Gary Bettman will burn in hell for destroying some of the greatest teams in hockey history. Just look into his eyes, completely soulless. Bring the Nordiques back!!
When all is said and done, the Montreal Canadiens have always had the hearts of Quebeckers, but Les Nordiques in many ways had the hearts of French Canada....
au contraire mon fraire. There are long time Canadiens fans throughout the Montreal area that aren't French...In Quebec City there was a time when the two biggest things there were the Catholic Church. and Les Nordiques...
Montreal=French Canada. with English population there that supported teh Canadiens...Quebec City 99.99% French...what don't YOU understand mrceebees? Montreal is bi-lingual...I can buy an English newspaper there, I can listen to English radio,...can I in QC? GO SPLASH SOME COLD WATER ON YOUR FACE AND WAKE UP!

Ofcourse you are going to have diversity in Montreal, it's the main city in Quebec. But if you knew your history you would know that the Canadiens are French Canada. Announcments are in French, they still have a hard-on for getting French Canadiens on the team. Most of the population is Catholic, where as Toronto are Protestant........like the English.
You don't need water spashed on your face, you need a book to read.
I live in Cali, but heck, I wish there was still a Quebec Nordiques team that I can be a fan of... I hope that Quebec City can once again have an NHL franchise.
Imagine how humiliating that was to watch your team win a cup its first year in another city, in a country that doesn't care about hockey.
Before anyone mentions Roy and how he would've never been a Nord coming from Montreal, spare me, that team was MUCH MORE then Roy. Those diehard hockey fans literally saw that team grow up in front of their eye's, which was put together with a ton of good draft picks.
the worst part is when you know in 1990 even after 15 defeats in a row they still drew 14500 fans per game, which was 94% of their max capacity, then you look at teams like Nashville or NYI which can't even fill up their building at 75% even during winning seasons.
I went to a Quebec Remparts game once. Sure, it's fun and the atmosphere in Le Colisée is great, but something is missing, it's not the same than when I watched Nords games on TV when I was kid
Btw, before they left in 1995 I'm sure they could have won that cup. They were so good that year, even if it was a strike-shortened season of 48 games. When playoffs started everyone knew the team would move, even the players. I don't think it was easy for those guys to concentrate on the games they had to play to eliminate the Rangers. Knowing that immediately after winning the cup they would be packing for Colorado in front of prbly the best fans in NHL
You don't know what you're talking about. The Nords needed a goalie. They had offense. They were much more than a goalie, true, but Roy was just what the doctor ordered. And this is coming from someone who still hates the Habs.
So it wasn't humiliating at all. The Avs win in 1996 was still a Nords win. That was OUR team.
Because there is NO WAY Montreal would've traded Patrick Roy to the Nordiques. Roy was traded to the Av's, not the Nords, and he was most certainly the final peice of the puzzle for the Av's to become Stanley Cup champions.
The Whalers had NO support, unlike the Nords and Jets. If you look at the attendance records for the Whalers you will see they were nearly at the bottom of the pile almost every year, they didn't support the Whale. The Nords and Jets lived and died with thier teams, they truly got fucked.

This sucks.

Montreal represented the French in Canada well before the Nords came around. The Quebec Ace's did even fill that role, so what are you talking about?
Montreal=French Canada.

correction, that was 15 games without victory in a row, not defeats, and it was 15000+ fans, not 14500

Maybe Qubec's goaltender would've done a good job. He was not a bad goalie at all.
