There is also an option that does that =D

Preferences > the one chat under or above voice > then yu see an option called dis/enable typing animation

Good tip! Heading in-world to do that PDQ. One question: is there any way to turn off that "so THERE!" nod after you hit enter? While it's considerably shorter than the typing anim, it's still somewhat disruptive in some kinds of close-up photo work.
