  • y not a keyboard & drum pad controller coupled w/ ableton live

this is dope but sooo impractical

  • It's a good question. 1st off, check out my Loop-Lab video, we're playing live and midi instruments with controllers and a drum pad and looping them.

BUT...the real advantage here is gaining the "spatial" relationship between the cubes. In other words, how close the various cubes are to each other on the reactable actually affects the sound. This does generates MIDI messages, like a controller, but now we can generate new messages based on the location and distance between the cubes.

  • Hello canton1818, could you share your source code plz.

  • yeh, i seen this table in future music mag....looks super cool..!!

  • How did you build it? Are there any online guides/advice? Thanks.

  • There is one main resource, and there are links to forums, related projects, and other info from their site:

    mtg . upf . edu/reactable/

To be honest....there isn't one comprehensive guide or "how to" to help someone build one of these. You have to figure a lot out as you go along.....

  • excellent, I figured out the ableton hookup a long time ago, but without a decent camera, my project was put on hold. Excellent implementation here in your vid, nice job

  • Thanks for the kind words! We will be advancing the video feedback piece next week pretty heavily. I'll post more as there is more to show.

Also, I'm not using the MIDI implementation in Reactivision as you lose the TUIO / OSC messages when you do. I had to write the midi translator to make the connection.
