I hate Intel and Microsoft! When Negroponte approached them to partner him in the OLPC project they refused, and now they wanna profit from the idea...fucking hipocrites!
They are trying to get Windows XP on both the Intel Classmate and the OLPC XO, as both can have the factory-installed Linux OS replaced after they are sold to governments. A deal has been struck to reformat Nigerian Classmates with Windows XP, but the XO version of Windows has the problem of drivers and its sheer size.
it shows too obviously Intel's agenda for it's own purposes and benefits. surely it won't be as open as OLPC where many parties including those who will be targeted by OLPC initiative are involved from early on in developing the platform as well as the infrastructure architecture.
here, we have big buck hegemons all over again. showing their seeds to harvested later on.
can a child keep that laptop to take it at home? Is the cost going to be that low? Or is it going to be a machine for children to use only when in school?
If it's the latter then this laptop has nothing to do with OLPC. It is for the teacher and a few pupils, not for the children... and in my view it is the wrong way to go.
its a good thing but the machine does not look as ruged as the OLPC machine open USB ports for dust to spoil them on the side the more compititioin the better so keep on trying
This video mentions a Nigerian classroom, but Nigeria is ordering one million "One Laptop Per Child" machines running 99% free and open source (no Windows) on AMD Geode (no Intel). Screw you Intel!
Intel did do their testing in Nigeria as well. At about the same time OLPC was implementing programs over there. They are definitely trying to compete with OLPC and steal away business from a non-profit association for their profit.

Seconded. I would have written my thesis paper on this very topic if only there was more information available at the time...
