  • And to think that only 18 months ago i was resisting facebook because i thought it was just another app for kids.

  • i am still resisting facebook if it wasn't for all those apps it would be great.... although after watching this video it makes you think it may be worth putting up with all the application requests....

  • Superb video, social networking are definetely becoming more and more prevalent, and used to connect more and more people.

  • Great video. I think Tom Smith is right on track. Facebook would have to be the biggest social media network online that I have used and the amount of people I have gotten in touch with since using it is unbelievable!

  • Fascinating to think about the huge changes in the ways that people behave. What will things be link in 5 years time??!!

  • Social media indeed is the next best thing...seems an effective way to market your business.

  • Social Media is the new hot marketing tool. I promote it all my clients and they have gad some great results. i Can't wait to see what people come up next

  • The thing that I find amazing is just how fast these trends are moving!!

  • that struck me as well when you consider that in the US we are having the first proper YouTube / Facebook Presidential election!

  • I totally agree with Tom. Social networks are not only very effective but also very convenient. I am increasingly spending more time on a number of social networks and i urge businesses to consider the use of social media.

  • Social media is becoming something that will benefit businesses more and more if they do it correctly, its a really interesting topic.

  • Tom Makes a very valid point about taking the message to the social media, which is where most people seem to be these days. Social media definitely opens up a lot more avenues unlike stand alone websites. You can only reach that many people with a website but millions, if you are well connected to a few good networks. The possibilities become endless then.

  • Jitty Slitter makes a good point. It seems that from what Tom says, businesses should be utilising appropriate social networks and blogs (but in user friendly ways that don't spam or annoy people)to explore business opportunities since these seem to be where consumers are spending more time hanging out these days.

  • Don't forget you can win two prizes of US$250 of online vouchers (of your choosing) - all you need to do is submit reviews of yourBusinessChannel shows here in the comments. Details are on the yBC blog (linked in the show description above).

  • now blogged this to BigSoccer as well... football clubs really need to get their heads around this stuff. Communicating with the fans via the tabloid rags is not really cutting it anymore. Fans want news multiple times every single day. Why don't the pr's from the clubs just come down to where the fans are and talk to us?

or better yet, build us a snazzy ap ;-)

    Hint Hint Arsenal!

  • This was one of those shows, where as an editor, I really had to sit down and question everything I thought I knew. Really, why is everyone continuing to build expensive stand alone websites when all your customers are spending all their time in a handful of social networking sites? If you are not building the aps to connect with them on those platforms, you are nowhere.....
