I had ATF and USNF before. After both CDs were trashed in an accident I bought Fighters Anthology as a replacement.
I remember downloading Lib files to make non-playable aircraft behave more realistically in game. Which leads to one of my gripes about Jane's back then- their knowledge on armed development outside of North American and European continents was very lacking.
Anyway, for playable aircraft it was pretty intense. I learned to love the F-14, X-31, and AC-130 thanks to those games.
WOW! does this bring back memories or what! This and Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator were some of the first games I ever played as a kid, my dad had the joystick and everything.
This was an incredible game. I miss the depth this had, the manual is like a book, I still have it. haha you know how old this is when they show Corsair II's taking off from the carrier!
@PowerMailDoomguy nope. to be more specific, the bundle was in a medium sized rectangular box, the boxart had an aircraft carrier and some other games art(but the carrier was bigger and in the epicenter of the box art) and the games were of different theme and setting(i cant remember since none worked in my pc at the time) there had to be some arcade games. i remember one cd's art, it had some sort of a hero on a jetpack carrying a girl with his one hand and shooting baddies with the other.
Okay listen in my opinion These games were the games that whould teach kids some skills I still think the games now like Modern Warefare or Battlefeild bad company are cool but atleat bring this back so our kids could learn somthing that can be used in life I LOVE PLANES and HELICOPTERS!!!! I just hope they bring it back... : ) P.S: Anyone know how to make this game work on Windowss XP.
@VO9BuckSMan48 Technically yes effectivially no. You would just install it like normal and apply the patch. But modern processors are so fast that even running them on slow and max graphics, night or fog fights are madness. (gauges blur so bad you can't read them)
Press CTRL + ALT in the quick mission screen before select a plane, and you´ll be able to fly any plane in the game including F-15, TU-160, Mig-29 and so along.
This game was my fav back in the 90s. These cames are way better than the games back then. They were more fun as a game than just as a product to be sold.
I played it every in the time i was 6 or 7 and I loved it, it was my first cimputergame and my father buyed it for me!! one of the best games for all times^^
Whoa... this was the best game I ever had. Sadly it started quitting itself every time I tried to play it after a while, otherwise I might still be playing it. But in my version of the game, a trumpet song followed after this intro. Wonder if I could find it on youtube...
This brings back memories. I loved this game. I later upgraded to Jane's Fighters Anthology which included this game. I still have it but I dunno if it'll run on modern tech. I used to play with a friend. He'd control the joystick and I'd be his "RIO" controlling the keyboard, because let's be honest: The keyboard had many commands that are difficult for an amateur to understand immediately. He'd fly the plane and fire ammo. I'd do everything else. LOL!
Wonder why they don't make good games like this anymore.. all of the air combat games are 'arcade' like, this one here was far more realistic.. bring back the good games!!
I just loaded it up on my new vista machine...it runs pretty well. The real fun was that my Brother in Law and I would do a direct long distance telephone connection and dogfight each other..great times, but the long distance bills back in '97 were a bit more than they are now!
I was 25 when purchased this game, and played it at least two hours a day, for years. My wife use to say: "hey, are you having it with this toy ??? How about me ?"
I've been searching since forever for the copyright holders to that piece of music. Anyone have any ideas? Bingham Entertainment is listed as the reference video production, but from what I gather they are long gone.
Now that I look back at that game, I relize that it is out of date but still kind of cool. Jane's would make a ton selling semi-realistic games for newer gaming systems. Too bad Jane's shut down.
Sometimes this game is fun but other times it's like "Oh look. Here comes some Migs. Fire the sidewinders. Shoot the cannons. Well look they're all down. Time to do another mission." See what I mean. It's fun to take out every six months but in my opinian. Everything beyond that gets boring.

Bring the graphics up to date, make it playable with a console controller, it would be an instant hit.

Sorry, but that's the best I've got. We got Anthology and the Navy pack, but that's it. It might've been '94, but I'm not the guy to ask.

wasnt this game part of an old game bundle or was it the previous one? can anyone confirm??????
routhoula 1 year ago
@routhoula The game was included in Janes Fighters Anthology, if that's what you're asking.
PowerMailDoomguy 1 year ago
@PowerMailDoomguy no, no, no. usnf was the only game of its type in the bundle
routhoula 1 year ago
@routhoula I got one that was USNF, 688(i) (Submarine game) and Fleet Command. Maybe?

pitot1988 3 years ago
I think so, an AV-8B or Sea Harrier I think, I'm not sure if this game allowed you to use its VTOL abilities though, in ATF and FA you could.
CyDaSnake 3 years ago
Yes, there were both the AV-8B and Sea Harrier, with VTOL capability.

That was US Marine Fighters, which was an addon to this.
