@K2ACP i agree with you. im getting one for college because of their durability of their aluminum unibody that the whole computer is made out of (a feature that almost no other computer has) and the unbelievable 10 hr battery. sure its more under powered than the hp im using now but i have to admit that macs are long term pc's... proves that you get what you pay for.

Honestly. Go look for a dv7 in a Best Buy or really anywhere and find a non-craptastic model under 700 dollars. I call BS on this one. you are right! I do have a mac and use windows7 on it....but I still find apple hardware much more reliable than any PC brand. Statistics show that a mac machine runs windows 10X much smoother and faster than any PC brand ;D thats why I picked a mac machine vs a PC because it runs windows 7 much MUCH smoother
They don't all get the same PC. I think only one pc is mentioned twice, the HP HDX. This is a Dv7, there's one with a Dv6, a Dell XPS and a Sony Vaio. I haven't seen any more.

Even if OS X was more popular, I still doubt we'd ever see real viruses, we'd just keep seeing trojans, which would eventually be detected by the built in malware detector (Snow Leopard) and which are easy to avoid. And can't even pass the admin authorization screen. Never nearly as many as on Windows. OS X still more secure.

It also can't run Windows or Snow Leopard, and it lacks the 'new' status. Other than that, it probably would do everything these tech-illiterate folks would need. The trouble would be that they would have to look for one online, as it's doubtful they'd find it at Fry's or Best Buy. They would have to expend extra effort going out of their way - and out of free money from Microsoft - to get one.
They could then get a 2nd generation Macbook; it has the intel processor, and can thus run Boot Camp, and Snow Leopard. And you could be able to get one from the online apple store.
As the for the microsoft money: I'll take it instead. :D
Still requires going out of their way just to specifically spite Microsoft, as there would be few other conceivable reasons to refuse the offer for the commercial.

@K2ACP hmm i dont think so... hps are second to dells. and macbooks are more about looks than power and speed, i admit they are beautiful laptops only because they are more about aesthetics than actual funtionality; they are mostly used by people who dont even know what a gigabyte is and just use it to surf the web. i got my hp with twice the power of a macbook pro for 600$ less the only thing i dont like is the absence of an aluminum unibody. every thing has a luxury and the Macintosh is.

@txprodigy95 i think that it is possible to get a more awesome looking pc than a mac. so, i don't think it's ALL about looks. yes, macintoshes are a tad expensive, i can work with that. i think it's worth it, personally. macs have the lowest failure, not a shitload of viruses. i have to disagree with the functionality part, they are built with functionality first, aesthetics second (of course that changes with iphone 4 -.-) i also have an hp laptop, and it's crap, the capslock light doesnt work

@K2ACP i agree with you. im getting one for college because of their durability of their aluminum unibody that the whole computer is made out of (a feature that almost no other computer has) and the unbelievable 10 hr battery. sure its more under powered than the hp im using now but i have to admit that macs are long term pc's... proves that you get what you pay for.

the hp dv7 is $789.99 at hp.com(then there is shipping), leaving this a smidge out of accuracy.
but with 17" inches of HD, 500GB of 7200rpm space, and 512 mb of discrete graphics this is still a great deal.

Honestly. Go look for a dv7 in a Best Buy or really anywhere and find a non-craptastic model under 700 dollars. I call BS on this one. In stores and even on the Best-Buy website, their basic dv7 -starts- at 779.99 - only goes up from there. Maybe you dopes can trick some sad fool who doesn't know better than to check sources. All this ad campaign is, is joint cooperation between Microsoft, BestBuy, and HP and they can't even help but not lie about their own prices. Fail.

There is no drivers for them. Why do you think they locked you into Final cut? Because most editing software doesnt work on a mac. People say its illegal but ive had friends go into mac stores with them to be jack asses and all they say is they cant help him. Even know there was nothing wrong, my friends just like to do that.

I have used both OSx and snow lepoard and i still think windows 7 is more user friendly...
But both brands are still very good but you can get a PC thats the same processor, RAM, hard drive,ect... for a lot less....

Most of the time they aren't the same. You think those Best Buy employees explain the differences between DDR2 and DDR3 memory? Or 5400 rpm vs 7200rpm? No, of course not, they just want to sell as many computers as possible. And, lets not forget, if Best Buy sells a PC they can also sell "Geek Squad" protection, too. They love selling PCs because when people get a virus they get money to remove it. It like they sell the cake and get to eat it too.

yes i actually have used snow lepoard. i have plenty of times. ive worked using them too. and i still find win7 better, and you can do way more it. the home group feature is awsome. and the new task bar mops the floor with the dock. not only that win7 is faster and more snappy. no wonder alot of macbook user including one of my friends is considering using the boot camp setting on mac. considering win7 costs more than snow lepoard i dont see how its forced down people throats. excuses excuses

They don't all get the same PC. I think only one pc is mentioned twice, the HP HDX. This is a Dv7, there's one with a Dv6, a Dell XPS and a Sony Vaio. I haven't seen any more.
HP and Dell combined account for 1/3rd of all laptops sold, it's not surprising they appear more often.

OS X is not ahead of Windows as far as security is concerned. OS X's default setting for the firewall is to allow all incoming connections! Mac OS is a real soft target, users of it are just fortunate that nobody else cares enough to exploit its flaws.

-There are millions of malware for Windows. Less than 50 for Mac, they're all trojans, very easy to spot and remove.
-Your theory is flawed. Mac OS 9 had a much smaller market share and yet had got hundreds of malware. So the "no care" thingy is just stupid and meaningless.

OS X is only just as advanced as Windows, and solely because Apple recycled earlier technologies that weren't even developed by them. Without NEXTSTEP/Mach, Macintosh would still be doing cooperative multitasking. And the users would still be pretending to enjoy it.

I wouldn't call the Unix-derived features of OS X more advanced that Windows. More robust, surely, but not necessarily advanced (I use and develop for Linux myself, so I'm familiar with both Unix-like and Windows NT system fundamentals) . They are two completely different platforms in that respect. Unfortunately, Apple traded much of the security provided by those underpinnings for ease of use. If OS X was more popular, users would be in great danger from malware.

I don't agree. OS X provides both security and ease of use. Apple's been a little slow on updates because there really isn't much of a threat right now.
Even if OS X was more popular, I still doubt we'd ever see real viruses, we'd just keep seeing trojans, which would eventually be detected by the built in malware detector (Snow Leopard) and which are easy to avoid. And can't even pass the admin authorization screen. Never nearly as many as on Windows. OS X still more secure.

People better stop saying "you can buy a mac mini for less then $700" Did you even read the title of the video its called "LAPTOP hunters" not PC hunters. Not to mention if you buy a mac mini you still have to buy a screen, mouse and a keyboard before its actually a working computer. Those parts alone put the Mac Mini buy well over $700.

@hunkashoo I know but still you had to pay for the screen, keyboard ect at one point or another. They are only free at this moment cuz you had already payed for them. But now you can only buy the base model mac mini for $700 plus tax. So in reality you can no longer buy any computer form apply for less than $700. Plus as i have said before this is laptop hunters not desktop hunter.

It also can't run Windows or Snow Leopard, and it lacks the 'new' status. Other than that, it probably would do everything these tech-illiterate folks would need. The trouble would be that they would have to look for one online, as it's doubtful they'd find it at Fry's or Best Buy. They would have to expend extra effort going out of their way - and out of free money from Microsoft - to get one.
