@HideYourKids100 And you obviously missed a smart opportunity to shut the hell up. Next time, watch the video carefully, refrain from spitting out ridiculous shit and dont even fkn presume to tell me ANYTHING about the The Melvins
I listen to this when I'm racing my car at the drag strip, talk about sensory overload!! oh yeah, saw Melvins and Mudhoney in MPLS in the mid-90's incredible show.
@RLC761 Not sure why, they're twenty years or so as a band. If you've heard of Nirvana, this guitarist is one of Kurt Cobain's super influences while hanging out at recording and jam shesh's and general whatever. Mainstream channels never did much melvins stuff that I know of, but they have a ton of songs that I'm still not done listening to yet. Some first albums are Ozma, and Gluey Porch Treatments i think... Do enjoy your research!
@R1a1i1n1f1a1c1e1 Dude I just want you to know Buzz was more than just an influence to Kurt, he was like his best friend and shit and Kurt was like at all the Melvins shows (or rehearsals i don't know) Kurt even PLAYS on some tracks on "Houdini" :D
@solutreansocialclub I love giving my girlfriend head. And I love listening to the melvins. Have to try doing both at the same time :) Eargasm + Orgasm = what?
not that i'm saying anything negative here, cus' i'm a member of the Melvins Army and love everyone whose helped the creative process of the greatest rock band ever...but did Crover actually write all the music for this song? Not saying Crover couldn't, but i've never heard of him writing another song that was this important to the melvins
@dommer117 Buzz is the one that usually wrote the songs and came with all the "ideas/concepts". but yeah, dale wrote all the music of this song, he even play sitar and some guitar on this track...buzz did the lyrics and vocals.
@pesely Well, theyre all a bit different i guess. Gluey Porch Treatments is really hardcore punk rockish, Ozma is really nasty (in a good way) sounding, Lysol is slow and destructive as hell, Houdini is really, really sludgey and metally, This CD is the most rock/grundgey. Honestly thats all the ones i can think of now, other than like Prick and Honky which are all experimental noise stuff basically. Hope thatl help a bit
Incredible music. Back in 1996, I was only listening to commercial shit (there's good mainstream songs, but not as good as this one!!!). I was really missing something!!!
@MrKaizer76@MrKaizer76 .... because Mastodon would NEVER cover ANYthing that's not completely fucking epic. anyway, MOST of Melvins early work was covers.... and I can certainly see King Buzzo covering something Mastodon... Naked Burn? Black Tongue? I think the Czar would just be too long.... Melvins songs are rarely longer than a few minutes.
@fredbear18 You have it mixed up. Mastodon sounds a bit like the melvins. I think they bonded over their collective love for them. Same thing happened with isis I think.
@ScrewVev0 Brent has played the bit with the melvins and buzzo has played it with mastodon. Its a bonus track on one of mastodons albums, and they do it on their live album.
@hojima Lol, NO dude. Bonus track on which Mastodon album? I'm curious because (other than Stag) I only heard versions on We Reach and the Fantomas\Melvins Big Band album.
(By the way, the live performance of this song from the latter? Now THAT's some EPIC stuff for people to check out. And this way before Mastodon ever did it and before Melvins even had two drummers)
@ghoawaynetcabo ohhh. I must have been mixing it up. I was sure it was a bonus on leviathan until I checked, then I forgot that I had said that. Herp.
This is fucking amazing!! I've always heard people talk about the Melvins but have never got round to checking them out, then I heard Mastodon had covered this so thought I'd check the original out first and this is awesome!
I heard Mastodon's version first and liked it. Then I tracked this down, thinking well this version won't be as heavy, but it might still be worth a listen. Well, it's heavier and about 1000 times better.
@yusifer I saw Mastodon in a TINY venue in Glasgow a good few years back... bloody hell... Awesome! PS your "I shat myself" comment made me do a genuine "lol" :))
@cbennett0811 I think that is because, if you came for a Melvins video is because you like it, if you know of them is because you like it. Influential but very unknown band. Yes, a freakin' irony.
I'm ecstatic how the Melvins have managed to stay somewhat underground throughout their 20+ career as musicians, unlike some of their influences, that have sadly passed away.
This is probably the most perfect mind control anthem ever. Also, a lot of sexual undertones. Animal abuse, prostitution, whatever it's about, it's amazing.
I got into these guys through Mastodon too. I'd love to see the two bands play this together live like they did that one time on that youtube video. Both amazing bands \m/ \m/
Melvins version sounds heavier, yet more crisp. Although I have respect for mastadon, they didnt do this song justice, which is ok because thats a tall order.
Such a fuckin' riff that is.
