The Kung Fu Panda guy was hilarious though. What's next? "I went to pour myself some cereal this morning and a box of cereal fell out of the cabinet and smacked me in the head. I think there was a message from God in there somewhere." Yet another effect of mixing scripture with human experience.

I just wanted to make a comment on the statement (you guys made for emphasis) that this "sermon" wasn't for kids, but adults, AS IF THIS SERMON WOULD HAVE BEEN ACCEPTABLE EVEN FOR CHILDREN! The children in our church are learning scripture, the 'Lord's prayer', the 'armor of God', 'apostles creed', children's version of the Westminster Shorter Catechism... and why did you guys continue to refer to him as a pastor--he defiles the office/calling; you guys were to kind.

I remember when I was in high school driving in a truck with a friend. We ended up getting in a small wreck but it was bad enough that he got a little bloody. My response and my friend's at the time? We laughed. Was it because it was funny? No. It was because it was such a serious situation and nervously that was our first reaction to it. I felt much the same way doing this episode. The "sermon" was a wreck.

Regardless of what Chris said, I don't think it makes that someone who has no seminary degree and yet is in ministry should criticize another person for being in ministry without credentials. If the criticism is that Joel Osteen has not shown himself approved to interpret the Scriptures, Chris should stick to that point.

I finally got to the critique of the sermon and could see what it was boiling down to - criticism and laughter at every sentence. This, in my view, is definitely not a loving or Christian approach to take toward a man that, whether you agree with everything he says or not, God has given a pastoral position and the authority that goes with it. Saul was by no means a perfect king. In fact, the Bible explicitly says God had rejected him and chosen David instead - yet David respected him.

Read Matthew 23 and let me know your critiques of Jesus's "loving approach." Read Galatians 2 where Paul withstood Peter to his face, and let me know of Paul's "loving approach" there as well. Please don't give us this nonsense. Your "loving approach" religion is far different than Christianity as it's defined in the Bible.

Also, how do you know that God has given him a pastoral position? Is it because he says so? Keep in mind that Jehovah Witnesses and Mormons also believe they've been given a pastoral position. What evidence do you have that you can share with the group that God gave this person a pastoral position other than he's claiming to be one and operating as such?

You first have to do the work of equating Paul Worth with JW and Mormonism before treating him as a cult.

In researching his "30-day sex challenge", I agree this guy is highly questionable since he called on singles to abstain from sex for 30 days - which implies it's okay after 30 days! But when you pick on him for every little word he says, you are forfeiting the larger and more important points you could have made. You come across as judgmental long before you come to any real heresy.

As far as pastoral qualification goes... CJ Mahaney does not have any college degrees however his teaching is solid. What about A.W. Tozer or Moody?

If you listen to this again, you'll see that Rosebrough does not say that a doctorate is required only that it is desired. There's a big difference there. He says that we need to prove that we can handle the Word of God correctly and a great way of this is being trained and proving ourselves through a seminary setting. He's not saying that unless you go to a seminary then you can preach the Word then and only then. (cont...)

In fact, if you listen at 13:00 , Chris Rosebrough says, "If someone has a seminary degree, it doesn't give them carte blanche authority... the question is "can they rightly divide the Word of truth?" That's the qualification.: If someone has the gift of teaching and if they can rightly divide the Word of truth?"

That's a "little" different than saying that a college degree is required.

These pastors might benefit from this type of rebuke rather than the over the top harsh ones you usually see. They might listen and think "Man, that was silly. Maybe I should just preach the word." We can only hope.

1:13:25 & following: Jewish boys during and prior to Jesus' time memorized what we know today as the Old Testament and actually DID purpose to become Rabbis. If they were good enough, a Rabbi would call them to follow and teach them until they became Rabbis themselves.
