lived in Magadi for 3 years, went to school in Nairobi - remember the Giraffes in Langata well at the manor - they strayed into the garden at night, of the teacher we boarded with! There was the occasional crime problem but the Askaris made sure of security - whats it like now i was there from 1982-85?

Issue is government causes problems for tourist (like most places) but to pretend an entire country is safer than it is is dangerous. I can travel most places as tourist w/local people, but to give impression an entire country is safe while people get chopped by machete in some areas is wrong.

Personally, I blame greedy media (Ted Turner, etc) for taking these adverts. They just take money.

@luci66 when you go to a different city even in your own country, do you not keep your wits about you? It's the same in Kenya. It would be better to arrange a tour, or connect with a native Kenyan to take you around. Once you develop a connection, you will never want to leave, I promise. Just bring all you need and your family coz you may not want to return to your country once you get here.
