  • I still miss Mary so much. Even though this is a song where she doesn't have a solo, here mare presence just radiates. I got to see PP+M do this song at several of their holiday concerts.

  • すっげー好きvv

  • This is awesome! Thank you for performing this and sharing beautiful music with us for generations to come! Blessed be Peter, Paul & Mary

  • Today is "All souls Day" and I remember with gratitude all that Mary Travers brought us through her gift of music. Lord have mercy on her beloved soul - Rene

  • Good Lord Sting slaughtered this song...the Original Peter, Paul & Mary blows his away, hands down!

  • In 1966 I taught my fraternity this song, entered us in Greek Sing and went from last place in 65 to first Thank you PP&M Thank you for that and so so much more. Newport Folk festival early 60s every summer and so many other places I sat and listened in awe and knew I was in musical heaven. Mary now you are in heaven with choirs of angels. The tears I now cry are of joy for the half century of music we were all blessed with rest well Mary

  • sting destroyed this song!

  • Memories to die for - thanks.

  • my choir sung this last year, first time i herd it all the way through, i fell in love with it!

  • I love PPM

  • I miss Mary so much it hurts. It aches when I see her smile. I shouldn't be sad..... she sings with the angels now, contributing to their chorus....

  • No trio in the last 50 yeqars has equaled them for perfection of sound

  • @pbesmer well in that genre maybe, but King's X and Rush are two trio bands that have a surprisingly amazing full sound, and you forget they're a trio sometimes

  • The starting music of this song is copied in some other popular song, not remembering it right now, anyone know?

  • You just cannot beat PURE TALENT!!!!!

  • yee boy

  • miss you Mary

  • r.i.p. mary

  • my heart is heavy - rip Mary! Your music and talent and most definitely your essence and mission will be sorely missed! God bless you!

  • A friend met and married Mary after meeting her on the street in Manhattan... I have been with Paul over the years in work, philanthropy...

    Super trio... great memories.

    TY! Neal

  • PP&M was my first album. Their music formed my life in many instances. G-d bless Mary Travers and the fond continuing work of Peter and Paul. They have brought many tears to me over the years.

  • One of my favorite Christmas songs and PPM songs!

  • One of my favorite Christmas songs and PPM songs!

  • Perfect trio, the little Jewish guy, the tall Christian, and the wild woman who ran with the wolves. I love PPM!

  • How to lift a musical style beyond the realm of "just" folk music to something eternal.

  • The old English custom of "soul-caking," or "souling," originated in pre-Reformation days, when singers went about on All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, November 1 and 2, to beg for cakes in remembrance of the dead. This is a lovely version of a very old song.

  • I love this song- very haunting! I used to steal my parents records and vacate upstairs and listen all day!

  • my sisters and i sing this in rounds together - i love it!

  • They are using four mics....very rare very splendid. Great cheek bones on Mary...i will miss her

  • love the song but it really is hard to learn!

  • Thank you for Peter, Paul and Mary, especially Mary what a soul.

Sincerity of musicality that renders three, actually four counting the bass player, into one incredible singularity of beauty.......they were the best.

  • isn't it amazing the wonderful sound that can happen with 2 accustic guitars & harmonies. No fancy stuff just talent & blend different voices together. It is a lost art.

  • I can hardly look at Mary these days without tears coming to my eyes.

  • No one could possibly improve on this version of the song. It puts a smile on my face every time I hear it. "The streets are very dirty my shoes are very thin I have a little pocket to put a penny in." :)

  • One for Peter, One For Paul, One for Mary, bless'd us all

  • ah, No body's home is how i heard is as a child

  • Mary is the brightest star in the sky.

  • everything about mary is pure beauty

  • i was so pleased to find this song . all my life , christmas wasn't christmas unless i heard a'soalin' at least once on the radio during the holidays . i love peter , paul and mary - always have , always will .

  • the version that I can play is a bit different, but this one is still pretty good.

  • We miss you Mary... RIP and God Bless you always

  • In Japan, Japanese lyrics are put onto the last verse "Now to the lord..." and have become an independent hymn. So I hypothesized that this brain-staying tune was synthesized from two different traditional songs in UK, Ireland, or US.

  • This is the original "Soul Cake". Paul Stookey wrote it together with Tracey Batteast & Elena Mezetti, based on the English folk song Hey ho, nobody home. First released on Peter, Paul and Mary's second album, Moving (1963).

  • @kaarekjohnsen Interesting, parts of this song remind me of the German traditional folk song "He jo spann' den Wagen an". Probably totally unrelated, though...

  • @pianoman74 You are right! I does remind quite a bit of that German folk song. And I don't think it's improbable that they are related. (By the way, I find that the title is "Hejo, spann den Wagen an".)

  • my school's acapella group did this song, it sounded great

  • Such a beautiful song...

  • RIP Mary Travers... terribly missed, especially at this time of year. Love Peter Paul and Mary. They were truly an inspiration... not only to their generation, but for all of those to come.

  • i can play this (my grandma taught me how)

  • @jtstripes its a pretty easy song to play but it is fun and sounds really good

  • Thanks so much for uploading this for us.The guitar playing and their harmonies are amazing!

  • i miss mary .... RIP

  • I love this song so much. My dad taught me this song, and we sing it together every Christmas. But I know I'll never be able to do it as well as Mary did. RIP.

  • you can tell by looking at this, they were brothers and a sister. i miss mary.

  • tranurse, they are definately NOT brothers, Noel Paul Stookey and Peter Yarrow. After over 40 years as a trio they might as well be family though. We will all miss Mary Traverse.

  • brothers and sisters by choice. i know they aren't related by blood.

  • :) my college choir is doing this!

  • very,very good!But I like Sting's version,sorry about this ;)

  • don't be sorry, I love Sting, but this version,to me,is better, both are good

  • IMO This is a better version of Soul Cake. Sting says Soul Cake too many times in his version.

  • 'A Soul cake is a small round cake which is traditionally made for All Souls' Day to celebrate the dead'

  • I heard Sting sing this recently. I hadn't thought of it in many years. I love the Peter, Paul & Mary version.

  • Ah my lost youth .

    Happy days happy memories.

    Good stuff

  • Rest in peace Mary! Condolences to Peter and Paul.....her family and friends too

  • May you rest in peace Mary! Condolences to Peter and Paul!

  • In 1983, I proposed to Mary after a concert in Louisville. My wife had to spoil it all and tell Mary I was already hitched.

"Well, Big Al," said Mary, "Call me old fashioned, but I just don't date married guys." What an exuberant laugh she had. I will savor that moment and all the songs she still sings in my heart until it is my turn to cross to the other side.

  • I used to sing this in a choir. The christmas memories bring tears to my eyes. Beautiful song.

  • RIP Mary.... :'(

  • Love this song. It seems Christmasy to me.

  • It doesn't get any better than this.

The World will never be the same without Mary.

    Bless her Soul.

  • One of my favorite songs.

    Thank you.

  • God Bless you Mary Travers and rest in pace, we will miss you.

  • Glad you're back.

    You are a star.

    Excellent as usual.
