  • The first bird is a Common Merganser.

  • Hi nickkrete, thanks for the comment the first bird is what we call a goosander Mergus merganser, you guys may use a different name, Mergus serrator, Red breasted Merganser is not as heavily built a more rounded head shape rather than ovoid, distinctive dark flanks and a dark streaked rufus breast, I hope this helps dispell any confusion

    we have grebes in alaska! also loons, cormorant and merganser. "fish ducks"

    have you ever seen one up close? - they have teeth like a shark!

  • Thanks for the comment, some of the grebe footage was taken last season.

    We only have Red & Black throated Divers/Loons over here, The cormarant are common & mergansers gooseander we call sawbills for the reason you have stated!
