When you train them right, that is what should happen. A well trained horse is confident, and handles a bad situation like that by waiting for instruction. The problem is, not many drivers train their horses that well, which explains the plethora of bad accident/runaway films on youtube. Kudos to this driver for preparing his pair well.
Die Pferde sind ruhig geblieben.Die Verbindung zwischen den Pferden und dem Fahrer blieb erhalten......So etwas kann passieren und ist hier ruhig und sachlich gelöst wurden.
If the driver stayed to the right hand side of the turn like your supposed to this wouldn't have happened and his rein handling really isn't that good. If you want to see good driving look at Dick Lane, Pippa Basset, Karen Basset, Georgina Frith (now hunt) Boyd Excell, any one of the Bowmans. Theres a difference between being able to drive and being good at driving.
It's at marathon cart, and since I drive I can tell you this is what is call a team! Horses trusting their driver! Bet they had miles together under their belt.
I love these little surrys! They dont break!! they can flip and jacknife and be just fin! Too bad they dont really make them for drafts...the ones that they do make are pricey!
@Saartje05: ok then...9 times of 10 these awesome little buggies don't break! And they are more versatile than your standard wood built carriage even with a fifth wheel. They are designed to go through hell and back, and yes everything is capable of breaking...titanic anyone? But they have a lesser chance of breaking because its what they are designed to do.
@pinkfeathers2006 True, but I'm at driving competitions often in the season because I"m in the organisation. Then you see more broken carriages than people would expect.
@idd79 Carriage horses are trained to voice commands. The driver is telling them to go left or right, slow or speed up. Voice training is essential in carriage driving because you don't have legs to aid in controlling the horse.
I know there in a competition and that the competition is feirce, but i would have taken just afew seconds to reassure my horses before continuing if that had been me, even if it was the few seconds between winning and loosing. They could quite easily have paniced, but they didnt. They were sooooo well behaved!! But i do hope their horses welfare is more important to them than winning =) Good recovery though, an exiting sport too =) An eliment of risk as wirth any equine sport =) x
so not a bad driver! il a sa lisence, il sait conduire hein, et il felicite son cheval et tout et n'utilise pas que le fouet donc tu te la met ou je pense hein lol
@arnaultequin Nonsense, he's not a very bad driver. I've seen the world champion four in hand fall over, you can't say he's a bad driver either. This just happens now and then.

@ceahorse56 LOL, You'll find that we call them marathon carriage's and this is a pair or technically a multiple.
UrbanPrincess95 10 months ago
@ceahorse56 If you really knew as much as you think you do, you would know that a team is 4 horses, a pair is 2.

@pinkfeathers2006 You'd surprised to know even these carriages can break. It doesn't happen often but I've seen it several times.
