Ive failed twice now do I'm taking my instructor with me on my 3rd test so if I fail again (which I hope I don't) atleast my instructor can pin point exactly where I've gone wrong and try and make it better. Personally though, I fail because my nerves get the better of me and I start to forget things....I don't think an instructor can help that!! So what can I do! Just keep on failing. My last test I failed because I parked too fare than 2 cars lengths! I mean, this is a joke!
The standard of instructors in general is very poor in Ireland and UK. Most of them don't use their lights at daytime, don't t turn their wheels when stopped on a hill, my friend on a pre-test was given a failure as the instructor said he used the bus lane. If the instructor was paying more attention he would have noticed that the time was 10.04am and it's open to all traffic at 10.00am
Took me 3 times to pass, passed on the 29/10/2011. First 2 times had only me and examiner in the car and the third time had my instructor and passed. x Good luck peeps! x
I took my instructor with me for my 3rd an final attempt, reason for doing this is i felt the reason i got my major mistake on the second attempt wasn't a proper mistake and circusmtances were out of my control, Took the instructor for the first time and passed.. Think the testers are more careful about what they mark you down for if someone else is there
I do think that one of the things that most pupils and instructors do not realise is that Maybe a candidate failed on a particular subject but perhaps there was another subject/s that on the day the candidate got away with but it might be a reason to fail on another attempt. By having the instructor in the car he/she will be able to see the all performance and therefore be more accurate during the follow up lessons.
wish we could bring and observer with us on our road tests ..as long as it's someone we know and trust/learned with. i know soo many ppl/parents that wish they could go/have them go with them.
@FibrousAcquiescence not a question of babysitting but a way of observing the all performance and rectifying other subjects that could be a cause as to fail the next attempt...
Here in Germany it is normal for the instructor to be with you during the test, because it is his/her vehicle that you have been training in all the time and that you a fully familiar with. The instructor sits next to you, like they do all the time, and the inspector sits in the rear and is usually quietly observing and writing down your mistakes. That way, you're basically doing a normal driving lesson and if you're doing good, you'll be issued the driver's license as soon as the lesson ends.
I am hoping to start learning to drive in a few months when I am 17, but I think whether you feel it will benefit or not, it is always good to have the option. In my case though I would be much happier if they was in the back because as this video points out, anything can then be improved which wasn't previously done correctly.
I definitely think this should be at least an option.
W00P W00P PUT YA HANDZ IN THA AIRRR < I said that during my driving examination because it was on the radio, and I took my hands off the wheel and waved them around. All I was trying to do was provide a happy, enriched atmosphere, so that the examiner would feel more at ease, and I would too. For some reason he dueled me and stopped the car while grabbing the wheel to keep it straight, then said I've failed due to incompetence. I was just trying to have fun while driving =[
in my country you dont even go to the course(which you must =D) and then get a stupid exam (just drive the car 5 mins) and there you go you are a driver now. no wonder people die in car accidents
Help is here for learner drivers. Go to Facebook and look up 'I can't wait to pass my driving test' and you'll find a page with tips and advice, and discussion boards to chat to instructors and other learners. If you're on twitter you can also chat to @Liz_DSA for pointers to advice.
as someone has already said they could be lenient with you on errors without an instructor, but with one they would be forced to go by the book. you see, if an examiner has too many passes or too many fails their competance could be called into question. so most examiners try to keep their pass/fail rates within the average to avoid attention being drawn to them. some test centres actually give incentives to keep their pass/fail rates within the average.
@BurritoMagnifico All examiners are trained to carry out the test to the same standard. They do not have pass or fail quotas. So as long as you demonstrate the standard required you will pass your driving test.
@dsagov the just rubbish, the system is broken badly designed and needs to be fixed, the best thing that could happen is if test centers are franchised out. Private company's tend to do things alot better than the government.
@dsagov .... i had my test this morning and i have failed second time with same examiner, 1st time he claimed that i wasn't looking enough around while performing reverse around the corner( when actually HE DIDN'T even looked at me during the maneuver! how do i know that? because i was looking all around me at all times and obviously saw what he is doing!!!)=major mistake. Fail
@dsagov That's not true. I have a friend that works at the registry and she told me they def have a quota. The worst time to take your road test is at the end of the month because thats when they fail the most ppl to meet thier quota.
@BurritoMagnifico Lol don't be daft they cant have different rules for different candidates depending on how many other people they've passed or failed. It would undermine the whole test.
I have my test tomorrow morning at 820am! Rush hour wooo!! I get on well with my instructor so I think I'd find it off putting having him sat in the back. I can imagin i'd laugh while reversing having to turn round and look at him:'D
If that was the case the ADIs would not be reluctant to be the third party in the actual test day and many of them do.
Could you answer to another question, please?
I have failed my driving test twice and my current DI tells me that if on my upcoming test day I happen to have the same examiner, I can ask for a 'second opinion', i.e refuse to have my test with him/her and ask for another examiner to take the test. Is it true and will it not jeopardise my test?
Asking someone to observe you just seems like you think you're gonna fail before you start, you're only really going to benefit form them being there if you fail so it seems pretty stupid, plus I don't think my instructor really likes me xD
Solution? The DSA stop being so obtuse, they already charge profuse amounts for tests, just give a simple, concise explanation as to what the participant should have/should not have done.
i failed my theory 1st time then passed 2nd but i passed my practical 1st time without a 3rd person because i thought tht it could reduce you visibility from behind.
I passed my driving test today and I had my instructor sit in with me. Personally it helped me a lot. The person in the back can't talk to you but it's always nice to know you have a familiar face in the car with you, you know for a little bit of moral support. It's also good for when the test ends because your driving instructor can help you with any minor (or major) faults you made. Anyway, that's just my opinion and personal experience with it, best of luck to anyone taking their test :).
The thing about this is, although it is a good idea in some respects, it may also hinder your driving. This is because having 3 people in the car for your test instead of the normal 2 like in a driving lesson means that the way you work the pedals will be different; you will need to push on the accelerator harder once you've turned at a junction, for example, in order to reach the correct speed.
This is actually a really bad idea, not only are you changing the weight of the car, you're placing someone in the back to restrict your view during maneuvers.
I don't mind sitting in the back of a test if my pupil asks me to. It gives me a chance to see how they drive with someone else sitting in the front, to see the test routes first hand and how the examiners do their job
personely i would prefer to refuse , recently in my area a fellow instructors car was wrote off on test , the back of the car ended up behind the front seats .lucky the instructor wasnt there . i have 3 kids that could of potentially been me in that car , how do think my children and wife would feel if i got killed under those circumstances, but hey i would have been there to support my pupil
