  • I really enjoyed your video. I am making my first attempt this year, just planted it yesterday, but worried I may have sowed the seeds to deep. I used the end of my hoe to make the holes and I believe they were between 2-2.5inches deep. Do you have recommendations for organic fertilizer for growing corn? Where are you from? Australia?

  • hey man great video! recently i decided to plant some corn kernels in a 1 1/2 inches tall and 9 inches long clear tubberware container and so far two have grown and they are 8 1/2 inches tall and have 3 leaves each... i have a larger pot that is 4 1/2 inches deep but i haven't moved them into it yet... any tips and when i should move them? *random, but when i started using gatorade to water the plants they seemed to grow 1/2 inch to and inch a day.... is there a reason for this?*

    Thanks!

    Steven

  • @TheWorldofAsians It's got what what plants crave, it's got electrolytes.

  • watch the frost in uk plant out in late may

  • short asian corn...hahahah

  • thanks great 5 stars from me just planted about 20 corn seeds today i hope they grow i live in Aus so would it grow here or not

  • how long does corn take to grow

  • My corn normally takes 12-14 weeks to mature.

  • lol this is so funny i love it!

  • hell ya corn is awesome!!!

  • What I did this year after the plants were about 2 feet tall I scraped and mounded up the soil around the base of each stalk about 6 inches or so high. This made the stalks really study in the wind and they put out tons of new roots from the stalk into the mounds. I interplanted with beans too but next year I need to plant the beans a lot sooner lol....

Corn is a hungry plant and it needs lots of nitrogen, it's basically oversized grass!

  • I also have problems with rats or other rodents, they not only eat my corn but pumpkins, egg plant and even strawberries! I need to install one or more of my brothers electric scare crows (and then post a vid)!

  • I grew a proud crop this season already and couldn't figure what pest was destroying my corn within days. Finally figured out it was rats...yuck. The war only took a few battles but I won.

I've got a long growing season here so I'm trying another crop, short season variety.

  • i am groowing corn too...will post it next week...along with the rest of my crops right now...and the mix of soil i think is not ideal...too much lime/sand, and think a little more clay soil would have been better...but I am getting at least two cobs...it is more of a medium size result...not great...ok...one learns.

  • Why is your corn so teeeny?

  • what kind of corn is that?the corn i grow gets 6 feet tall 2 meters, and have 5 cobs on them, why are yours so small?

  • Its pigmy corn...for little pigmy type people with pigmy type appetites.

  • ha ha ha...

  • That is some poor looking corn sorry to say. It's puiny ,skinny and the leaves are yellowing. Looks like you really need more fertilizer like a chicken manure my friend.

  • I've got a question, this is my first time growing corn but I live in Illinois where there is a bunch of it. Anyway it is a pretty mild climate and weird weather. People tell me the danger of frost and it doesn't get into the 80s constantly until may. Should I wait to plant? Also I picked up a couple of varieties, one is a Honey and Cream sweet corn and the other kind is A hybrid called the Ruby Queen Hybrid, and it says its the first sweet red corn, any suggestions on maitence?

  • Considering that you live in Illinois, where it gets very cold in the winter, you should definitely wait until after the last frost. Corn needs a little warmer weather than what is offered after the last frost.

Well, just wait until the weather is reasonable for you: when it's comfortable outside.

When corn is planted when the weather is mild, or more cold than warm, it still grows. It grows slowly but steady. But once it becomes warm, it takes off.

So, in milder weather, expect a longer wait.

  • cool vid.starting my crop very soon & this helped a lot.cheers

  • Glad to hear it gave you some ideas, good luck with your corn crop.

  • Ohh, corn is my favorite. I grew some for the first time last summer and it was amazing. So yummy it should have been candy.

I have a short season here, there's no way I could get more than one crop. We have a saying here about corn-- that if it is healthy and growing well it should be "Knee high by the 4th of July." I actually measured my corn to make sure it came to my knee in early July. It did, of course... :-) Good stuff!

  • Here in Kentucky (USA), we only get one crop per season as we're in a temperate zone. Perhaps a short season variety might yield two crops. I never thought of it before. Can't wait for that vid of the rodent scaring device!
