  • Picked up a 4.5 HP Craftsman Tecumseh. Took me ten minutes to figure out the "bolt" or main jet that holds the float bowl on had a hole straight through the middle of it. Must have pushed too hard when I cleaned all the gunk out...Looked like it was actually designed to have a hole straight though the middle for cleaning...got that re-sealed with a stem of a q-tip and ran like a top. Had to "MacGyver" it til I can get a new bolt. Excellent video. Looks like it helped a lot of folks.

  • God bless you brother I was planning to get rid of my mower after many searchs I ended up here thanks to your video my mower runs brand new!! GOD BLESS!!

  • My Craftsman mower has been hard to start for a long time, and when it does start, it sputters a lot. I'm going to go try this now. Thanks!

  • Thank you very much for the clear instruction. I have a Craftsman 6.0 with B&S engine which quit on me almost 2 years ago. Even though the carb is a little different, I was able to follow your instructions on removing the gas tank and the bowl. The jet was indeed clogged and the bowl showed some water. I blasted the carb and the lines just like you did with carb cleaner and soaked the jet in the same. After I put everything back, I was able to start the engine with just one pull. Thanks.

  • Thank you for the video, took about 15min and now my lawnmower works again. You rock!

  • thanks much, saved my Sunday afternoon! Cheers!

  • thanks, i have a craftsmans 6 hp lawnmower where the engine is the same maker as yours. i am experiencing hard starting and it when it starts it will only run for a few seconds. Takes a while to get it to the point where it wont do this and eventually it will start and run continuous. I'll try what you did and see if that will fix the problem

  • Hi Turbo231

Great video! I cleaned the carberator, however after I started it up it ran full throttle! It seems that the governor arm is not pushing back on the throttle assembly to slow the engine speed down. The assembly and spring is all reconnected as before. How does this governor arm work? is there something inside the crankcase that may have got disconnected? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • @MarleneKrueger You are in luck, look for a governor/carburetor video tomorrow, showing the relationship between it and the carb. Will be on a very similar machine.

  • @Turbo231 Thank you! I can't wait to see the video tomorrow. My neighbors will be happy to see a weed free lawn!

  • Fantastic Video for a DIY'er like myself. Thanks!

  • thats it i thougth a carb would be more small pieces to loosen up

  • THANK YOU!! This is possibly the BEST HOW TO VIDEO I have ever seen on You Tube! Mechanical issues are not the easiest thing to describe, yet guys seem to have a tough time communicating them, which does not help -- you are a HUGE EXCEPTION! Bravo - you've helped me more than you know. PLEASE CONTINUE ADDING YOUR VIDEOS! Excellent camera quality as well.

  • videos like this make the internet worthwhile!! thanks for posting.

  • Thank you very much, I did as instructed, added fresh gas and OH, A good prayer before I pulled the cord...........It worked !!! Have to give the praise to God, as I am far from a Mr. FIx it. It seems like it wants to stall however, but I managed to cut the front lawn so far. thanks again....

  • thanks for the great video! It helped me get my machine working again! Saved me $100 service call.

  • my riding mower wont start ive had it for 3 years never had a problem alway changed every yhink on it for the summer but i wased it the other night and i got it stated today but it die like 10 seconds later do u think there is water in the bowl

  • @Superthecod Good chance...can't hurt to look.

  • This video helped us clean our carburetor, and our mower that wasn't starting at all is now running great. You saved us 50 bucks at the mower repair place, and let us feel mechanically competent. Thanks.

  • Thanks for the great video. My rickety old Craftsman Eager 1 was having trouble starting last year. Now my whole body is sore from trying to get it to stay running yesterday. After deciding I was too tired to do anything else except spend some hours researching lawnmower fixes on the net, this video showed the least amount of work needed for me to cut the lawn. The best part is it only cost me $4 for a can of carb cleaner and that was all. Thanks!!!

  • Hi I got an older lawn mower (without the whole primer bulb etc) but somebody told me a need to clean my carb....but I don't see it anywhere...tips?

  • Really good video.

  • Thanks man, the video helped me get the same bulb off of a very similar engine of the same brand, nice video, very informative, best one of its kind definatly, hope you make lots of videos like this

  • Thanks man, the video helped me get the same bulb off of a very similar engine of the same brand, nice video, very informative, best one of its kind definatly

  • Thank you so much for the video. I was about to buy another lawnmower, but followed your video step by step and it runs now! Thanks, you saved me several hundred dollars for not having to buy another lawnmower! You are awesome!

  • You made another friend 8^).. so many leaves - so little time. Thank you for making the video.- ps - this is the same setup as my 6.75 craftsman.

  • Thanks for making this video! You did a great job! This kind of effort represents, to me, what's BEST about the internet!

  • hi - I watched this, hopefully it will help. My primer bulb is fine.....but when I push it gas leaks out somewhere.....not from the bulb but from the carburetor possibly. Any thoughts?

  • VERY good narration to your tutorial, good job!

  • I just wanted to say thank you very much. My lawnmower was giving me problems, and I had just about called it quits. This was perfectly informative, and hit the nail dead on. It works like a champ now!!

  • great vid..just told me how to check my primer that doesnt seem to work

  • Good video man, I just uploaded one about a similar mower, its a Craftsman 4.0, and it looks like the same carb arrangement, the mower just looks to be a newer model It should be in your vid response approval box check it out!

  • my lawnmower hasn't started in a few days. i took the air filter off thinking the engine could get a bit more air to the engine to give it a larger cumbustion to get it going. i tried starting it and realized it was slightly squirting out stuff where the air filter attatches. is that my problem? spark plug is clean?

  • @TheUFOeffect Not really. what you are getting is just fuel coming back from the primer. You might be having issues with that, but without a bit more information, it could be a lot of things. Best thing is to take off the spark plug and see if it's ok, maybe its wet from being flooded, very hard to say without more info.

  • @Turbo231: were taking it in to get if fixed. i put new oil, new gas, new spark plug, new air filter, and cleaned the carb. it still dosn't work.

  • @Turbo231: turns out the problem was that there wasn't a bag on it! its some sort of safety device that wont let it start. with no bag on it you were supposed to put in the thing that blocks the hole fromt he blade to the bag, that wasnt in there.

  • nice video

  • Very helpful! I was able to follow all the instructions and the mower started right up. Nice work!

  • Thanks for the video. I just had problems with my lawn mower with a Tecumseh engine not running properly. It's not getting enough gas - will only run if you keep pressing primer bulb. This video gives me what I need to dismantle and clean it.

  • 5 Stars!

I liked the primer replacement part of the video lol.

  • Oh no! Not another Teccy motor! The only thing I like about teccy push mower engines are the carb set ups, I like having a carb and seperate gas tank, rather than that on a briggs, but teccy carbs arent the best!

Doesnt run too bad though, I have a 6.5 Motor with a very similar carb, just had a choke isntead of a primer. Did actually run sorta decent.

  • @CSAKvids agreed! i like how the carb is easy to get to

  • nice video ! Thumbs up;)! ... what camera do you use ? Nice shots:)

  • @djbazzmaster I use a Cannon MiniDV ZR950. MiniDV tapes are a bit of a pain to use, but are awesome quality and a cheap RadioShack 4' tripod. I had been using iMovieHD for most of my middle videos, however with the death of my MAC, I'm using Windows Movie Maker with the windows XBOX 6.9MBit compression.
