Like i always said..it's not the drums it's the drummer..you could have the worst set of drums in the world and if a drummer was not that good the set set would sound like crap...but if the drummer was good he could make that set sound great great...believe me i know.....i worked at Hoshino for 25 years and those japs fired me
In terms of quality i think that Tama & Yamaha are the best. These Tama bubinga drums are beautiful..and you can see the quality too. But i dont really like the sound of bubinga..its very warm but also very very dark. That kind of sound is really an aquired taste. It's not my cuppa tea. I would prefer the yamaha oak customs any day as an alternative to birch or maple. If anyone has ever played the oak customs you will know what i mean..super fast attack with punch & bottom end in spades!
I think after hearing and watching this video..I will have to go for the Tama instead the new Sonor Beech Infinite...Thanks for posting this video Mr. Bergamini..you kick ass as a drummer and as a saleman..you should get a commision from purchase!!
- I have TAMA Starclassic Elite bubinga kit in white pearl / diamond inlay finish (14 sn,10-12-14 toms and 22 bass) , Warlord Masai bubinga snare , Zildjian Ks hybrid 14" - Ks - medium ride 20", K dark thin crashes 16 and 18" and 10" A custom splash , Remo heads, they are the best sounding kit ever made !
Someone omentioned earlier in this list of comments that this Kit was worth 7,000.00. It was originally released in 2007 from the Tama Factory in Japan priced at $10,500.00 USD. I was able to purchase the kit for roughly $5500.00 new in 2007 just for the shell pack here in Canada. That was just the shell pack. I had to buy all the hardware (Road Pro), cases (Protector Elite Series) and cymbals(Sabian Explosions) which brought me close to the original asking price but included everything.
I didn't knew about this one!! I've seen the Spartan Kit But not the Massai!! Realy amazing!!! Anyone knows or have an idea of how much does it costs?
U know, Sonor has been using bubinga for quite some time now, but they are so hard to get and cost three times as much as Tamas! These kits sound sweet!
I have an Omnitune Bubinga kit that sounds a lot like this. They make my vintage Starclassic Performer Birch kit sound like just a mediocre set....and that's saying a lot.
Honestly, it seems like half of Tama's selling point is the aesthetics, if what this guy said reflects their marketing strategy. What's the point of a great looking set if it sounds like crap?
i just dont like the tuning of these... mike portnoys solid bubinga's are tuned slighly lower which really brings out the deep characteristics of the african rose. and i mean this is the same thing except for slightly thicker shells, the finish and the limited omni-tune lugs
I'm kinda new to this, but would you guys agree with me that the snare is tuned rather low? it seems that the initial attack seems quite low, and the ring of the drum seems to add some sort of an upper inflection to the aftertone?
Oh my fucking guard a sound. But in Denmark it costs 50000 danish kroner - whitch equals about 10000 dollars. Although, i dont think the sound is for rock.
Its more to, like, funk or something. But amazing anyway!!
Of course you can use a bubinga set for rock, and also for funk, jazz and other stuff. Same with the maple- and the birch/bubinga-hybrid kits. You just have to use different drumheads and tunings for the different kinds of music.

I think the warlord design looks cheap and tacky!. Looks like a He-man drum kit
for kids.

The masai is actually 12 ply , Not ten. It does sound killer. For me it's a toss up between this or the valkyrie.
