Rusty Santana - March 4th 1970 - November 6th 2010 - Suicide By Overdose
They just don't write music like they used to, do they. Full of feeling and emotion, and that sax at the end is a touch that is hard to replicate. Written when music was made popular because of TALENT, not because MTV force-feeds it down the throat of the masses. It's sad but true, video really did kill the radio star. It sucks to be older but, from a musical standpoint, I'm glad I grew up when I did and was able to see the bands that I saw - in their prime and when they were hungry.
@Seattlecarnut what?????? its understandable if you like this album alot but how can you claim it as the best PF album?? you really like it better than Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, Wish You Were Here and Animals? what about Meddle, Obscured by Clouds, or Atom Heart Mother? and there are a few others before that, too...
@freddiebarry93 Now, don't get your knickers in a knot. I love Dark Side and The Final Cut. I haven't listened to any of the other PF cds. Perhaps when I do, I'll make my own judgement, ok?
the final cut is the only Floyd album i'm not into. i do like "the hero's return", i LOVE the guitar solo from "the fletcher memorial home" and i really like "not now john". but the other songs, i don't like so much...Roger's singing just really turns me off in those tracks. even he admitted it wasn't good singing
Bullocks to the critics. This song, and every other one, are awesome. If you don't like the track of "The Final Cut" you have no soul, your entire family hates you, and you can't figure out what that "THING" is on your back. Love ya Rog.
@SuperFezziwig wait i have a question....what about this album do you like best? do you like it most because of the concept that the lyrics illustrate? or is it the music that you like most?
as much as i like this album, i think the reason that most people dont care for it, is that it is basicly a Rogers solo album. after wish you were here, he kind of got a superiority complex, and thought that he was the groups key member, and started dictating there artistic choices.
the other band members thought that they were not being allowed to contribute any ideas of musical talent to most of the songs on this album, and the wall and animals to a lesser extent.
@themightygreenman and the other members are as guilty as roger is. as roger did not realize that he was making the other members feel that way the other members where actually contributing part of their magic into each song from all those albums, and although they may seemingly be roger waters single songs, if gilmour and the other guys weren't contributing anything it wouldn't be as good as it is. the whole band together is what it takes to make these masterpieces, it is not a one man game.
@freddiebarry93 well .. ! If you don't like Waters , why do you listen to him ? that's not for you Crapturrt .. is for for people who judge and they don't know which way to go , and in the end they judge people in any directions they fingers go .. if you are scared from dark dont be , because by listen to rihana you not going to know what is going in your life for true , and only Roger can tell you what is it , and all of you who judge Waters you are only insects !!!!!!
@Skenderbegss DID I SAY THAT I DON'T LIKE ROGER WATERS?? NO!
as a matter of fact, i'm a BIG FAN OF HIM! wtf is up with you people on youtube who assume the most absurd shit? fuck off will you? You obviously need to learn not to judge haha
just because i said Water's songs are dark, does not mean i dislike them! i absolutely love all of his lyric concepts. I'm not in love with this particular album.
do you even know english, man? you do not make any sense, whatsoever
@699smooth Roger's fans aren't "this" or "that". there are all sorts of Waters fans. ANYWAY i'm more of a Pink Floyd fan...i'm not really into Roger's solo stuff...people of all ages, races, and gender are fans of him. i am an american 18 year old for example and i know a 60 year old Austrian guy who is a big Floyd fan, and we are very different but share good music taste.
and wait who the hell are you? i was talking to Skenderbegss and your acting like i replied to your comment?? im confused
anyone else find the fact this was the song in the Waters' era funny? the very last verse is "we were all equal in the end" ... of course roger had yelled at nick for not being able to drum to this song, kicked richard out of the band, and then said pink floyd was all his... I just find the last phrase hilariously ironic!!... Don't get me wrong, I love Roger - my favorite artist... as he explains in the wall shows he was "miserable and fucked up" back in these days, lol
seems roger waters dreams about the 2 suns are comeing true. tis is the nail in the coffin. when did this come out? in the 70 s or 80s? ive had dreams come true as well but never made a song about a dream that was comeing true right infront of us. if you dont understand this song just search YT vids for comet elenin, nibirue ore plant x. or just watch the two suns we now hav. i wasent really totttally believivg it untell i heard tis song.
One of my all-time favorite Floyd / Waters songs... Actually... Best lyricist out there, and even if you don't enjoy the "adult contemporary" sound this album has... It has some of the best lyrics of any album...
Unlike a lot of Pink Floyd fans, I like this album. When I read the review I was expecting mediocre anti war songs for 40 minutes, but I was really surprised. This album is really good. Its not my favorite but it's good. The only problems with the album is that a lot of the songs sound the same, but if you like the sound then you will like all the songs.
this song's incredible. it's a lot like hallowed be thy name, by iron maiden. i first heard this, and some other floyd at about age four, and they were ground into my brain. that might be why i like maiden so much. Floyd's fuckin incredible
I have listened to this song many times, but never interpreted it correctly until after I listened to "The sun is Burning." Then it was simple and I could appreciate this song even more!
lets see the pink floyd albums i have are in order (correct me if i am wrong) the piper at the gates of dawn, meddle, dark side of the moon, the wall disc 2, and animals i want more man.
Having first seen the Floyd way back in 69( yeah Im an old lad). Theres not a bad Floyd track. Each one has its own merit, and a TRUE fan would accept that.
I've read a comment on Marooned and one guy said that The Division Bell and The Final Cut are the worst Pink Floyd albums. Well... it's definitely a matter of taste. It's so strange that I've been listening Pink Floyd all my life and I consider this album one of the best. Quite puzzling. But, in the end, it's not about what album is the best... it's all about the fact that they influenced my life and I would be a poorer man without their music.
@christhefugitive Sod that comment - The Division Bell is by far the best post-Waters PF album, and The Final Cut is an incredible piece of work. If you must have a worst its probably Atom Heart Mother.
@Ascerus I love Ummagumma! Some of it is very avant-garde, but you can really learn to love it.
I've got every album except from Soundtrack from the Film More (want it tho) and the albums after The Final Cut. I love all of them, can't really decide which one I love the most, nor which one I dislike the most. It's all gold. Depends on my mood, really.
Nibiru is not new - ages ago mankind dedicated studies to it which didn't point towards destruction. For me personally the song simply pointed to an end which is not the end some do expect but an end that every single one experiences. Death of parents, friends and loved ones are striking and confusing all of us at a very certain moment.
The nonsense of is simply to spend that much energy to achieve it prior to schedule :) ........Coming from the pub :)
Top 5 albums of all time. Dark side will always be number one, but this comes very close. Even though I try to include more variety on my fav albums, Pink floyds albums are so good, its hard to leave one out.
For those who don't know, this song coincided with early years of the Reagan Administration when everybody was freaking out because Reagan was massively building up American nuclear weapons and talking about the "evil empire" and nuclear armageddon (yes, even the top American generals were getting nervous). This album was a nod to the worldwide Ban The Bomb movement and a scathing criticism of Thatcher's ridiculous war in the Falklands.
@ianderekwatson I have to agree...give me total goose bumps every time I hear it. When CD's came out, this was my very first one I ever bought. I now own every single last piece of material that PF ever produced. Just cant get enough!!
@RuffHouseStudios Andy Newmark. Yup, he played on Roger's solo Album, "The Pros and Cons of Hitchiking." He is a VERY well-regarded studio drummer. His timing on this tune is impeccable.
He also played the Waters/Gilmour charity benefit recently.
i hope i am wrong but it strikes me that roger knew something that a tew of us are only waking up to now. i not some nut case, but sound like he talking about what some people call "nibiru", destroying human civilisation as we know it.... ashes and diamonds, foe and friend, we were all equal in the end.
@kingdion69 It's got nothing to do with superstitions. The other sun in the sunset is supposed to be a nuclear explosion. There's even a picture of that in the LP's inner sleeve of the record.
@hippiedp It's a good song, but it's not really PF. Every song in Final Cut was meant for The Wall, but they weren't good enough and didn't make that record.
Roger Waters insisted on making this LP even when the rest of the band refused, and he published it anyway under the PF name. If you see the record, all of the band members are credited in it, but actually only Roger and hired extra musicians played in it.
@1971ojoalparche1971 Yeah, I read that at Wikipedia, but I generally think that the final cut is a good album. However, I can see two things that did not make so many people to prefer it. The first one is the fact that not even Waters who wrote this album seems to have been excited during the recordind of it. And the second one is the fact that the Final Cut came out after a miracle of music and people would probably never expect something less better than it after its releasion.
@hippiedp I don't know what Wikipedia says, although you bring up good points. The truth is the band was on the point of breaking up while this was recorded: Wright was gone, Mason was distracted with car racing and a divorce, Gilmour and Waters didn't want to be in the same place together, and so on.
PF's fans have always been loyal. Everyone expected a good record, but Final Cut was just far below their capacities. Their later records were pretty good I think.
I just disagree on every level. This is probably tied with the wall as my favorite album by them. Obviously, i like the really maturbatory stuff by waters. To me, waters IS pink floyd. I never liked the syd barret stuff and the later albums without waters sounded like they could have been made by any decent alt rock group. I wish the group could have stayed together but i would much rather listen to waters than gilmore and especially more than barret.
@kmiller812 If you disagree" on every level", you are disagreeing with what Nick Mason wrote. He knows more about this than you or I, and I was paraphrasing from chapter 10 (pp 262-274) of Inside Out, the book he wrote. I have it right here in front of me and I recommend it.
You like Roger Waters a lot and that's great, but can you be more authoritative on this than Mason?
I wasnt replyng to that comment I was reply to the one where you said that this album did not meet expectations and that you liked the later albums better.
@1971ojoalparche1971 - The only person not on "The Final Cut" from Pink Floyd was Richard Wright. Yes, there were hired musicians, but it isn't a case of the hired musicians being the only people on the album.
@Zenutheduck I suppose strictly speaking you are correct. From Inside Out, the book Nick Mason wrote (pp264,) he explains Roger Waters composed the whole thing and it was going to be published as a solo Roger W. album, but the record company was expecting a new PF one, so they were legally bound to release it as PF.
Gilmour did play some of his solos and Waters respected them, and Mason played in some songs, even though Waters commented it didn't matter because he was "...just a drummer."
@sawdring American by any chance ? Commie lyrics ? The whole album is anti-war not pro-communist. I'd take "their politics" in a heartbeat over anything currently on offer. By the way, which "politics" DON'T falter in the real world; i'd love to know.
They should always play this song in all embassy elevators, break rooms and offices. I love the album, very political, thank you for posting this one.
recently after listening this video. 2 people commited suicide........as they accidentally realized that they hit the dislike button.......they wanted to take it back........but there is no turning back...
@robert140602 probably he could, but roger was totally obsessed with some things, so nick was at that time only a drummer.... yeah, roger at that time was genius as he has always been, but also was in perfect isolation there behind his wall...
I don't get the people saying it's a bad album. Roger is at his best and Dave cuts solos as ever. you may not agree with the message but musically it's a friggin' masterpiece.
@frerinho actually i believe Wright at the time was fired...and only reunited to the Water-less Floyd for the Momentary album...that's what I just read about the Final Cct on Wikipedia
I don't usually burst into tears... But when I do, you know it's the glorious fault of Roger Waters.

@TGPotet I love UmmaGumma. It's just the worst PF Album.

I just can't get enough of this song, its just perfect
just something about that sax solo that just speaks to me.
Pink Floyd has a tendency to do that

Top 5 albums of all time. Dark side will always be number one, but this comes very close. Even though I try to include more variety on my fav albums, Pink floyds albums are so good, its hard to leave one out.
buddy39914 9 months ago 2

Newfieguy89 10 months ago
I love Pink Floyd but whoever played drums on this song is freakin awesome! Did he play on any other Floyd or Waters?
RuffHouseStudios 10 months ago
@RuffHouseStudios Andy Newmark. Yup, he played on Roger's solo Album, "The Pros and Cons of Hitchiking." He is a VERY well-regarded studio drummer. His timing on this tune is impeccable.
He also played the Waters/Gilmour charity benefit recently.

i hope i am wrong but it strikes me that roger knew something that a tew of us are only waking up to now. i not some nut case, but sound like he talking about what some people call "nibiru", destroying human civilisation as we know it.... ashes and diamonds, foe and friend, we were all equal in the end.
kingdion69 11 months ago
@kingdion69 It's got nothing to do with superstitions. The other sun in the sunset is supposed to be a nuclear explosion. There's even a picture of that in the LP's inner sleeve of the record.

I dont care what this song talks about. To me it has a specific meaning. This is ny favorite Pink Floyd song.
hippiedp 11 months ago
@hippiedp It's a good song, but it's not really PF. Every song in Final Cut was meant for The Wall, but they weren't good enough and didn't make that record.
Roger Waters insisted on making this LP even when the rest of the band refused, and he published it anyway under the PF name. If you see the record, all of the band members are credited in it, but actually only Roger and hired extra musicians played in it.
1971ojoalparche1971 10 months ago
@1971ojoalparche1971 Yeah, I read that at Wikipedia, but I generally think that the final cut is a good album. However, I can see two things that did not make so many people to prefer it. The first one is the fact that not even Waters who wrote this album seems to have been excited during the recordind of it. And the second one is the fact that the Final Cut came out after a miracle of music and people would probably never expect something less better than it after its releasion.
hippiedp 10 months ago
@hippiedp I don't know what Wikipedia says, although you bring up good points. The truth is the band was on the point of breaking up while this was recorded: Wright was gone, Mason was distracted with car racing and a divorce, Gilmour and Waters didn't want to be in the same place together, and so on.
PF's fans have always been loyal. Everyone expected a good record, but Final Cut was just far below their capacities. Their later records were pretty good I think.
1971ojoalparche1971 10 months ago
@1971ojoalparche1971
I wish the group could have stayed together but i would much rather listen to waters than gilmore and especially more than barret.
kmiller812 10 months ago
@kmiller812 If you disagree" on every level", you are disagreeing with what Nick Mason wrote. He knows more about this than you or I, and I was paraphrasing from chapter 10 (pp 262-274) of Inside Out, the book he wrote. I have it right here in front of me and I recommend it.
You like Roger Waters a lot and that's great, but can you be more authoritative on this than Mason?
1971ojoalparche1971 10 months ago
@1971ojoalparche1971
I wasnt replyng to that comment I was reply to the one where you said that this album did not meet expectations and that you liked the later albums better.
kmiller812 10 months ago
@1971ojoalparche1971 - The only person not on "The Final Cut" from Pink Floyd was Richard Wright. Yes, there were hired musicians, but it isn't a case of the hired musicians being the only people on the album.
Zenutheduck 10 months ago
@Zenutheduck I suppose strictly speaking you are correct. From Inside Out, the book Nick Mason wrote (pp264,) he explains Roger Waters composed the whole thing and it was going to be published as a solo Roger W. album, but the record company was expecting a new PF one, so they were legally bound to release it as PF.
Gilmour did play some of his solos and Waters respected them, and Mason played in some songs, even though Waters commented it didn't matter because he was "...just a drummer."
1971ojoalparche1971 10 months ago
@Zenutheduck Oh, and David's vocals on Not Now John.

@sawdring American by any chance ? Commie lyrics ? The whole album is anti-war not pro-communist. I'd take "their politics" in a heartbeat over anything currently on offer. By the way, which "politics" DON'T falter in the real world; i'd love to know.

@robert140602 probably he could, but roger was totally obsessed with some things, so nick was at that time only a drummer.... yeah, roger at that time was genius as he has always been, but also was in perfect isolation there behind his wall...
