Kind of a nu-metal song. Not Iommi's best riffage but surprisingly Henry sounds great on this track. If he felt like selling out in the late 90's he prob coulda pulled off the nu-metal thing very well. He sounds like Mike Patton on this track.
agree that iommi and rollins should start a band, especially now that ronnie james dio (RIP) is gone. he retraced the 70s with the reunited black sabbath, on through the 80s with heaven and hell, and should now keep going, maybe start an entirely new genre, with henry rollins.
Iommi... He's just the best at what he does... alway's has been... It sounds demented saying this, but (and I'm sure guitar players that study his sound would agree) I think getting the tips of his ring and middle finger lopped off, totally developed that 'sound'... the power in his forefinger and pinky, and those sliding riffs he does with the lighter gauge strings, along with that signiture overdrive... hit's you right in the gut... bad... what else can you say...
@04softail70 Think he actually uses heavy gauge strings so he can detune further making the strings slacker and easier on his fingers, just something i read in an interview, might have been an issue of Classic Rock or something
I think Tony was channeling Dimebag when he wrote the main riff. ( yah, I know Dime wasn't dead yet, but you know what I mean ). Listen to the solo, it's like a Dimbag CFH era solo.
this album was a milestone for Sabbath fans like me that regrettably backpeddaled away from hard rock when they broke up and I was buying Mettalica, and only like a small percentage of the Ozzie solo bands, although, he hit right on the head while obviously going with the times.
if it wasn't for Soundgarden totally getting it absolutely right, I might never have listened to hard rock again. then came this album IOMMI. along with all of Soundgarden and Audioslave, this remains a milestone.
It's too bad there were no videos for this album. Would love to see Tony working with the other artists. Too bad there's no videos of the composition/recording process available either. It's one of my favorite albums.
Henry is talking about putting together a new album from what I've heard. I wonder if he's still got it. As far as I'm concerned he's already etched out his legacy as one of the greatest frontmen off all time, but I would love for him to put out at least one more album. As long as it's with the classic Rollins Band lineup of Haskett, Gibbs, and Cain, none of that Mother Superior crap.
Fucking couldn't have said it better myself, I spoke with Henry after the classic Rollins Band reunion in 2006 or was it 2005, don't remember, but I asked Henry why they broke up and he told me that getting those guys together to write music is like squeezing blood out of a turnip
hell no i like him in circle jerks and i like keith in black flag but his voice sounds so horrible in black flag. black flags last albums were great, especially my war, and that era was the only time that henry auctialy WASNT trying to put on the meathead image. but remember, black flag is bassically greg ginns music not rollins and if you look at it that way i think you will find out that ginns more creative work was done later, but he was great since the beginning of black flag.great guitarist
this is actually some of Henry's most approachable vocal work, very 'pop' for him but very henry still, i think they work well together and i would love to hear tony and henry do a real project, but this is more than acceptable. def the best song off that album for me at least.
Great song. It is really a unique sound they got going on in this tune, Henry Rollins is not like your typical metal singer he's always had his own style. And Iommi sounds really clear and clean in this one unlike his usual distortion and sludgy ominous style. Some people would say Henry doesn't fit this type of music but I think he does a good job. Rollins is a legend in his own right, and so is Iommi.
a lot of people say that Tony Iommi was good for his time...But I think that no matter what era of rock we were in..Be it 70's or 80's metal or Nu-Metal Iommi Could come up with riffs that are better than most guitarists. What do You Guys Think?
@abe1sapien Iommi is absolutely the greatest!!! There`s no better riff-finder in the world and the way he plays them is so far awy from all others. his sound blows me away evry time i listen to him!!!! No better player on planet!!!!
WHOA. You'd have thought that this would sound like a band more punky than Sabbath, or more heavy than Black Flag, but it sounds like neither at all! This will take some getting used to, but I do like it. If anything, it reminds me of a very fast Melvins song.
Iommi and Rhoads are different and both great!!!

Jimmy Copley, actually. Yinnie wasn't even on the album, and Bill only played on the song with Ozzy.

Absolutely. Tony Iommi is The King Of The Riffs. Tony could walk up to almost any guitarist and make their head explode with one mighty power chord.
