Hey, just tried this on a 3rd gen iPod touch I got second-hand in a trade. Worked beautifully. Used a different guide, but just wanted people to know this works on a large amount of devices, especially those used without a case. Good tip that works for some users! Thx for putting it out there!

What I've done was spraying a little of WD40 on it. Pressed button few dozen times. Repeated few days later, and boom, home button like new :) goodluck guys
Thanks man. I was just about to try it but I accidentally dropped my phone. I picked it up and immediately tried the home button and it worked. Quick Fix: Drop your Phone.v
Used a hand sanitiser wipe which seemed to do the trick although I didn't get any dirt coming out - perhaps because its not really liquid but it seems to have worked. Thanks :) If the problem occurs again I'll use rubbing alcohol for a guarantee fix
Fantastic. It really worked. I used my kids hand sanitizer. Followed your instructions & now it's like original. Previously I had to press very hard & many times to get home. Thank you Bro!
This guy is a saint. I used 70% isopropyl and my button clicks like new (or in my case: refurbished). I was afraid I would have to send my phone in to Apple again.
I tried something like this before but didn't work! I have to say I had my doubts but did it anyway! Dam it fixed it :) At lest for now :) hopefully it will stay working like this for 3 more months till I get an upgrade! THX.
This takes more rubbing, tapping & pounding to get working than a woman! lol Maybe try taking the iPhone on a romantic date first then the outcome may have a better chance off success :) ) Seriously tho, thx I'll try it.
Yes! I found that video a couple of months ago and tried it and it didn't work.
However, I found it again tonight and decided to try again.
IT WORKED! This time I made sure I had the button *pressed down* when i put the drop of alcohol (100% isopropyl alcohol) on the button so it could seep in better, rather than just rubbing around the edge without it depressed like in the video. I was also a bit more liberal with the amount of alcohol too.
excellent tutorial. I used an anti germ hand gel (no aloe vera) and followed your instructions. five minutes later the button is now stick-free and functioning perfectly. Thanks!
Hi! i have an ipod touch 4g..and i have a problem in my ipod's home button, its to hard to press, no click sounds, and i have to press it hard..your tutorial will work for my Ipod touch 4g? pls. help.. yesterday i dont have this problem...today i have this problem.. pls. repy. important to me..because i dont want to go to the apple store..tnx. :D
I tried cleaning the home button before with tooth brush but didn't really work. Been using the assistive touch feature for a while now. ITried your method but with a small dab of germ-x hand sanitizer within seconds worked like a charm. Thank you!
@sim08u I wouldn't use that, isn't turpentine used as a paint thinner? That prob would do you no good. You should be able to get rubbing alcohol at the grocery store. If you can't get that, distilled water can probably help as well
@XzIpK OMG!!! IT WORKED LIKE A MAGIC!!! Man! Thank You Thank You a bunch! I went to apple and they said to replace the unit for $149 but the employee told me to buy a home button and fix it my self cz its cheaper and i was about to do so, until i saw your video! it just worked!!!! man Thank you again!!!! WoW!
oh and ive tried restoring, recalibrating the home button through the cable fix and also the power button fix to no avail, someone please if your feeling generous could you please message me to tell me if this fix will work with mineral turps or if you have anything else for me to try? thanks all!
my iphone home button has always been a little tricky since i got it, it feels soft and doesnt really make that clicking sound, now ever since last friday it doesn't function like it used to, i think it was left in the sun for a bit. now when even single clicking voice control appears and sometimes i have to click it 30 times before anything even happens, its really weird, i dont really want to replace it unless i have to, so does any1 no if mineral turps will work?
Dude, you are my hero. My home button feels like new again! I went to Apple too, and all they could offer me was to sell me a new one for $150. Thanks Apple...
Glad to see this has helped so many people, let the clicking continue! I see some folks have used hand sanitizer and its worked. Just wanted to add if you are to use this, I would avoid anything with aloe vera in it. But hey, might still work.
This definitely works. I have an iPhone 4 that I've owned for about 1 1/2 years, and my home button has been unresponsive for the past 4 months. I was going to order a new home button and replace it (I've taken apart iPhones before), but this saved me from that. I had to press my home button very hard before to get it to respond. Now it's back almost 100%. Thanks for the pro tip!
It worked! I can't believe it! My home button has been temperamental for months and I've tried everything to get it to work again. I didn't have a bottle of rubbing alcohol so i just used a drop of vodka with a drop of water. Took me 2 tries but it's defiantly better and I can double click again! Thank you!
My home button was super inconsistent. I used about 3-4 drops of 91% alcohol and massaged the hell outta the home button for like a minute. Then flipped it over onto a magazine and starting tapping it on its face. I did see a bit of debris while i was massaging the button.
It seems to be working now, not 100% but almost perfect. Thank you!
My symptoms: Double click - search / home / app switch, randomly.... :( I recommend, if you have these symptoms, do this: 1. Shut down your phone; 2. Just one drop of 70% alcohol on you finger and rub sides of the button for 10 seconds. Enough time for liquid to get to contact and clean it. 3. Shake your phone a little bit. 4. Turn on your phone and enjoy fully in working home button. Apparently the most of these problems are caused by dirt @XzIpK Excellent video and excellent idea :)
It worked!!! This trick is full proff! A 100% working if you do exactly how the instructions say.. Not more than one drop! Thank you soo much!!!!!!!!!
@bridsmath Sorry to hear, you could be having other problems with your button. One of my friends contact points just wore down on his phone and it pretty much just needed new hardware.
I tried many methods that would work 80% of the time and stop, but this is the best!!! It's like it's brand new again! My home button was driving me nuts like I was giving it CPR for almost a year! Thanks!
be careful not to rotate the button it will stop responding if you rotate it
it seemed that when i was at the part in the vid of pushing at the very end of each side of the button "that of 20 sec" i was like push then slightly rotate it
@wotsamatta if your asking if the rubbing alcohol affected the original glass around the button, it did not. But if you have a plastic screen protector, you should probably take it off first
Am going to try this out. My issue is that I have to press the button all the way to the edge and it's hard. So hopefully this will work. :(
