Interesting that the Canadian judge only gave him 5.7 for artistic when his closest challenger was Kurt Browning, a Canadian. It wasn't just the Eastern block judges that were biased.
@208327650 I believe you wanted to be funny.LOL!!! The 6.0 system wasn't better but a lot of the routines back then were a lot more artistic than today's programs. If you want to see a good jumping contest you can take a look at some of today's competitions, the last thing that a lot of skaters have is an artistic program!
I agree with ft192, this was the best SP he ever did. I was in Munich this year, it was my first Worlds and it is some much more impressive live, the speed, the coverage, the height of the jumps and most importantly, the atmosphere which was amazing. The design of the Olympia halle just amplified the tension and excitement. I remember the practice sessions, all in one lycra cat suits were the order of the day for practice session, very fetching and a real treat for us ladies.
Such beautiful jumps. The air positions are especially nice. And of course the landings on both the combo and the lutz with the arms folded in front show great control & fit well with the music.
To ft192 - yes a brilliant programme but I still preferred his Bonnie & Clyde/See you later Alligator short programme from 1990. When he performed it at Worlds it was ELECTRIC. Good old Victor, what has happened to Soviet skaters nowadays? Mind you, this stupid scoring system does not help. Most routines look the same and are all without character. Bring back the old 6.0/ Anyone agree?

Thank you very much for uploading this. I'm too young to remember him, so I was really glad to have a chance to see this.

He gets such amazing height on his 3axel. It looks like he could easily do a quad axel. Just wow!

that was the most amazing 3axel/3toe combo ever. Heck, the most amazing combo ever, period!

Viktor was really at his best when he was chasing a leader, and not the leader. His performances here were far better than the Olympics.
