouble getting his tyres warm for his final qualifying lap soo he was away from the front but when it came to race pace he had them on piont thats why he set around 11 race fastest laps in 2008 ;)
@thachiman Well that was one of the things about the car Kimi didn't like. Because the front didn't warm up enough he couldn't get quite the slide he wanted or liked from the car and instead it understeered. I think the only time he didn't have the problem with tyres warming up was Magny-Cours, but then he was hit with an exhaust failure. Fortunately he still finished second.
@Castrol12 yeah i would of loved it if he continued his form from magny cours but in 2008 i think felipe massa should of won at singapore but pique delibrate crash caused a safety car and then they made a mistike because of the stuupid ttraffic light system ;/
@thachiman Likewise, but sadly development on the car tended to favour Massa's driving style more. Agreed about Massa and the Singapore crash gate, but sadly Piquet Jnr who was involved with Briatore and Symonds committed the act of crashing in order to help keep his drive. Ultimately though, Piquet Jnr just isn't good enough compared to the other F1 drivers.
Here you can see that the car shows no signs of oversteering as Kimi likes, instead there is undeersteering which Massa prefers (noob isn't)!Kimi was forced to use noob's setups in whole 2008 and 1st half of 209!!!
Is it just me, or does it look like there's absolutely no front end grip on that thing? I suppose he did that car issues that race, but it looks horrid in the slow speed corners. I guess a combination of that and the Ferrari generally being understeery in the slower corners
@legendkillerpunt F60 is a tortoise pretending to be a rabbit in the hands of raikkonen....just like what kimi had made in mp4-17d,its a third fastest car on that season but he was able to push michael till last gp.what kept from idolizing him is during the belgian gp which i dunno what year,i think one of the toyota's had their engine blowed up producing a wall of smoke.then bang!!!kimi just blitz through it without lifting the throttle!!!
loved the colour of the 2008 ferrari. quite dark! Thought Kimi was unlucky that year, things got away from him really fast. He had magny cours won until he had some weird engine problem and he had to let massa thru. He never really got the momentum back after that, and his head dropped when the title got out of his reach.
He was unreal in 2007 and the second half of 2009. In fact, id venture to say the second half of 09 was kimi's best display in an F1 car. better than 05 and 07 for me.

@beyblader10171 the BMW at that time was carrying more wing, so they were a tad bit faster than the ferrari's in the corners....
azraaiyunos 8 months ago
@beyblader10171 That BMW engine is at least more powerful than the Ferrari powerplant, if not down the straights too.
