As long as people are convinced that there is a "we", than there is going to be a "them." If it is derogative term it should be avoided PERIOD. It does not matter WHO you are. However, if someone can explain to me who these "we" individuals are, who are allowed to use this term (i.e. how they are objectively identifiable), than maybe we (i.e. ALL people) can have this discussion. Until then, it is a just BS excuse to use it.
The "N-Word" is the same as saying Nigga / Nigger. Substituting words like that is such a practice of fooling one's self. It's so fucking obvious. If a white man went up to a black man and said, "you're a fucking n-word!" - it'd be taken the exact same way, as it should.
"N-Word" is just a way to say Nigger, for the media. They found a way to make it acceptable to everyone. It's fucking brilliant how they did that. People are fucking morons.
The term "niggerhead" was once widely used for all sorts of things, including products such as soap and chewing tobacco, but most often for geographic features such as hills and rocks and geological objects.
The 5 DUMMIES on the view don't know this, how stupid are they?
I was about to write but can't say the S word because the N word proceeds it, so then the G word came to mind so I paused a moment because it reminded me of the T word so I said F it, I'll just be an A H if I continue!
I think everyone is blowing this kind of stuff way out of proportion it is just a dumb word that I personally would never be in a position I would ever want or need to say but whatever world isn't perfect and never will be
If white people hate this word so much and sum swear they dont use it. WHY IN THE FUCK DO YOU CARE WETHER I USE IT OR NOT!
THE ONLY REASON WHITE PEOPLE DONT WANT TO HEAR THE WORD NIGGA IS BECAUSE ITS NOT HEALTHY FOR THEM TO SAY IT. CAUSE IF THEY WERE TO SAY NIGGER, OR NIGGA AROUND ANYONE THAT IS BLACK, THEY WOULD BE PICKING UP THEIR TEETH.
They don't want us to say it cause they can't say it! POINT BLANK!
@mizundrstod the word nigger should never be used even other people of the same race calling each other niggers. white peole shouldnt say nigger as much as black people shouldnt say nigger
"Nigger" is one of those words that can only reflect negatively on the person who uses it. It's a shocker & why you would want to walk around sounding like a Southern Civil War re-enactor is beyond me. Mind you, Fox managed to bleep out about 1/2 of what Whoopi was saying under cover of erasing the "N" word. Tools.
It's a horrible word but do white people really want permission to use it to the point of crying! I'm kidding in regards to Elisabeth crying but this is the deal; it's a word and like words, it only has power when you give it power. Having said that, if you're not black and you feel the need to use it, don't be surprised when you get a negative reaction. It has been used racially by blacks and whites and turned into a posetive when used in black comedy. Stop letting a word hurt your feelings.
There is no justifiable reason for anyone whether Black, White, Red, or Yellow, to use the Nigger word. As a black man I am sick of us using that word within our circle and then justify the means. Who are we to say that white people have no right to do the same. What a buch of hypocrites we are. We should be ashame of ourselves. To tell the truth, you have no class!
@foreverinchrist1 as a fellow black person, ive come to the realization that there are two distinctly diff arguments (amongst black ppl only) ab this issue. either we use it and defend it as hate speech turned into a term of endearment, or we vehemently denounce it and those who say it as ignorant and hypocritical.. we, as an entire ppl, have to come to an agreement and define this word for ourselves before we can have this conversation with another race.
@dbfro1 We as a people? Well! I think the word has it's own definition, it has already been defined. Why waste time in trying to define a word to suite our purpose within our circle, and then resort back to it's true meaning when someone else who is not our race uses the same term? How do you justify your reasoning?
@foreverinchrist1 u have ur stance on the word and u feel, evidently, very strong ab it. and there are ppl with ur same skin complexion who feel jus as strongly. the only diff is u want it revoked from the english lexicon, and they dont. which is why i said what i said. For the conversation ab "nigger" to be legitimately had between the races, blacks should first agree on what the word itself means to us. thats all, i honestly want it to mean the same if a white person or a black person says it.
@foreverinchrist1 i dont want there to be separate rules for separate races...i think that is BS. the only thing that matters is context. if a black person calls me nigga and the context surrounding it is that he/she is trying to be hateful or venemous towards me, i will be jus as offended as if a white person called me nigger. theres no double standard. everyone is accountable, but it starts with us first.
@dbfro1 I must disagree! If anyone called me a nigger I would be affended regardless, race has no bearing!
There is only one meaning for the this word, and to say that black people has a monopoly on this word is ridiculous. You must remember, it was not blacks who imployed this word. It was the white race. So now we have adopted this word as if it belongs to us. So now we have accepted the N word, and feel like it's now ok to use it towards each other, there is no harm done.
@foreverinchrist1 i think i may have miscommunicated.. all im saying is that there is ur view, which is widely held by a large number of african americans, and then theres my view, which is held by an equally large number of african americans. im not trying to justify the usage of the word, its jus hard to have a racial discussion ab it when we cant even agree on the word ourselves..and i know the history of the word, obviously it began with whites but was transformed by blacks to mean something
@foreverinchrist1 completely different, as it is in our culture to do so. taking the scraps that was given to us, and turning them into culture/art/beauty etc etc.
@dbfro1 There is nothing or ever will be anything beautiful about the N word! How do you defend such rhetoric? You say it was given to us! Well! I think we just started using this out of anger and fear towards each other. It is simply the "THUG" Mentality that has come to simbolize our black culture.
@foreverinchrist1 u seem to be unable to comprehend my point.. i didnt equate the n word with beauty, but instead i merely stated the strength of african american culture to take something negative and turn it into something positive. it is not important whether i "defend such rhetoric" bc this isnt ab me, or ab you, its ab black ppl as a whole being able to agree on what the word means to us. for a lot of african americans, it is negative, and for lot of african americans, it is positive.
@dbfro1 I do understand your point. If what you say is true, then what I am saying my friend, there is no need for to be offended when some other culture uses the same word regardless. We need to stop complaining and go on with life.
@foreverinchrist1 amen. i agree with u on that. i, personally, take no offense to the word bc i refuse to let one noun have such a dramatic effect on me. life is too short. God bless.
@foreverinchrist1 i think ur way off when u say its simply bc of the 'thug' mentality that the n word is so popular. it is used by old and young, educated and uneducated, by criminals and by productive members of society. the usage of the word among blacks is not held by one specific demographic of black ppl. its bigger than jus ignorant youths with a limited vocab. and, on the flip side, it is also vehemently denounced by blacks across all age groups, socioeconomic backgrounds, etc etc.
If I may paraphase someone by the name of Time Wise (who by the way is white). This is a conservation that should be had within our demographic being black people. There's not a white person on this planet that can help me or any other black person use or not use the word. This conservation is not to be had with white people period so please go back to your own world of white privilege starbucks coffee and leave your opinions out of it.
I understand both parties here but unfortunately we dont live in the same world, mentally. Not that it has anything to do with slavery but the relevance of 60s still is associated with todays living and I think that when people say they dont see color, they are lying to themselves to justify prejudisim. Hasselback is silly to think that her tears were neccessary. The N wrd should never be used by blacks and whites just like the word cracker. As the whte population declines, it might just happen.
So what if black people wanna say it. Grew up listening to rap so Ive heard blacks say it loads. As a white person when I hear a black person say it, it's got no meaning to me.
@Sssarah23555 Black people don't get awards. If you're talking about reparations, not all black people get those. Just those whose ancestors didn't get money (slaves) for building companies that became successful and that the white slaveowner's decsendents are still rich from (even though the decsendents are no longer upholding the company). No one's asking you to feel guilt. White people ARE favored in this country. You're too dumb to accept that. Most white people already know this.
Being white the word bothers me just cause of its origin. To hear it NO MATTER WHO SAYS IT. Owning it or trying to make it better? UM the N WORD NO MATTER HOW YOU SAY IT OR HOW YOU MEAN IT IS WRONG! Not saying you can't cause people are going to say it no matter what. But its a sick word that should be erased. No matter who says it or how you want to use it...the origin of the word will ALWAYS be remembered. Nasty Foul Word!
White people invented that word so don't tell us we can't use a word we invented, oh really? you took that word back did you? we gave you that word back because we had already thought up funnier ones to call you, any black person trying justify it is fucking stupid, I don't think your ancestors would find it that funny.
@Sssarah23555 Omfg. Black people do not have more rights. We all have the same rights, but White people have the privilege in this country. This country is aimed towards pleasing you, making you more comfortable, basically nearly everything in this country is biased in your favor (especially WW). You're too blind to see it because you're too busy calling Black people racist for pointing out racism (which is some dumb shit btw).
No matter what changes are made that word is always going to have a negative undertone because that's what it came from. I think we should equally have more respect towards old wounds and not use that term at all to describe African Americans, no matter the context or change the word comes from negativity and lack of understanding one another, we should strive and be above the word entirely this is just my opinion.
I have to agree with Elizabeth, I don't think black people should use the word in popular culture and not because I think they use it negatively in regard to themselves but because the word itself comes from a bad place.
I disagree with Barbara that Wright advances ANY kind of bigoted agenda. Joyce is correct that Wright was referring to the ancient Roman empire which was extremely violent, hateful, and dictatorial -- it was an oppressive, slavery based colonialist empire which brutally & violently oppressed it's own citizens- it killed JESUS! It is amazing that Barbara takes Wright's views (which actually condemn racism) completely out of context. Listen to Wright's FULL interview w/Bill Moyer for the TRUTH
Whoopi makes a great point here. Using "nigga" is a way of taking power from those who used it against us. I don't get why Liz started crying though, it doesn't effect her in the least. Bob Beckel makes he comparison of calling his neighbors "white trash", gay people call each other fags, women call each other bitch its all taking power from the oppresser.
@MegaCGK good point, im white and wouldnt dream of sayin none of them words. n her cryin was her way of sayin that word needs to b gone, a of them words as a matter of fact
How can a white man respect another race,s when that race has no respect for themselves? But at least Hasselbeck tries to give her view and doesn't get up and walk off the set like Whoopi had done when Bill Oriley was on talking about Muslims. Goldberg is just absolutely pathetic.......my opinion.
@357hank anything you say house nigger. and im black because if you cant see the psychology with the N word you are pathetic. Research white supremacy and the impact it still has on your people. I am so tired of passive ass black people who wont get angry and tired of the bullshit of white people. Im done!
Whoop made very great points... The whole thing was so controversial. Liz should have just listened and not become so bent out of shape. Why can she not just hear out someone else?
Bob Beckel made sense about the "white trash" comments used at home. He and his kin would not want everyone saying it.
Babs and other whites are better off not touching it if they are in showbiz. I bet she really would go off the air if she said the same thing. Why bother? Jobs are so hard to get, anyway.
@fortmany23 Liz was crying because she's sick of the hypocrisy that comes from African-Americans where as they're allowed to be prejudice & use the term ''nigger'' but when a white person shows any of those qualities in this time & era, blacks turn into drama freaks & I am black myself before you call me racist & I am so sick of ignorant African-Americans embarrassing us good blacks when attempt to integrate ourselves more in this society & this is why we will ALWAYS live in different worlds.
@PopCulture20 Listen get your frustration, and hope you don't take this as an insult or me preaching to you, but I think that you're getting things mixed up. When Whoopi says that her and Elisabeth are living in two worlds, don't read it in such a negative. She's simply stating a reality: that up until very recently blacks and whites in America did not have the same rights and were not considered equal. So as much as the country has moved on and overcome these issues, history CANNOT be ignored
@PopCulture20 So the use of the N word by blacks or whites is NOT the same thing and it will never be because as much as we may wish it, history cannot be erased. Now I do agree that the N word when used in gangster rap and when thrown around with no purpose is pretty frustrating, but when used by a black person such as Nas was in order to speak about history and struggle is not digging up the past but simply acknowledging something that happened. It's similar to when Jews mention the holocaust
@MrHoustonlina I'm not saying forget history because I love learning about black history in my spare time. My issue here is that blacks persist on using history to tear their fellow blacks down just because they're insecure about making ends meet so how can blacks live in the same world with each other when more and more blacks prefer to live in the same world with whites all because their fellow blacks don't wanna see them amount to anything? Can you explain that?
I think Elisabeth is frustrated because she can't use it and Whoopi can and that in itself is benign racism. Her tears are genuine. She's pissed about where her country is.
whoopi was just outing the n word so it loses its illusion of power it was genuine elisabeth has not cried over much more important issues to maerica then that it was personal
@tach69 I will keep praying to god, thank you. You support the professor because of his skin color. he was fucking guilty and should have been arrested. U should get a more vast vernacular sounds like a stupid asshole who wishes he was smart but just isn't.
... I don't think that the word should be a swear, however I do feel that black people should lay off on its use. I think the fact that white people hear black people say it so often is why they are puzzled by their ban of its use. Me as a black person, I don't chose to use it, not because I believe it should be a forbidden word, just because it almost never occurs to me to say it.
...You almost never hear the words wetback and spick to refer to hispanic people anymore; I've gone through 25 years before I even knew that Kike refered to Jewish people. It's because these words no longer have meaning; they've lost their power. Nigga/er still lives on because too many black people use it too often in common conversation and it is my opinion that I often assume that those who use it frequently are low class, uninteligent, and are, for a lack of a better term, niggas...
...I think the comment on Nas's use of the word was a good one, a good example of a black figure using the word to shed light on a subject and to teach about black history and experience, however more than most of the time that the N-Word is uttered it is for frivolous reasons. You don't hear gay men running around calling each other fag this and homo that, nor do you hear white people calling each other cracker...
I think the reason that the use of nigga/er is still a current subject today is because of its flagrant use. The host brought up the fact that gays took back the Q-Word and I've often heard gay men refer to themselves as "fags" however we don't hear other slurs used by the groups that they once oppress as often as we hear the N-Word...
@rainey53 I may not hear whites use the word cracker that much but I do hear whites refer to each as white trash and other slurs. jeff foxworthy made a career calling other whites redneck, and described them as trailer trash. And whites even call each other that in politics.
Police arrived at Gates’s Ware Street home near Harvard Square at 12:44 p.m. to question him. Gates, director of the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research at Harvard, had trouble unlocking his door after it became jammed. He was booked for disorderly conduct after “exhibiting loud and tumultuous behavior,” according to a police report.
I agree with the person who does not respect the word "at all" and no matter what context. Just like I don't understand why gays think it's ok for them to use the word f*g - it's wrong to use it regardelss, to me at least. But I refuse to tell any individual of different races, cultures and sexualities what they should do.
Etymology: Latin root "Niger"/black color. The romance languages derived it: negro, noir, etc. In 20th Century English vernacular and before it was a derogatory noun for Africans and Black people used by Whites. Since then, as Dr. Peterson explained, Black culture, particularly youth, has transformed it into a less hurtful adjective. Frankly, I think it's a ridiculous debate. White people shouldn't want to use it. Black people have a right to use it, but all Americans ave the right to speak....
I think that the only thing that the people of this country need to understand is we do live in a world where racism still exists, however we live in the world together and there is just as much racism from white to black as there is black to white. If everyone would stop saying that we "live in seperate worlds" and realize that we don't things would be a lot easier. Whoopi's excuse about her experiences growing up should only affect her, she no longer lives in that type of society. get over it!
RACE, ETHNICITY HEALTH CARE FACT SHEET whites blame their parents when they fail, rape, murder. blacks blame the white man. liberals period never take take responsibility for their actions. that would require stength and that is something liberals know nothing of.
@ 0:47 Elizabeth is crying because she obviously used the N word b4! w/her fake ass..Barbra is coming across as fake as well she just had to get that comment in eh !
So, black people don't like it when white people use it, but when they use it they use it in a "loving" manner. So, when gay people call each other flamers or fags, they just love each other? RIDICULOUS.
elisabeth is an overly sensitive dumb blonde het her off the how she doesnt know how the n word feels and never will unless she magically turns black and for the most part whoopi is right white and black people live in different worlds because our history is way different and we grew up differently it sux but the best we can do is love each other regardless skin color but still respect and agknowledge each others differences and stop acting like were color blind because everyone can see color
Maybe white people should call blacks nigger if they've so decided to call themselves such. After all don't we usually refer to people as they refer to themselves?
@qlaw04 um go fuck yourself comming from a mutiracial person & NO we nor they refer to them selfs as such, u just wanted to be a pigheaded idiot & drop ur favorite racist word stupid
@tach69 You don't hear blacks referring to themselves as nigger? In America? You must be the dullest, least observant mixed race MOFO in America ... What did Wesley Snipes say about mixed race children in "Jungle Fever..." No mixed race children for me they come out like a "bunch of mixed nuts...." LOL
@qlaw04 wow ur one of the dumbest ppl on the planet & heres why NO U idiot u dont hear black ppl in America saying that u moron U may hear NIGGA theirs a difference u stupid idiot 2nd if u seriously are taking something Wesley Fucking Snipes said in a movie then ur a fucking idiot as youve proven to add insult to injury ur actually stupid enough to take a fictitious movie to heart then ur a bigger moron then a thought 3rd the attempted racist joke u tried leaving was sad more so didnt make sense
@tach69 C'mon maggot ... "Nigga" comes from "Nigger" which is essentially black vernacular for the word nigger ... so blacks are calling each other nigger since "Nigga" has no dictionary definition differentiating it from Nigger and the term is generally associated with the former "Nigger." So perhaps you need to work on your logic skills shit "fo" (there's black vernacular) brains!lol
As for Snipes he did make the comment referred to in Jungle Fever and you did say you're mixed ... LOL
@qlaw04 I'm African-American and choose not to use the word. By that same token, you have to understand that while the word is negative under any circumstance, it conjures up sentiments of an experience of struggle and persecution that links us as Blacks. Like how grunt links soldiers in the military. That is why Black people use it as an endearing term at times. White people have never used the word in any other fashion but to degrade and dehumanize others, which is where the difference occurs.
@twinkiefoot So ... white people with an afinity for black culture or who are sympathetic can't join the club eh? Wow hardly "Peace and Reconciliation."
But far from a term of endearment sometimes the word has been used by blacks while insulting each other, while in heated confrontations hence its use is not always that "Catholic" even by blacks...
@qlaw04 No, white people "can't join the club," because no amount of "affinity" can ever allow someone to fully understand what it means to be Black in America or the full scope of the struggle that has brought us to this point. This isn't about creating or peptuating some divide between races but moreso in part, how we deal with the circumstances of our present.
And TY for the "briefing" there but I know a little something about the usages of the word. Insult or not there is a underlying link
@twinkiefoot " This isn't about creating or peptuating some divide between races but moreso in part, how we deal with the circumstances of our present."
But nevertheless it DOES lead to a clear divide ... some can, some can't! FACT!
@Tritano Are you twinkiefoot's public affairs officer, official, spokesman or lawyer? His lawyer??? Then I object on the grounds of calls for speculation. You can't possibly know what "twinkiefoot" meant when he said what he said. Let him come here and testify, its not for you to sort out his thoughts!
@qlaw04 I am not, nor did I intimate that I was, representation for twinkiefoot. If it pleases the court I'd also like to establish that I did not attempt 2 "sort out" twinkiefoot's thoughts. Notwithstanding qlaw04's accusations. What I did do, however, was point out that qlaw04's statement "...white people with an "affinity" 4 black culture or who are sympathetic can't join the club eh?" was unfounded and not even a remote reconstruction of the sentiments twinkiefoot quite plainly expressed.
@Tritano Trying to state what is an accurate construction of someone else's sentiments IS speculation which this and no other court would allow you to do since only the emoter can speak to his or her own sentiments. Hence it is STILL speculation.
What you need to do is pick up his argument and frame it in your own words.
@qlaw04 your research is lacking therefore allow me to impart revelation which shall adjourn this session once and for all. I defended twinkiefoot because you asserted "So ... white people with an "affinity" for black culture or who are sympathetic can't join the club eh?" was his sentiment when in fact it was your pejorative. You're blameworthy! Do not misunderstand. It was your speculation that I prevailed against and no court in the land, particularly this one, should advise me otherwise.
@Tritano Your defense of twinkiefoot would have been ruled out as speculation in ANY common law courtroom because you were attempting to relay his sentiment. NOBODY can speak to the sentiment of another through their own words! That , is speculation.
All I did was ask a question. Questions are not speculation because they don't perport to hold a belief that the utterer cannot cofirm himself, unless he includes a speculative statement in the question itself.
@qlaw04 I have to admit when I went to my mailbox and saw that you had replied yet again, I smiled :-) of course I knew you would. So I went back and read all of the statements, twinkiefoot's included, and hereby acquiesce. You are right. I defended against what I felt was a misrepresentation of said sentiments and thereby made speculation. I will, therefore, think over the debate and assert my own opinion in my next post.
@Tritano Well yeah, my only point was that speaking to what you think someone else thought when they said something is speculation. I've had this explained to me over and over. That's why we usually ask the question of someone "what were you thinking" in relation to their spoken or published words.
@qlaw04 Etymology: Latin root "Niger"/black color. Romance languages derived it: negro, noir, etc. In 20th Century English vernacular and before it was a derogatory noun for Africans & Black people used by Whites. Since then, as Dr. Peterson explained, Black culture, particularly youth, has transformed it to a less hurtful adjective. Frankly, I think it's a ridiculous debate. White people shouldn't want to use it. Black people have a right to it, but all Americans have the right to speak....
@qlaw04 I think there is an unwritten caveat to the 1st Amendment which impresses that although Americans possess the freedom to speak without censorship or limitation, it is limited when such speech imposes upon another citizens unalienable right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness as guaranteed by the Declaration of Independence. I feel that White usage is an affront and should not be used in my presence or the presence of other Blacks or people of African descent. Thoughts?
@Tritano " I feel that White usage is an affront and should not be used in my presence or the presence of other Blacks or people of African descent. Thoughts?"
You just lost the argument when you commenced "I feel". You feel, I feel is the reason we have a first ammendment and the reason why nearly all attempts of censorship certainly attempts at censoring spoken words lose in court. "You feel" gives you the right to expression, not denial of another person's expression.
@Tritano That means that even if " I feel that White usage is an affront and should not be used in my presence or the presence of other Blacks or people of African descent. Thoughts?" A white person cannot be barred legally from using the word. Nor should he be.
In the adult word of the "market of ideas" we shun people like the Don Imuses and the Dr. Lauras "who I mostly agree with".
We as a society are too intelligent and more importantly too free to ban their speech.
@qlaw04 Semantics my cyber-compatriot. My point is blacks and whites have the same rights. As progressives and civil human beings we should make different choices. Are you a lawyer? I live in Tokyo. Been in Asia for 4 years. In Japanese there's really no word 4 racism. Its a homogeneous culture. But the concept of degrading people for color is virtually incomprehensible. We should all behave like our Eastern counterparts, judge people based solely on their class :-) Nice back n forth, Thx!
Like wise! Yes semantics. And yes people should strive to make different choices. The only problem therein is is that the choices will be different, and putting value on what is correct, more correct etc always depends on who you ask. Lawyer no. Studied law why yes. Its kinda like having a 3 year "Logic and Rhetoric" class, kinda like the ones you do at elite universities like Columbia and Harvard.
@qlaw04 Afraid of outsiders is a truer. I meet people from every sector of business and the prevailing opinion is that Japan needs diversity. Fact is the population is aging faster than its procreating. In 20 years most people will be retired. "Gaijin" will be the only solution to compensate for the lack. Japanese are polite and young people don't resist change. They embrace foreign influences (*Hip-Hop is huge. The N-word is familiar). I did an MFA in Boston but the JD probably pays better, no?
@Tritano Yes the JD gets you into more corporate doors as the MFA is more specifically tailored and once into an organization based on your MFA, your lateral choices are more limited.
Yes Japan DOES need diversity. They seem to think that because the island relatively speaking is crowded that they don't need more people. So wrong.
@qlaw04 Furthermore, why would any white person want to try and somehow gain "affinity" or a better understanding of the African American community using that word when it would instantly bring into question his/her intentions? There are so many other things that we as Americans share, that I doubt the use of this word would help highlight.
@twinkiefoot Well some apparently do ... have in the same way you all or members of the black community try to gain entrance into maintsream "white" society. If we all of a sudden said "no go beyond this door ...." then we're back at Jin Crow at least at a cultural level. Any kind of "you can't go there..." perpetuates the divide no matter how well intentioned!
@qlaw04 well seeing as twinkie schooled u alread no sense in repeating the facts he stated to u 2nd i was promoted from maggot to swab thank u vary much 3rd regardless as i remember sayin about Jungle Fever movie u should relook the comment cause ur a moron to take after a movie, Stupid Greasers
Movie comments ... well you know they are words, and because said in a movie, said statements might very well have meaning as they might have very well originated elsewhere... Oh burn .... your stupidity is surfacing.
Yep, I quoted Jungle Fever, not to make a point but in jest, but seeing how you're a retard, you don't get it!
@qlaw04 and dont act like ur stupid ass didnt get busted out just cause someone beat me to the punch to prove ur a fucking idiot that dont know shit about shit u racist limp dick pussy ass bitch, U look like a fuckin MORON & got caught & made a fool of, now ur tryin to forget that that didnt happen u stupid bitch
@qlaw04 actually u dumb fuckin idiot, it had nothing to do with being offended u moron, try actually looking at ur dumbass comment u fucking retard u said blacks call each other that & u were talking out ur stupid ass, & got corrected so quit tryin to change shit up u fuckin limp dick dumbass moron
@qlaw04 UR like a dog that has shit on the carpet but he doesnt know its bad so u have to be told that ur a bad stupid stupid dog, then I'd have to rub ur face in the shit as ur being told that ur a bad stupid dog u stupid fucking peice of shit ur a stupid stupid fucking bad dog!
@qlaw04 what the hell is that suppose to even mean? At least I was funny, but u seem to seap stupidity on top of stupidity. U should get a more vast vernacular, maybe then u could put up a fight for ur moronic brain cells that bleed stupid like LSD all over
@tach69 Just to bring your late and stupid ass into the fold, lets make a point of the Jungle Fever comment ... "mixed nuts."
What Wesley may have flippantly been referring to is the ambiguous racial/ethnic identity that mixed race people attempt to take on in American society where racial and increasingly ethnic identity is very strong.
That mixed race people have trouble fitting in anywhere and end up acting "strange" due to their cultural ambiguity! Enough for you son?
@qlaw04 no u fucking moron u dont get it, ur ass got school before I could get to u so now u want to jump on the movie thing cause ur a lame ass loser thats why u fucking moron, god u are one stupid son of a bitch
@qlaw04 wow ur a fucking idiot the more u talk the more u ramble on about stupidness, not to mention u have no fucking idiea what the fuck ur talking about. Remember it started over ur DUMBASS saying that blacks call each other nigger then when ur stupid ass got busted out, u try in reword the shit thinking u know what the hell ur talking about & u dont, u try sayin u KNOW ebonics & u dont know shit u fucking moron quit tryin 2 make ur ignorant ass sound right cause ur not U fucking dumbass!
@unvanquishableone you don't have to use profanity to get my attention. why are you so irritable? it was a simple question about your comment "race is an "exuse" (you misspelled that) for blacks to hate to kill and to fail." i simply wanted to know what your reasoning is for all of the hatred, murders and failures of white people who, according to U.S. Census information and archives upon archives of historical documentation, do all in significantly larger numbers, that's all.
Why does Fox new always bring DUMB black people on to defend a position. Also, WHY does no one ever mention the absolute double standard in the US. Blacks say Nigga ( NOT NIGGER!), Whites say honkey or cracker or trailer park trash, gays say fag or faggot, women say bitch, heavy people say FAT, asians say Chink, latins say wetback.... ECT...............Why then is all the attention always on black people? I just dont get it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,we arent even the #1 minority anymore lol lol
@atltallone907 where as u r correct, side note a crack use to be known as a musician from Georga but somehow got turned into something bad, but yeah I feel what ur sayin, cant speak for fox cause only the devil does that, but I think racist just love to beat a dead horse to death & cant let go ie some idiots on here who want to drop the N word weirdly though, Im noticing that racist like to troll anything on here to do with race hell I even found them on a Malcom X vid bunch of idiots
@atltallone907 DR. James Peterson isn't dumb. The man owns a PhD and has been a Professor at Princeton and Harvard. He also created an academic initiative at Harvard University to study the Black community in terms of linguistic identity and hip hop culture. He's there because he's qualified to comment on the topic and his opinions were superlative.
do white peolpe want to use the word that badly that they are mad to hear a black person say the word. white people just do what you have been doing and say it in the privacy of your own home.
It's funny how fox news edited, the part when Whoopi said how her mother couldn't vote in the country she was born in.And it is true that we live in different world our experiences are different. Leave it 2 fox news 2 be fair & balance......watch the whole!
I think the problem with discrimination and racism is people's refusal to let the past go but still acknowledge that it happened. I know history has not been kind to the the Blacks, Latinos, Asians, Native Americans etc. But I really think if white people would stop living in ignorance and acknowledge the past, then we could all move forward, together
@stefers08 I think your partially right, but white America including Elisabeth, should realize that blk people and all people of color are still being treated unfairly today. You may not see them hanging from trees but you also rarely see them CEO or holding high positions anywhere. And I don’t believe that Elizabeth really cares about the welfare of blk community. She is friends with racist white people.
Why, is the supposed "land of the free" STILL having such a problem with racism?
I'm not saying the UK is free from racism from seriously white America, why are you still trying to be better? It's not fair, It's not right and you need to stop.
Wow, James Peterson hit it right on, he absolutely had the best argument. But, of course, they had to give someone else, the last word hoping the people would forget what Peterson said .
CoHoIoNoK NoIoGoGoEoR CoRoAoCoKoEoR Can't YOU SEE WE'RE LIKE AN OREO! WE AIN'T GOT NOTHING WITHOUT EACH OTHA MA BROTHAS anD SISTAS! PLEASE LETS DUNK OUR SELFS IN SOME CREAMY WHITE MILK AND ENJOY OUR CHOCOLATE COVAED ASIAN CREAM GOODNESS.
I hate how some whites try to act like they understand racism. Whites will never understand racism. To me, she seems like she's crying about the fact that SHE can't use the word.
honestly, people who are supposedly "victims" of racism is a bunch of crock! look at EVERY black rap artist! they talk and bring it up more than anyone i know! that's all they rap about! the "N" word is acctually defind as "ignorant" according to an old MLK book i read in high school. Ask any black person who they voted for and why? 90% will probably say OBOMA B/c he's black! BULLSHIT!
It's actually difficult for us to stop using it. It's ingrained. We are trained to think of ourselves as nigas. 30 years ago--you could be killed if someone white thought you though otherwise
We are thought of by the government of 1/4th a person. Less than a dog.Not even human. When you call us that..that is what you are saying
HELL NO...you can't use it. We dont' mean it in that context. Because it's a part of us. We changed it. We can say. You can't
@turquoise770 though oddly enough that also depends on if one imbues it with meaning...cause in my life i would say it had no power whatsoever...whereas nigger, from a black, white, or a purple person does have a strong meaning to me.
@ForgottenLove896 it is used as a swear word on the streets, grocery stores, esp around new york, n.j. but so is the word nigger bandied about--that's not what i'm talking about--rather in a formal setting, or broadcast talkshow, etc. where the speakers have some clout--those words, depending on who says them and in what context can cause a furor.
What the fuck man... "what if one of the white hosts had said the word?" What reason other than racism would they have to use the word???
The fact is, is that any group that has not experienced racism cannot understand it. I don't think the word should be used at all...however I'm not going to argue for the rights of Whites to use the word too. This is a stupid debate indeed. I don't know why these people got all butt hurt on this topic.
I think it's ridiculous how fox news has atleast 1 uncle tom on each and every show on the network to just try and be-little other black people that come on the show and disagree with fox news.
white people invented the word so of course whites shouldn't say it in anyway

People are fucking morons.
depletable 2 months ago
The term "niggerhead" was once widely used for all sorts of things, including products such as soap and chewing tobacco, but most often for geographic features such as hills and rocks and geological objects.
The 5 DUMMIES on the view don't know this, how stupid are they?
I was about to write but can't say the S word because the N word proceeds it, so then the G word came to mind so I paused a moment because it reminded me of the T word so I said F it, I'll just be an A H if I continue!

Tools.

JayJ004 9 months ago 2

To tell the truth, you have no class!
foreverinchrist1 9 months ago
@foreverinchrist1 as a fellow black person, ive come to the realization that there are two distinctly diff arguments (amongst black ppl only) ab this issue. either we use it and defend it as hate speech turned into a term of endearment, or we vehemently denounce it and those who say it as ignorant and hypocritical.. we, as an entire ppl, have to come to an agreement and define this word for ourselves before we can have this conversation with another race.
dbfro1 9 months ago
@dbfro1 We as a people? Well! I think the word has it's own definition, it has already been defined. Why waste time in trying to define a word to suite our purpose within our circle, and then resort back to it's true meaning when someone else who is not our race uses the same term? How do you justify your reasoning?
foreverinchrist1 9 months ago
@foreverinchrist1 u have ur stance on the word and u feel, evidently, very strong ab it. and there are ppl with ur same skin complexion who feel jus as strongly. the only diff is u want it revoked from the english lexicon, and they dont. which is why i said what i said. For the conversation ab "nigger" to be legitimately had between the races, blacks should first agree on what the word itself means to us. thats all, i honestly want it to mean the same if a white person or a black person says it.
dbfro1 9 months ago
@foreverinchrist1 i dont want there to be separate rules for separate races...i think that is BS. the only thing that matters is context. if a black person calls me nigga and the context surrounding it is that he/she is trying to be hateful or venemous towards me, i will be jus as offended as if a white person called me nigger. theres no double standard. everyone is accountable, but it starts with us first.
dbfro1 9 months ago
@dbfro1 I must disagree! If anyone called me a nigger I would be affended regardless, race has no bearing!
There is only one meaning for the this word, and to say that black people has a monopoly on this word is ridiculous. You must remember, it was not blacks who imployed this word. It was the white race. So now we have adopted this word as if it belongs to us. So now we have accepted the N word, and feel like it's now ok to use it towards each other, there is no harm done.
foreverinchrist1 9 months ago
@foreverinchrist1 i think i may have miscommunicated.. all im saying is that there is ur view, which is widely held by a large number of african americans, and then theres my view, which is held by an equally large number of african americans. im not trying to justify the usage of the word, its jus hard to have a racial discussion ab it when we cant even agree on the word ourselves..and i know the history of the word, obviously it began with whites but was transformed by blacks to mean something
dbfro1 9 months ago
@foreverinchrist1 completely different, as it is in our culture to do so. taking the scraps that was given to us, and turning them into culture/art/beauty etc etc.
dbfro1 9 months ago
@dbfro1 There is nothing or ever will be anything beautiful about the N word! How do you defend such rhetoric? You say it was given to us! Well! I think we just started using this out of anger and fear towards each other. It is simply the "THUG" Mentality that has come to simbolize our black culture.
foreverinchrist1 9 months ago
@foreverinchrist1 u seem to be unable to comprehend my point.. i didnt equate the n word with beauty, but instead i merely stated the strength of african american culture to take something negative and turn it into something positive. it is not important whether i "defend such rhetoric" bc this isnt ab me, or ab you, its ab black ppl as a whole being able to agree on what the word means to us. for a lot of african americans, it is negative, and for lot of african americans, it is positive.
dbfro1 9 months ago
@dbfro1 I do understand your point. If what you say is true, then what I am saying my friend, there is no need for to be offended when some other culture uses the same word regardless. We need to stop complaining and go on with life.
foreverinchrist1 9 months ago
@foreverinchrist1 amen. i agree with u on that. i, personally, take no offense to the word bc i refuse to let one noun have such a dramatic effect on me. life is too short. God bless.
dbfro1 9 months ago
@foreverinchrist1 i think ur way off when u say its simply bc of the 'thug' mentality that the n word is so popular. it is used by old and young, educated and uneducated, by criminals and by productive members of society. the usage of the word among blacks is not held by one specific demographic of black ppl. its bigger than jus ignorant youths with a limited vocab. and, on the flip side, it is also vehemently denounced by blacks across all age groups, socioeconomic backgrounds, etc etc.
dbfro1 9 months ago
If I may paraphase someone by the name of Time Wise (who by the way is white). This is a conservation that should be had within our demographic being black people. There's not a white person on this planet that can help me or any other black person use or not use the word.

You're too blind to see it because you're too busy calling Black people racist for pointing out racism (which is some dumb shit btw).
strtthshw 1 year ago
No matter what changes are made that word is always going to have a negative undertone because that's what it came from. I think we should equally have more respect towards old wounds and not use that term at all to describe African Americans, no matter the context or change the word comes from negativity and lack of understanding one another, we should strive and be above the word entirely this is just my opinion.

MrHoustonlina 1 year ago
@PopCulture20 So the use of the N word by blacks or whites is NOT the same thing and it will never be because as much as we may wish it, history cannot be erased. Now I do agree that the N word when used in gangster rap and when thrown around with no purpose is pretty frustrating, but when used by a black person such as Nas was in order to speak about history and struggle is not digging up the past but simply acknowledging something that happened. It's similar to when Jews mention the holocaust
MrHoustonlina 1 year ago
@MrHoustonlina I'm not saying forget history because I love learning about black history in my spare time. My issue here is that blacks persist on using history to tear their fellow blacks down just because they're insecure about making ends meet so how can blacks live in the same world with each other when more and more blacks prefer to live in the same world with whites all because their fellow blacks don't wanna see them amount to anything? Can you explain that?

... I don't think that the word should be a swear, however I do feel that black people should lay off on its use. I think the fact that white people hear black people say it so often is why they are puzzled by their ban of its use. Me as a black person, I don't chose to use it, not because I believe it should be a forbidden word, just because it almost never occurs to me to say it.
rainey53 1 year ago
...You almost never hear the words wetback and spick to refer to hispanic people anymore; I've gone through 25 years before I even knew that Kike refered to Jewish people. It's because these words no longer have meaning; they've lost their power. Nigga/er still lives on because too many black people use it too often in common conversation and it is my opinion that I often assume that those who use it frequently are low class, uninteligent, and are, for a lack of a better term, niggas...
rainey53 1 year ago
...I think the comment on Nas's use of the word was a good one, a good example of a black figure using the word to shed light on a subject and to teach about black history and experience, however more than most of the time that the N-Word is uttered it is for frivolous reasons. You don't hear gay men running around calling each other fag this and homo that, nor do you hear white people calling each other cracker...
rainey53 1 year ago
I think the reason that the use of nigga/er is still a current subject today is because of its flagrant use. The host brought up the fact that gays took back the Q-Word and I've often heard gay men refer to themselves as "fags" however we don't hear other slurs used by the groups that they once oppress as often as we hear the N-Word...
rainey53 1 year ago
@rainey53 I may not hear whites use the word cracker that much but I do hear whites refer to each as white trash and other slurs. jeff foxworthy made a career calling other whites redneck, and described them as trailer trash. And whites even call each other that in politics.

@tach69 You don't hear blacks referring to themselves as nigger? In America? You must be the dullest, least observant mixed race MOFO in America ... What did Wesley Snipes say about mixed race children in "Jungle Fever..." No mixed race children for me they come out like a "bunch of mixed nuts...." LOL
qlaw04 1 year ago
@qlaw04 wow ur one of the dumbest ppl on the planet & heres why NO U idiot u dont hear black ppl in America saying that u moron U may hear NIGGA theirs a difference u stupid idiot 2nd if u seriously are taking something Wesley Fucking Snipes said in a movie then ur a fucking idiot as youve proven to add insult to injury ur actually stupid enough to take a fictitious movie to heart then ur a bigger moron then a thought 3rd the attempted racist joke u tried leaving was sad more so didnt make sense
tach69 1 year ago
@tach69 C'mon maggot ... "Nigga" comes from "Nigger" which is essentially black vernacular for the word nigger ... so blacks are calling each other nigger since "Nigga" has no dictionary definition differentiating it from Nigger and the term is generally associated with the former "Nigger." So perhaps you need to work on your logic skills shit "fo" (there's black vernacular) brains!lol
As for Snipes he did make the comment referred to in Jungle Fever and you did say you're mixed ... LOL
qlaw04 1 year ago
@qlaw04 I'm African-American and choose not to use the word. By that same token, you have to understand that while the word is negative under any circumstance, it conjures up sentiments of an experience of struggle and persecution that links us as Blacks. Like how grunt links soldiers in the military. That is why Black people use it as an endearing term at times. White people have never used the word in any other fashion but to degrade and dehumanize others, which is where the difference occurs.
twinkiefoot 1 year ago
@twinkiefoot So ... white people with an afinity for black culture or who are sympathetic can't join the club eh? Wow hardly "Peace and Reconciliation."
But far from a term of endearment sometimes the word has been used by blacks while insulting each other, while in heated confrontations hence its use is not always that "Catholic" even by blacks...
qlaw04 1 year ago
@qlaw04 No, white people "can't join the club," because no amount of "affinity" can ever allow someone to fully understand what it means to be Black in America or the full scope of the struggle that has brought us to this point. This isn't about creating or peptuating some divide between races but moreso in part, how we deal with the circumstances of our present.
And TY for the "briefing" there but I know a little something about the usages of the word. Insult or not there is a underlying link
twinkiefoot 1 year ago
@twinkiefoot " This isn't about creating or peptuating some divide between races but moreso in part, how we deal with the circumstances of our present."
But nevertheless it DOES lead to a clear divide ... some can, some can't! FACT!
qlaw04 1 year ago
@qlaw04 twinkiefoot never said that
Tritano 1 year ago
@Tritano Are you twinkiefoot's public affairs officer, official, spokesman or lawyer? His lawyer??? Then I object on the grounds of calls for speculation. You can't possibly know what "twinkiefoot" meant when he said what he said. Let him come here and testify, its not for you to sort out his thoughts!
qlaw04 1 year ago
@qlaw04 I am not, nor did I intimate that I was, representation for twinkiefoot. If it pleases the court I'd also like to establish that I did not attempt 2 "sort out" twinkiefoot's thoughts. Notwithstanding qlaw04's accusations. What I did do, however, was point out that qlaw04's statement "...white people with an "affinity" 4 black culture or who are sympathetic can't join the club eh?" was unfounded and not even a remote reconstruction of the sentiments twinkiefoot quite plainly expressed.
Tritano 1 year ago
@Tritano Trying to state what is an accurate construction of someone else's sentiments IS speculation which this and no other court would allow you to do since only the emoter can speak to his or her own sentiments. Hence it is STILL speculation.
What you need to do is pick up his argument and frame it in your own words.
qlaw04 1 year ago
@qlaw04 your research is lacking therefore allow me to impart revelation which shall adjourn this session once and for all. I defended twinkiefoot because you asserted "So ... white people with an "affinity" for black culture or who are sympathetic can't join the club eh?" was his sentiment when in fact it was your pejorative. You're blameworthy! Do not misunderstand. It was your speculation that I prevailed against and no court in the land, particularly this one, should advise me otherwise.
Tritano 1 year ago
@Tritano Your defense of twinkiefoot would have been ruled out as speculation in ANY common law courtroom because you were attempting to relay his sentiment. NOBODY can speak to the sentiment of another through their own words! That , is speculation.
All I did was ask a question. Questions are not speculation because they don't perport to hold a belief that the utterer cannot cofirm himself, unless he includes a speculative statement in the question itself.
qlaw04 1 year ago
@qlaw04 I have to admit when I went to my mailbox and saw that you had replied yet again, I smiled :-) of course I knew you would. So I went back and read all of the statements, twinkiefoot's included, and hereby acquiesce. You are right. I defended against what I felt was a misrepresentation of said sentiments and thereby made speculation. I will, therefore, think over the debate and assert my own opinion in my next post.
Tritano 1 year ago
@Tritano Well yeah, my only point was that speaking to what you think someone else thought when they said something is speculation. I've had this explained to me over and over. That's why we usually ask the question of someone "what were you thinking" in relation to their spoken or published words.
qlaw04 1 year ago
@qlaw04 Etymology: Latin root "Niger"/black color. Romance languages derived it: negro, noir, etc. In 20th Century English vernacular and before it was a derogatory noun for Africans & Black people used by Whites. Since then, as Dr. Peterson explained, Black culture, particularly youth, has transformed it to a less hurtful adjective. Frankly, I think it's a ridiculous debate. White people shouldn't want to use it. Black people have a right to it, but all Americans have the right to speak....
Tritano 1 year ago

@Tritano I too think the debate, the word and hence any offense taken by use of the word is rediculous ... this being 2010.
" Black people have a right to it, but all Americans have the right to speak...."
Couldn't agree more.
qlaw04 1 year ago
@qlaw04 I think there is an unwritten caveat to the 1st Amendment which impresses that although Americans possess the freedom to speak without censorship or limitation, it is limited when such speech imposes upon another citizens unalienable right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness as guaranteed by the Declaration of Independence. I feel that White usage is an affront and should not be used in my presence or the presence of other Blacks or people of African descent. Thoughts?
Tritano 1 year ago
@Tritano " I feel that White usage is an affront and should not be used in my presence or the presence of other Blacks or people of African descent. Thoughts?"
You just lost the argument when you commenced "I feel". You feel, I feel is the reason we have a first ammendment and the reason why nearly all attempts of censorship certainly attempts at censoring spoken words lose in court. "You feel" gives you the right to expression, not denial of another person's expression.
qlaw04 1 year ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@Tritano That means that even if " I feel that White usage is an affront and should not be used in my presence or the presence of other Blacks or people of African descent. Thoughts?" A white person cannot be barred legally from using the word. Nor should he be.
In the adult word of the "market of ideas" we shun people like the Don Imuses and the Dr. Lauras "who I mostly agree with".
We as a society are too intelligent and more importantly too free to ban their speech.
qlaw04 1 year ago
@qlaw04 Semantics my cyber-compatriot. My point is blacks and whites have the same rights. As progressives and civil human beings we should make different choices. Are you a lawyer? I live in Tokyo. Been in Asia for 4 years. In Japanese there's really no word 4 racism. Its a homogeneous culture. But the concept of degrading people for color is virtually incomprehensible. We should all behave like our Eastern counterparts, judge people based solely on their class :-) Nice back n forth, Thx!
Tritano 1 year ago
@Tritano Nice back n forth,
Japan? I thought they hated outsiders?
qlaw04 1 year ago
@qlaw04 Afraid of outsiders is a truer. I meet people from every sector of business and the prevailing opinion is that Japan needs diversity. Fact is the population is aging faster than its procreating. In 20 years most people will be retired. "Gaijin" will be the only solution to compensate for the lack. Japanese are polite and young people don't resist change. They embrace foreign influences (*Hip-Hop is huge. The N-word is familiar). I did an MFA in Boston but the JD probably pays better, no?
Tritano 1 year ago
@Tritano Yes the JD gets you into more corporate doors as the MFA is more specifically tailored and once into an organization based on your MFA, your lateral choices are more limited.
Yes Japan DOES need diversity. They seem to think that because the island relatively speaking is crowded that they don't need more people. So wrong.
qlaw04 1 year ago
@qlaw04 Furthermore, why would any white person want to try and somehow gain "affinity" or a better understanding of the African American community using that word when it would instantly bring into question his/her intentions? There are so many other things that we as Americans share, that I doubt the use of this word would help highlight.
twinkiefoot 1 year ago
@twinkiefoot Well some apparently do ... have in the same way you all or members of the black community try to gain entrance into maintsream "white" society. If we all of a sudden said "no go beyond this door ...." then we're back at Jin Crow at least at a cultural level. Any kind of "you can't go there..." perpetuates the divide no matter how well intentioned!

@atltallone907 DR. James Peterson isn't dumb. The man owns a PhD and has been a Professor at Princeton and Harvard. I think the problem with discrimination and racism is people's refusal to let the past go but still acknowledge that it happened. I know history has not been kind to the the Blacks, Latinos, Asians, Native Americans etc. But I really think if white people would stop living in ignorance and acknowledge the past, then we could all move forward, together
stefers08 1 year ago
@stefers08 I think your partially right, but white America including Elisabeth, should realize that blk people and all people of color are still being treated unfairly today. You may not see them hanging from trees but you also rarely see them CEO or holding high positions anywhere. And I don’t believe that Elizabeth really cares about the welfare of blk community. She is friends with racist white people.

We can say. You can't
