  • and this is how we used to edit.... 20 years ago. Now, a select few get to transfer those reels off to a disk. And that's all. Hundreds of thousands were spent on this technology. I wonder if any youtubers could tell me they remember Dynamic Tracking, and what it means!

  • @mistertentpole I used to edit video tape by cutting it! Thats how editing was done back in the early 60's there was no time code, just a good eye, quick fingers, and a magic marker :)

  • @mistertentpole Yep, I remember DT or Dynamic Tracking. It's where the video playbck head is mounted on a piece of piezo crystal connected to a servo circuit. This servo circuit detects the amount of RF energy from the playback head and causes the piezo crystal to bend slightly back and forth when the RF falls below a pre-deteremined level. The result is that the playback head is maintained at an optimal position along the centre of the video tracks.

    It also allows variable speed playback.
