I think the video is kind of a play on to the song. Adele is water and Daniel is the flame or vice versa. She's out of his life so he's pondering alone in his house. The video is not taken out of context. Adele's voice is so strong that her presence is not missed.

What a mistake not to put Adele in this video. Having this punk looking guy singing to Adele would have softened his image. BAD career move for a guy who only had a brief spark in the US (an extremely low flame). Heck Adele is loved everywhere weight and all.

@wmanser I remember reading somewhere that the reason why she wasn't in the video was because she was sick. I know it's not much of a proof or anything since I can't find the link to put here. But I'm just pointing it out, cos I don't think Daniel Merriweather purposefully didn't put her in the video. Anyway I think they both sing very well. and this song is lovely. :)
