  • SUPERLATIVE

  • when he starts playing the opening riff of "castles made of sand", it almost brought tears to my eyes. and then when stops and says, "it was 32 fuckin years ago, i can't remember it," that humbleness makes me fall just a little more in love. he is questionably the sexiest thing to happen to the art of guitar playing.

the chili fans miss you terribly, john. please come back.

  • I would give up all my possesions, including my guitar to see him live

  • @cameronbowe I got tickets to his sold out show at the roxy.

and then i cant quite hear him when the crowd starts cheering but its something along the lines of

"if you guys still want to hear me play ill stay up here i don't care" hope that answers you question =)

  • @glencollings Thank you so much! :)

  • he's an example of a musical legend that did'nt die from an overdose like the others did....

  • @uberbs Yes, and thank goodness he got off of that shit. I'm pretty sure this was around the time when he was using. I think it was the H, and I've heard something like he did Cocaine and Crack for a bit.

  • @FucklyDuckly a lot of guitarist do this. usually in different tunings or the same tuning in case of a broken string. It being the same guitar means he really loves ohw that guitar sounds.

  • i <3 john frusciante

  • thx for posting

  • a "pawn" is considered a powerless person, (example in chess), and the pope obviously is a much higher figure. So he means that that higher power is irrelevant when everything around you (your sea) is pawns.. understad? pretty crazy stuff John talks...

  • haha, i know how u feel, but yeah, its pretty amazing

  • the pope dont matter when the PAWN is your sea... is what you mean.. ;) but yes me too

i wish i was there for the whole thing

  • I love the way he smiles

  • Comment removed

  • that's not hendrix anyways, in Purple Haze Hendrix hits a C on the E string than goes to a C on the D strings, it's an octave higher. Fruciante is going 5 notes higher

  • how the fuck do these ppl see him play??

    where do u get tickets?

  • I love how he says fucking

    Is that weird? lol

  • i love everything he says or does, and i don't think it's weird :)

  • John.Perfect.

  • the song came out 32 years ago? idk

  • eh ?

  • the hendrix song is 31 years old he meant..

  • oh ..

  • didnt john right this song? On Niandra LaDes and Usually just a t-shirt?

  • o lol nm i thought courtesy was talking about Mascara lol not Castles made of sand

  • John´s really a humble and down to earth guy

  • Jimi was not the best guitarist ever if you mean in terms of technical proficiency. however, he was one of the most original songwriters and was able to communicate emotion really well through his playing. Zappa probably was a better player, but as a composer he didn't really match hendrix, imo, and in the opinion of many others. and santana is seriously overrated XP. sorry.

  • THIS IS TO PAPR101101:

john frusciantes biggest influence was jimi hendrix. then he loved frank zappa and jimmy page. clapton was NOT one of his biggest influences.

and WOW, CLAPTON IS NOT THE BEST GUITARIST EVER. first is hendrix, 2nd is not clapton, i think clapton is like at best, 10th. i honestly think frusicante is the 2nd best guitarist ever.

    CLAPTON = OVERRATED

  • Clapton is good, maybe forth.. Jimi, Santana and then John.. that's what i think... In any case great freaking concert!

  • it was Hendrix himself who said that Zappa is a better guitarplayer then him.... The thing is that zappa mainly was a composer and he did not focus on his guitarplaying, it was just a part of what he was doing...

  • okandah: jimi and Jimmy were both influenced by Clapton, so there is vicarious influence there. Remember, everyone is influenced by whatever they hear. Influence is not a one way street. Every modern guitarist of rock or blues has been influenced by Clapton heavily, since he had such an effect on the way rock and blues guitar was played. John may not have copied EC's riffs and such, but he belongs to a genre of music that owes a lot to Clapton.

  • wrong..Clapton admires Jimi and everyone knows Hendrix a superior guitarist than him. If you wanna go back to influences please dont mention Clapton guitarist like BB King and Muddy Waters are the influences in Rock N Roll now a days...

  • Pt 1 to Fransisco: uh, no. Everyone knows Hendrix is a superior guitarist? Well, as a guitarist myself, i find myself listening to Clapton A LOT more than Hendrix, and that says nothing about the "quality" of my musical taste, so don't go making cracks about me not knowing what i am talking about. Music is not a competition about who is "better," and i don't think there are a lot of people who appreciate it when you try to make it one.

  • Pt 2 to Fransisco: As far as influence goes, Clapton is one of the most influential guitar players to ever live. Without him, we probably wouldn't know half of those great blues guys. The Les Paul/Marshall combo was popularized by Clapton from the Beano album (1965). Hendrix only went to England on the condition he could MEET Clapton. The original Les Paul went out of production in the 1960's, but was brought back becuz everyone wanted one. Why? Becuz EC was using it with the Bluesbreakers.

  • Pt 3: So don't go putting Clapton down when it comes to influence. Influence is not an opinion, and I'm sorry if you disagree with the scale of EC's influence, you are WRONG.

Did you know that Frusciante's solo in "Savior" was an emulation of Clapton? Listen to it without the echo, it sounds a lot like him, and Frusc. even said so.

Hint: Your not a musicologist if you don't know what your talking about.

  • do you really think your long rant will change anyones mind?

  • no, but getting things off my chest makes me feel better. And you never know, not everyone is a close minded douche.

  • you're right about the solo man! but listen to intro's from the peppers I believe that is waay mor hendrix...anyhow,both great guitar players but 'John Frusciante'...he's my man!

    greets :)

  • agreed :). they are all fantastic.

  • wow dude that was a long reply.. but true.. i admired clapton a lot and he is a huge influence.. but Jimi just totally changed rock.. if u hear BSSM thats a lot of Hendrix/Slovak mix.. now John does changed a lot of musical styles.. but ur right man.. i never meant to put Clapton down.. in my personal opinion Hendrix is better than Clapton..

  • definitely man hendrix is all over frusciantes playing. frusciante sounds dirtier though, and in my opinion should go down as the most important guitarist of all time

  • i totally agree with you but i think one should be fair and say "one" of the most important...

  • It doesn't make any sense to compare musicians like that. It's all preference and I hate it when people act like it's possible for one to be "Better" than the other because it depends on who you like more.

  • I hope no one pronounces LaDes like Ladies. i met a girl who did that once.

i've heard him say it in an interview La-DES is how its pronounced

  • does anyone have any theories on what this song is about?

  • i notice thete there any songs from smile

    on this show

  • yea

    lifes a bath for example

but mascara is from Niandra lades

  • life's a bath ?

  • fuck hendrix fuck clappton fuck jesus...john fru is god

  • ahhhhhhhhh i love this comment

  • Ahahah! really Great! I have to agree with Joana

xD it is really an awesome comment!

    Woot Portugal FTW!!!xD

  • awsome comment

  • I personally also like john frusciante better then clapton and hendrix, but I would never say fuck them, cause john would not be john without those two influences and those two are two of the best guitarists ever..

  • 17283, quit calling john the fru! its soooooooo gay

  • t'es genial john tu pete tout!! t'es un vrai artiste et vivement que tu vienne a parisss!! sort a un new album en 2008!!!! =) merci ;)

  • the best part of this song is the duel voice thing..its still great though. One of my fav frusciante songs!

  • fuckin amazing song, what a performance, anyone notice that his live shows are actually better than the recorded version?

    WHAT A SONG

  • so awesome...

  • john suona con le corde dell'anima

  • when?

  • i know that guitar is a Martin but what model is it?

  • It's actually a 1958 0-15.

  • this song has parts from your pussy's glued, been insane and outside space

  • Thanks, cos' that hasn't been pointed out already...

  • He did this better when he was on drugs... That's not a stab at him, I just mean at the performance at the Viper room was better.

  • mascara + been insane + outside space

  • That's a different song.

  • No it isn't, it's still part of the song because after the coda it fades out, and then a new songs starts.

  • I don't know what a Coda is.

  • If you don't even know what section of the song I'm referring to then how could you even claim that it's a different song? It doesn't make the least amount of sense.

  • Calm the fuck down, I was just being an egg.

  • Idiot. How about commenting on something you do know.....

  • I was minding my own business, dickhead, but you responded on my comment, not the other way around. What kind of fucking retard makes a response and later states, "Oh, I didn't know what you were talking about." Fucking idiot.

  • I know you're an asshole, can I comment on that?

  • Words can not describe what a piece of shit you are. I wasn't even being aggressive when I responded to your comments. You're the little bitch who felt trapped and started getting aggressive. Asswhole.

  • Holy shit, I am SO sorry, my stupid cousin was one and leaving bullshit comments on all my stuff. I only sent the first one about it being a different song, but I didn't know what I was talking about. So sorry about my comments :)

  • he loves complements

  • John is a musician in the truest sense. I hope to god he plays some solo shows in the US sometime soon.

  • which album did john release first, niandra laDes or smile from the streets you hold??
