  • I love the new Enterprise.

  • U.S.S. Kelvin: Mortal Rival with the U.S.S. Celcius :/

  • @commander672 Hey, you forgot the U.S.S. Fahrenheit! :)

  • Kirk hails the USS Kelvin. Kirk's Dad appears onscreen. Another alternate universe is formed as an alterantive to the alternative univarse that JJ Abrams made.

  • Sweet Jesus!

  • loved it. a real enjoyment and great to watch.excellent work.

  • will there be more videos?

  • Am I the only one to notice that the Enterprise didn't use its phasers? And why dose the Kelvin have such a large blind spot? Design errors aside, not a bad bit of work.

  • @aeromaxout - No, you are not the first one. The E doesn´t use its phasers because this was done way before the movie was out and I did not know how the phasers would look, so I choose to not show them.

  • Those Fighters look like miniture Son'a ships.

  • Why do big starship always fly through an asteroid field? Didn't they watch the Empire Strikes Back?

  • Nice and promising beginning. Stupid battle scene, ripped of arrival of Enterprise, nonsense torpedo shooing and small and agile targets, nonsense warping out of asteroid field and looks like a mission in a game. Didn't like it.

  • Historically freedom is a new arrival in this world and it can only be protected by eternal vigilance. Whenever threatened it can only be defended with violence, because evil cannot be rehabilitated... It's a pity.

  • This is better than the visuals in the actual movie. LOVE, Love, LOVE IT!

  • It's a pity that so many fan videos are emphasising violence.

  • @starsiegeplayer

Star Trek needs some action sometimes.

  • The music is kinda annoying, and the new Enterprise is still ugly as hell, but other than that, it's excellent.

  • @JarodRussell

The new enterprise is NOT ugly.

  • @piplupsingularity Yeah it is.

  • @JarodRussell

    It's sleek as ever.

  • @piplupsingularity It's pretty ugly. The classic one would do just fine. Thank JJ for making a horrid movie.

  • Love it!

  • nice

  • brilliant animation!

  • The weapons of the Kelvin are controlled by a rig in Maya that fires particles (which are actually geometry in the shape of a shot) automatically.

  • How do you create the pulse weapons, etc?

  • @ToushiroHitsugaya1

As you´ve mentioned, the model for the Kelvin is available, but at the moment I do not have plans to release the Enterprise as well.

  • I dunno if this'll get answered. Probably not. But will you be releasing these online? I know I've seen the Kelvin SOMEWHERE, but what about the Enterprise?

  • The Abrams Prise is an ugly beastie.

    Long Live the Kelvin.

  • Great Animation!!! was it hard to make though???

  • i just dont know what some people have against the new star trek it's a new timeline my view is that creating a new timeline is better than a rehash of the other timeline things that happend in the prime universe will not happen in this timeline and that gives jj and his team freedom to create the fans who dont like it are only a paltry ammount

  • can't you all take off your rose-colored nostalgia glasses?

the new enterprise looks awesome, imo, especially the warp nacelles

  • "Damage to decks 4 through 7. Armor is failing in forward section! Life Support is beginning to fail."

    "Dammit!"

"Wait....Sir, there's another ship coming in."

    "More Klingons???"

    "No sir. It's......the ENTERPRISE!!"

  • Absolutely breathtaking work. A job EXTREMELY well done.

  • I just noticed that the Klingon and Federation weapons switched. Usually, it's the Federation phasers that are a beam, and the Klingon weapon (I forget what it's called) that's a lot of small bolts, isn't it?

  • @Pikatroid42 While that's technically true, these are older starships. Phase Cannons (The federation equivilent of Disruptor Cannons) were on board ships since the NX Class. And while the NX-01 was quickly outfitted with Phaser Banks along with the rest of the NX fleet, Starfleet rapidly found that they were harder to produce, and thefore phased them out later in favor of the cheaper Phase Cannons. That is until they found a way to make phaser banks more cheaply and quickly.

  • @ToushiroHitsugaya1 But that doesn't explain why the Klingons don't have disruptors. Also, the USS Kelvin is a NCC ship, not NX. It was used until 2233 (it is at this point that the timeline probably split), and the NX-01 was used until 2161. Shouldn't they have Phasers by now?

  • @Pikatroid42 As far as Klingons and the lack of disruptors, I think they've always had phasers to begin with. The thing about Klingon disruptors was during that time they were only comparable to the Starfleet phase cannons, and judging by the way those ships looked, they were more likely to be Klingon pirates, so them having phasers meant theft from Starfleet. Especially since the blasts were red, not green.

  • The new Enterprise design would have been better if they kept the old nacelles from TOS and just updated them to look futuristic.

  • The J.J. Failprise and the Kelvin are ugly ships, but in this video the look 10 times better than they looked in the movie. The lighting, and texturing are much better.

  • FedCon could do so well in the 02 arena on London :)

  • That was pretty cool. The "Uglyprise"... I'll have to remember that one. It doesn't do it for me either, but it's alright...

  • I like it, Its just a cool vid...

  • I have to agree, that new ship doesn't do it for me nor does it do the original ship any justice.

  • I thought they were Klingon fighters. I don't particularly like the uglyprise but the video is cool.

  • ...that is ...amazing ...it's what things should have looked like, ...yeah, that's right, i said it ....sigh

  • The appearence of the enterprise in this movie is so beautiful!!!

  • Top class......excellent stuff!!

  • ha ha, 4:22 reminds me of the Ent A and Excelsior final shot tuc, another case of passing the torch,

  • That was beautiful ! ! !

  • I wish stuff like this happened in the movie. :(

  • @phongbong The new movie is set in an alternate reality. The makers of the film wants to make a trilogy, so maybe, just maybe, it will someday :)

  • First saw this on the LightWorks site, glad I stumbled upon it on YouTube too! Absolutely fantastic video!

  • Were those Romulan ships attacking the Kelvin?

  • No, Tobias designed them himself.

  • look a lot like the sona ships from insurrection i like them tho love this vid awesome work 5/5

  • @Kodos1 even though they resemble son'a ships more than likely they are klingon as they are green with red highlights, besides starfleet hadn 't encountered the son'a until the khitomer accords as their original homeworld is located in the briar patch which is within klingon space

  • I like when the star trek theme plays

  • I also like the Kelvin and Enterprise flying side-by-side.

  • Brilliant animation. I have some problems with with mindless aliens attacking a ship they can barely create damage to on some sort of mass suicide missions. But this seems to be a common 'storyline' in sf these days...

  • this is making me want to watch Star Trek XI again....seen it twice already

  • Nice visual effects! Though I didn't find the New ENTERPRISE to be what i was hoping, i find it growing on me.

  • This is absolutely gorgeous.

  • Where can I download this in .mov format or in .wmv format. I would love to have a copy. This is the best I have seen. Are you sure you didn't work on the film. ILM should watch out. Parmount should hire you for the sequel if ILM is not up for it.

  • a tv show based on the kelvin would be cool

  • Bizarre movie! ID4+ Armagedom = fast and furious in the space. I remembered Flash Gordon.

  • Comment removed

  • why does the enterprise onyl shoot torpedos she has turrets to O_O

  • well she has phasers, and powerful ones too able to zap maybe 2-3 ships at a time

  • the enterprise always has to save the kelvin`s butt , i like it

  • Why is the kevlin always the one to be in danger? haha

  • Oh man thoughs new shipdesigns are cool looking. More believable. I love great

  • I love the friggin visual effects and of corse the film. 5/5 or even 100/100 (Y)

  • Has anyone else noticed that while the Enterprise uses the movie lettering, the Kelvin uses the lettering from the original series?

  • very well done!

  • this is really good. though u could've probably used some of the movie music for this.

  • i know a lot of people hate the redesigned enterprise but i love it. i almost cried when i saw how great the ship looked in the movie. beautiful shots here, great action. movie worthy material. can anyone say Star Trek XII? lol

  • i feel exactly the same!

  • I agree!!

    The movie was great!!!

And think: It´s an ALTERNATE STORY!!!

    Just this... But beautifull!!!

AND THE CARACTERIZATION!!! AMAZING!! Great actors, great visual effects.. I almost cried in the first 15 minutes of movie.

    But, this?? IT´S BETTER!!!

    Awesomeeee!!!!

    Greatings from ARGENTINA!!!

  • What Program did you use to make the lasers? It's the best 3D Animation i have ever seen. i cant even call it a animation. it's more like a movie or a trailer.

  • I loved the new Star Trek movie and characterizations of classic trek. This animation has all the beauty shots any fan could ask for... way more than the actual movie had. You rock!

  • The Kelvin is an impressive ship. Its design is very similar to the the star fleet Akula class of the TMP era.

  • Hehe Tobias Richter I remember him from the amiga days. Always one step ahead with grx.

  • Damn. Movie-worthy!

  • That was nothing but pure awesomeness! too bad the two ships never met.

  • Couldn't they have met in the prime timeline?

  • Maybe, i wouldnt doubt it. Possibilities are endless in Star trek. ^_^

  • Very impressive work!

    I love your material setup.

    From scifi-meshes, I know you're using Maya.

May I ask which other software was involved in the process?

  • Pretty much the usual stuff - Photoshop for texturing, Digital Fusion for compositing, Premiere for editing - oh and Mudbox for the asteroids.

  • i feel sorry for the kelvin. its so cool looking. it looks way more durable in battle than the enterprise.

  • Outstanding Video! HD never looked better.

  • Thanks - the visuals were done by just one person in around 4 months time (including modelling the two ships). And of course Hetoreyn doing the music.

  • This is simply amazing, the way you've modeled and animated this BEFORE the release of the movie is simply jawdropping. It almost looks as good as the actuall thing, or at least it does is damn good justice. May i ask you, how long did the enire process take, from idea to final render? How many people worked on this?

  • Awesome, but needs some work on the torpedoes AND GET THE ST9 Primary phasers in there!

  • super arbeit! ich geh mal davon aus das du das hauptberuflich machst?

  • nice job

  • Loved this so much. I have really grown to love the new Enterprise, and the Kelvin is sick!!! I love the renewed look of Star Trek. The sequel can get here soon enough!!

  • Exzellente Animation!

Das fragt man sich wirklich, warum deutsche Kinofilme meist derart grottige Effekte, wenn es doch so talentierte Künstler gibt, die man engagieren könnte.

  • Really brilliant.

One quibble, not even worth mentioning - Starfleet ships, like US Navy ships, have the name on the back, not the serial number. I don't know if the people responsible for the new movie are aware of that.

  • Brilliant as usual! I wish the Germans had the courage to do a nice scifi series - with The Light Works as the company responsible for the CGIs :)

I was soooo surprised to see this animation at the opening ceremony. Not to mention that this was a stunning opener for FedCon 18 - only to be followed by the 28 minutes from the actual movie that was shown to us exclusively :)

  • Brilliant work. Each frame of this video qualifies for the term "beauty shot"

  • Is there a HD version of this for download anywhere?

  • Brilliant!!!

It was amazing to see this Intro for the FedCon on the big screen last Friday!

    Absolutely perfect!!

  • Brilliant work, Tobias!

    -- "animator" of SFM.

  • Totally awesome. Do You imagine a game with this kind of gfx ?

  • Magnifique !

  • You are the MASTER.

I expect that the movie picture has similar quality.

  • Great job!!! Wow the kelvin looks like it was assembled by a blind man. Does the Kelvin not have shields?

  • Its supposed to be a earlier era sterfleet vessel that relied on armor insted of shields... :P i think...

  • fantastic! : stands and applauds :

  • Mind-blowing! Fantastic work!!

  • Hochachtunge Tobias!

    Bist ein riesen Künstler.

Bei solchen Leistungen solltest du in Hollywood Arbeiten.

  • Absolutely Majestic!

    Your parents must be proud!!!!!!!!

  • Absolutely fantastic indeed! :)

  • Awesome movie, I especially like the warp effects of the Enterprise and the ships at the end.

My God that Kelvin is an Ugly ship though. I keep thinking they designed it upside down. Nothing against the creator of this movie though, that's not your fault!

  • That was absolutely awesome, i've been following the build of both ships since you started working on them, fantastic work!

  • Unbelievable work, Tobias! That was very enjoyable. Did you get to do any post work for the movie? This clearly proves they should have hired you. :-)

  • Great!!!

Bin heute mittag von der FedCon zurückgekommen und mir kommen die Tränen wenn ich das sehe! *heul*

    Bring me back to Bonn!!

    Tobias: Thank you!!!!

  • Son'a ships?

  • No, just some alien ships I have in my library for quite some years.

  • Sure, they just remind me of Son'a design.

  • JUst realised...

does the last scene remind you of the undiscovered country at al

    Tobias mate that was epic

  • USS Kevin looks pretty.

  • Where is the Enterprise phasers like in the trailer? In the movie her torpedos are blue. This is not canon.

  • This has been made before the the movie came out... and i think the torpedoes look good, great job mr. Richter 5/5

  • That was too sexy for words.
