  • The problem with this bloke and his method to learning the language is that we have to actually GO to the country to speak it. Sorry, but we can't all be rich enough to travel to Spain and Italy and France and STAY there for three months just to learn the language.

I mean what does that even mean? The method to speaking a language you know very little on is to stop speaking English and start speaking said language (which again, you know nothing about). What does that mean? Seriously?

  • @Guest1016 Why on earth would I talk about Politics or Literature? [Which you spelled incorrectly by the way, as well as having poor punctuation in your comment Mr nitpicker, so I guess English isn't one of your fluent languages?] I don't talk about these in English. Should I demand that you give me a lecture on quantum physics before I believe your claim to fluency in any language, including your mother tongue? The topic was my language learning experience.

  • How come you previously couldn't learn any German for 5-6 years but then learned to speak in a much faster time? What did you do differently?

  • @SummerKingdom The first time was purely academic, in a very inefficient learning environment (Irish secondary school). The second time I focused on immersion and had friends (and a girlfriend) entirely in German.

  • @irishpolyglot So if I take German in highschool next year, it will be a waste of time?

Sehr beeindruckend! weiter so..

I also fucking hate listening exams as well, especially when they talk too fast.

  • Sehr schoenes Deutsch!

  • This man is as source of inspiration to me!

I would write in Japanese too but I just started to learn :D

  • Bonege!

Vi pravas kiam vi diras lerni lingvon vere estas facile.

    Dankon.

  • Dude, you German sounds really fluent. I'm happy you made the video. Plus respect points for Benny.

  • Gratulieren !

  • 1:37: Sure, the best way to learn something is "to experience" it. I think Berlin was one of the most proper towns to learn German at a open minded daily base. Congratulation :-)

  • Sehr gut Benny!

  • We need more of these types of interviews. Great job Benny!

  • When I saw the thumbnail I thought the guy in blue was Peter Jackson.

  • mann!

  • @irishpolyglot DANKON KAJ ANTAUXDANKON

  • Mistaken for a native speaker after 3 months?

  • @mednos I initially was aiming for that, but people who read the blog know that I decided to focus my energy on the exam.

  • how old were u when you first started learning languages

  • @cxkozel 21. That's when I went to Spain

  • what language was being spoken at the beginning?

  • @daglug1 Irish (Gaeilge). There is another part of the interview with more Irish I will upload soon. The presenter works for an Irish learning programme and was interviewing me about language learning in general for his site.

  • When I saw the thumbnail, I thought the guy in blue was Peter Jackson.

  • When I saw the thumbnail, I thought the guy in blue was Peter Jackson.

  • Pretty interesting interview!

  • @AndreR241 Thanks! Glad you liked it :)

  • Agreed on books. I learned Irish from starting up a local conversational circle. Your natural ability to just pick out words, and phrases and put them into use in a relaxed environment is a real progressive way to learn a language. Immersion is the best method, as you've demonstrated yourself.

Granted, I only place myself in an immersion environment for 2 or 3 hours once a week, but I've learned more in the past 3 years, than I learned throughout school.

    Our politicians should take notes!

  • @SeanOBriain Well said - even 2 or 3 hours a week is something that can force you to improve very quickly!

    Thanks for the comment :)
