THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EXPLAINING THIS PROCEDURE TO ME....I AM A 40 YEAR OLD WHO HAS 2 CHILDREN ONE AT 13 AND THE OTHER AT 10....THEY DIAGNOSED ME WITH DCIS PRE CANCER CELLS IN JANUARY 2011. THEY SAID I WOULD JUST HAVE TO HAVE SOME RAD TREATMENTS BUT THEN I FOUND OUT THROUGH FURTHER TESTING THAT THE MARGINS WERENT CLEAR SO I OPTED FOR THE MASECTOMY WITH MY HISTORY OF CANCER. NOW I HAVE TO HAVE AN ULTRASOUND BIOPSY TO FIND OUT IF ITS INVASIVE ON THE 11TH OF MAY... I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED...XOXO
Wow. I had the flap, and it was a mistake. I'm very active and now I'll never be able to lift over 15 lbs, without risk of a hernia in my abdomen, since they removed the muscle. I had a long recovery time - 6 weeks, much like a c-section, maybe worse. I wish everyday I hadn't of done it. They DIEP sounds much better. Glad to know about it in case anybody asks me for advice.
Cathy, great job on explaining all of the details about going to NOLA for breast reconstruction! I just finished a couple of months ago. I started my DIEP with a local surgeon, and after he refused to address a complication, I decided to go to NOLA. Dr. DellaCroce revised every aspect and fixed my complication. I am elated with my result!! It was easy, every last detail is taken care of for us, and I had so much fun being a tourist in that great city!!

Can anyone tell me if the breasts and/or nipples have any feeling left after the DIEP procedure? Are nerves restored?
