Do these pipes replace the exhaust manifold as well? Mine has that awesome sound where you can tell something's kind of loose inside. I've been looking for either an alternative, or toying with the idea of trying to knock them out.

Ztechnick should pay you a commission. I bought a set after hearing your sounds and now they're on my Stiletto I can tell you they sound even better in real life. Don't know about increased hp or torque though, I'd say its unchanged. As you suggest, the popping goes away after a while. A great video clip, cheers and thanks!

Harley sound is different. Period.

I bought my BMW R1200C for the weight /power ratio, the integral ABS brakes, the lower center of gravity from the boxer engine, and I had a higher perceived reliability index for BMW over Harley. Not certain it is true or not, but do enjoy the ride and find it handles and turns much tighter and seems to be easier than the Harleys I ride with.

I think you're right. I usually get the impression that after a couple of miles that the BMW is built around me instead of the feeling that I'm riding a bike. I don't really get that feeling from the couple of Vrods and the sportster that I've spent some time on. Although I do like the harley potato-potato-potato sound, I am quite partial to the BMW purr.

First of all I would like to congratulate "northwestwill" on his idea to post such an interesting video which, in my opinion, clearly shows the difference between the two exhaust systems. Personally I like the original BMW exhaust because its sound is unique. The Ztechs make such a unique motorcycle sound more like a Japanese bike.

this is a very good bike. very beautiful bike. but too bad teh sound is like a Honda 70cc bike. what a shame.

Like a 70cc? My usual riding group is with a couple Boulevards and a V Star and they sound nothing like this bike.  There is a lot more growl in those pipes than in both of the other bikes put together (although the V Star has a good note as well).

I think you have not check out the sound of a harley yet. now that's the real deal sound. With all due respect, i have no bad intention to say soemthign bad ok. I like your bike very much. I like this model very much. that's why i am here to check out this model. but i gotta say, i didn't expect the sound to be like this. the sound is worst with the original pipes. even the Yamaha XV535 sounds so much better than this model. that's why i said the sound of this model is like Honda C70.

I bought these pipes for my '01 Phoenix in '05 and I love the throatier sound over the original pipes plus there is slightly improved horsepower.

The reason I like the Ztechs is because they aren't loud. I can still talk to my passengers, clearly hear my iPod, and I just wrapped a 2k mi roadtrip with in-helmet intercoms that I never turned past 60%. The difference is that the bike sounds much more authoritative. The level of audio only went up about 8-10db in my VU meter, but the timbre fleshed out a lot. The original has a quiet super-sewing-machine sound in person that tends to be a bit dangerous (unnoticeable) in close traffic.

@northwestwill -- I agree with you on this point. The stock R1200C exhaust is very quiet, and the "super sewing machine" description is exactly what I've thought before. Very puny. I sounds similar to my 250cc Vespa exhaust. A lot of people on forums respond with comments like 'deelee74' did above, saying that BMWs are supposed to be quiet. I'm not opposed to quiet at all. What I don't like is a *scooter* sound coming out of my 1200cc cruiser.

I have found (with a number of bikes) that when its popping its usually the bike telling me I'm not riding right... After 20 or 30 starts with the Ztechs (over a couple weeks) the computer had learned the differences and adjusted the engine accordingly - mine runs just as well as before and the plugs still looked great when I pulled them (a year later).

I had tried Ztechs and found the bike ran too rich...LOTS of pops and backfires, particularly when downshifting.
