While I think you really shut the SpoonyOne up with this one I think he was more of a reviewing it from the perspective he had of the game back in the 80's. The dueling rebuttal was especially really nice considering that was the guys main gripe with the game.
It's actually a good game. You could say it's a kind of pioneer game in the action-rpg sector. Lots of great ideas for it's time, unfortunately not entirely finished. I guess they lacked funding or had to throw the game out due to the movies' release, this way a lot of interesting features couldn't be implemented although the game manual mentions them. I'd really loved to see the trading, for example. You can actually earn gold, but you can't really use it anywhere except for two scenes.
I'm working on a review of this myself. The game was actually MASSIVELY delayed, it came out way after the movie IIRC. I think like a year or even more.
I suspect a troubled production history. I agree with you that it is actually a decent game, despite a number of significant issues.
Fantastic video. Please do more. Although I guess you got really PUMPED and inspired for this one, considering spoony's slaughtering of this fantastic game. Hehe.
Thanks for the comments and good ratings so far. Yes, I was - although I really love Spoony's work - a bit pissed about this one *g*
But I don't plan to make any other videos at the moment, because there are literally hundreds of (retro-)game reviewers already on the net, let alone a few dozen on youtube. I wouldn't do anything which wasn't done a hundred times already.
But who knows, maybe someday Spoony or another of the "great ones" will tear apart another favourite game of mine ;)
The only thing this game lacked was a save game. Otherwise it was WAAAAY ahead of it's time an freaking AWESOME. One of the best nes games every made.
Agree with this review a bit more. I love SpoonyOne's review, but your is a bit more fair.
The only problem I had with the game overall was it was a bit clunky/buggy (you mentioned that though). However, after playing the game, it was easy to adjust to.
And good grief! That last bit of infromation... I never even knew that could happen.
Buggy I can deal with, many of the Nekketsu series was buggy, but they were really fun.

Well that's really a nasty bug. I mean, eating leather armor is what it's for, right? Om nom nom.
Really interesting to see someone play a "shitty" game the way it's supposed to be played and clarify that there are way worse out there

Lol, Eating your armor...Your right though, Spoonyone doesn't put much effort in the game and blames the game.

Great review. One time I was at the end of the game and I walked into a bush and could not get out I had to start all over.

SpoonyOne is usually very biased in his reviews. I agree, this was actually a pretty good game. I've seen it on several top 100 NES games lists.
