  • I decided to show a relative this video. Of course, we're both Australian but while she wouldn't have seen these ads before, she (and me) still enjoy watching them. However, she was delighted in particular by the "Arrid" commercial, a product she used to use that isn't sold here anymore. (I wonder if the "baby fresh" variant was ever sold here?)

  • @MattTheSaiyan I haven't seen it, but they still sell Arrid here. It comes in either Extra Dry or Extra Extra Dry!

  • On an unrelated note: Considering how popular there were, Video games don't seem to appear in many 1980s sitcoms or dramas. Mind you, I've also seen various 1950s TV series where the characters don't seem to own a TV set, which amuses me to say the least.

  • @Idoljunky32 I used to adore "American Bandstand", but I do like the theme song "Bandstand Boogie" by Les Elgart, one of the best that ever made. It came from an LP called "Band of the Year".

  • There was also Stevie Wonder in a TDK ad, classic. I have several of my TDK cassettes and it sounds great, the one I used to have is an AD series cassette from 1982, like the one in a commercial. I have the following TDK cassettes including the D and SA series tapes.

  • The boy in the Bubblicious ad is Raphael Sbarge.

  • ABC would soon learn that, while Joanie may love Chachi, America didn't.

Barney Miller and Hill Street Blues would be the big winners at the 1982 Emmys.

No matter how many bikini girls Hawaiian Punch puts in its ads, I'll never think they're anything but a kids drink.

So they ghosts actually work for another villian? What exactly does Pac-Man have that the guy with the cape wants so much? Power pellets?

The new Oldsmobiles are in early this year!

  • The black guy in the 7Up commercial was the guy that adored Strange (Grace Jones) in Boomerang! LOL 'Birth! Birth! *kiss*' xD

  • Ahhh, the 80's.......a great decade compared to the barbaric, dangerous times we live in now.

  • @blackandgold978 It's sad really.

  • Awesome start with the "Come On Along With ABC" promo, I loved ABC's slogan and music from the 1982-1983 season, and Ernie Anderson!

The Burger King OH YEEAH guy, does he not look and sound like the late Redd Foxx? HANG ON BURGER KING IMA COMIN

I also miss the old CARTOON PREVIEW SPECIALS, which were HUGE in the 80s, and ABC's were the best.

The Pac Man cartoon would inspire the 1984 arcade follow-up, "Pac-Land".

Finally, those "AB" folks were sure ENJOYING the Dick Clark brainwashing!

  • One of the things I remember as a 3 year old is that I used to have nightmares about that 7up guy.

  • I believe, I'm NOT sure, that the blue shirted guy in the bubblicious commercial is actor Raphael Sbarge. He was in the 1983 Tom Cruise movie Risky Business in a small role as one of Joel's college friends.

  • i wish i could remember the name of that guy with the 7up. he looks and sounds so familiar.

  • @slydawg221 Why not take, like, 10 seconds of your time to read the video description?

  • 1. i just wasn't thinking about it and 2. most people don't put nearly as much thought or detail into the descriptions of their videos as you do.

  • Commercials 1-6 scared the crap out of me... That BK lady was CREEPY! I absolutely loved the Hawaiian Punch ad and i thought the 7-up add was sooo funny. Of Couse yah do!

  • @randileaN3 thank GOD I wasn't the only person who thought that BK lady was possessed! Commercials 1-6, I thought the Neon Nights album commercial, wonder if I can get it now!

  • "Neon Nights" is an epic win. So are those Burger King uniforms

    what's "rotoscope"?

They just don't make commercials like "Agree" anymore. Awesome.

"breath mints lead to casual sex" LOL

this was a GREAT volume. clever ads and defunct products make for some good chuckles

  • Rotoscoped animation is when live action footage is traced over.

  • Man, where can I get the Neon Lights album? I knew every song!

And I've always meant to ask this, does anyone know who did the voice for all of abc's primetime promos? His voice has always been epic. If you don't know who I'm talking about, listen to the Blues Brothers promo at the end of this.

  • The ABC announcer is Ernie Anderson...the most amazing announcer ever.

  • In the certs commercial....OMG she soooooo planned that.

  • What the heck is Retsyn (sp?) in teh Certs?

  • TDK was always the best. and I remember those Certs commercials

  • That Stevie Wonder commercial. Total 80s that's all I have to say ...

  • This one if the shit one of the better you have uploaded some of this could almost pass for vintage 70s

  • the early 80's were much like the 70's , partially why i dont miss the early 80's.

  • wow what a wierd commercial for hawaiian punch I never knew it was meant to be enjoyed by adults living a care free lifestyle on the beach lol .

  • As an obsessed PAC-MAN fan as a little child, I was totally overjoyed when the cartoon came out, and thought it was the greatest thing in the world.........EVER! :-)

  • "Also, what the hell is that crazy computer noise when the vapors rise out of it?"

See, the vapors are actually clouds of nanobots and the set mics were picking up their transmissions. What? It's as good an explanation as any.

Incidentally, the sound is either the same one or very similar to the one used in the Gene Wilder "Willy Wonka" when "Wonkavision" is being demonstrated.

  • God I miss the '80s

  • 1:33, it's Copyright N.A.T.A.S. SATAN backwards. Very weird...

  • @TR47 National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences

  • @TR47 Not that Satan doesn't have anything to do with it. But in case you wanted to know.

  • This is a very good collection. Raspberry was the best Bubblicous, I dont think you can get it anymore.

  • Excellent set of commercials here.

  • Buddy, this has got to be one of my favorite sets you've posted. I use to love all of those Bubblicious ads. I love that Hawaiian Punch commercial as well. Who wouldn't want to go sail away after seeing this or hearing that jingle...LOL. I also loved watching American Bandstand back then. I seem to recall the headband guy at 7:44. He was a frequent dancer on the show.

  • No Punchy in the Hawaiian Punch commercial? WTH???

I used to watch Ripley's Believe It Or Not with my dad when I was 3 or 4. Talk about nightmare fuel...holy crap!

  • whed they add punchy? i thought he was a product of the 80's...but no longer used now, sad.

  • Punchy's been around since 1962. This ad looks like it was designed to appeal to a young adult market...so instead of punchy...there are girls in bikinis on sailboats.

  • @80sCommercialVault Let alone having Punchy socking Oaf as usual.

  • Wow! That bubblicious commercial really was a flashback! Loved that one as a kid, and the PacMan Cartoon, loved it! American Bandstand was my favorite growing up. Thanks for posting this great video!!

  • i will ALWAYS love 80s and 70s commercials. commercials today are all about being silly and making people laugh. no imagination.

  • Who sings the Agree commercial?

  • As unsettling as the ghost-eating in that Pac Man cartoon is, it isn't as nightmarish/awesome as that T-shirt of Pac Man as a real person. I wish pictures could be linked to on youtube....

  • These commercials aired ONE day before my 10th birthday.........

  • LOL! I use to watch Joanie Loves Chachi!

  • 7:46, Piston Honda?

  • Lol there was a Pac-Man cartoon? Wish I was around for that..

  • @grimdarkcold Yeah, it's pretty good. There's a lot of episodes uploaded on Youtube.

  • I love 7up

  • That was back when Halls came in donut flavor.

  • Yeah, what was up with that crazy computer noise when the vapors were rising out of the Halls drop?

And the Pac Man cartoon FTW!

  • Burger King's burgers look more smaller compared to todays BK burgers. 00:23

Holy crap! I forgot about Certs. Love them as a kid. 3:26

  • @Itzpower Explains all the fatter people

  • Re 2:56. Cassettes are probably the only thing from the 80s I DON"T miss. Can't count the number of recordings that got chewed up lol. And I hated rewinding over and over again when I wanted to wear something out. Good riddance I say! 8)
