That's my brother-in-law, I was with him that day....broke the axle housing in half. Took us 3 hours to get him out, during which they tried a filed weld repair, which failed, then managed to tow him out with a TJ after another quick patch. Long Day, no alcohol involved prior, but there may have been some involved post.

grand cherokees never had a dana 44 in the front only a dana 30 front and 35 rear...a select few had aluminum 44s in the rear. the ONLY 44 front jeep has in any of the 90s on up is the wrangler rubicons

I could be mistaken,but that looks like a 93-95 ZJ ltd, if it's the 4.0 straight six it's possibly a Dana 30, i know my '94 5.2 is a Dana 35 though, broke my axle do something similar,difference is the pinion gear got all chewed up bringing everything to a halt. :/
