In Thailand, yes, but they are in Japan. In Japan, China, or Korea, no one "prays" at you. That is soooo stereotypical. Like a cartoon from the 50s or something. You only pray to Gods, so this type of praying and bowing is really wrong for their situation. You're not even Asian, so how would you know? You wouldn't clasp your hands and pray in Australia, would you? So why do that in Japan?
@gogoutube I know this is a necrobump but I can't help but read some of your comments and I would just like to say that you're right, no one "prays" at you, it's a custom that Japan didn't shake when they were westernised, even now one would bow as a greeting or when saying goodbye or thanks just as western cultures did a long time ago. It holds the same weight as a handshake or a wave would have in our culture and is done just as natural.
I know this because I have studied Japan for many years.
