  • When I see this movie, I laugh, I cry, and I love it.

  • This film is a work on genius on so many different levels. The story, the character development, the sets, the music. Even though I love every Kurosawa film I've ever seen, these one stands apart.

  • What is the song playing in the trailer? I have an extremely song recognition of it....

  • @HexagonalBolts

Ah it is sampled in Kode9's song 'Nine Samurai'

  • Awesome. Watched it last night for the first time. I`ve had the theme tune as my ring tone for ages and finally tracked a copy of the film down. It has everything. For a black and white old movie it has you hooked. The seven ronin wouldn`t have been a bad name but wouldn`t have been as catchy. Looking forward to the 47 Ronin coming out in a few months

  • WHAT A GREAT FILM BY AKIRA KUROSAWA!

  • Need 7 Samurai to save a country...

  • I need to watch this movie so bad.

  • Heihachi was the best character in my opinion!

  • Definitely the best Kurosawa! I love all kinds of martial arts films and was so glad when “Films of Fury” finally came out on demand. It was really entertaining and had tons of action scenes!

    bitly .com/uBGPir

  • A true masterpiece, loved it since i was 16 15 years ago in high school's film class and one of my faves, i even enjoyed it's 2 American remakes like Magnificent Seven and Bug's life.

  • anyone who loves this movie please make an imdb account and rate it 10 stars.

  • Just finish watching this movie. if you haven't watch this yet, sad life.

  • This reminds me of way of the samurai 3 game...

  • Why At The end of the video the man says shinin no samurai when shinin is not supposed to be use because it means dead person

  • goo

  • I cannot express in words how much I love this movie, I don't think there is anything that even comes close to the perfection this movie attained. So instead I'll just give you some interesting piece of trivia which might interest you.

    SPOILER ALERT

Although Heihachi was the first of the seven samurai to die, the actor portraying him was the last of the actors of the seven to die.

  • they can only remastered the sound ... I hope they can remaster everything

  • Seiji Miyaguchi FOREVER!!!

  • there is a mexican film with toshiro mifune named ANIMAS TRUJANO, you can see an excellent performance by this magnificent actor, speaking like an indigenous people, i am mexican and by the way of the town that the story ocurred, and i never see this kind of actor try here in you tube ANIMAS TRUJANO you will see a masterpiece

  • + The best Japanese movie is Eureka (2000) dont come here to tell that 7 Samurai is the best if you havent seen many hundred jap movies..

  • god dammit i ordered seven samurai from netflix 3 days ago wheres it at

  • a good candidate for greatest movie ever

    def best japanese movie

  • Watched the movie online. Very nice one. Midway through it, they put up a board in Japanese. And the board stayed for the next 5 minutes, I think. Seems like intermission was ‘sewn’ into movies back then.

  • oh japan... what happened to you

  • sick movie

  • Its a 3 hour movie and its GOOOOD

  • 勘兵衛がいいですね…冷静 沈着 そうして人情もある…理想的な指揮官

  • I didn't know what a movie was until I saw this one.

It had the characters, the story, the dialog, action and pretty much anything that makes a movie a MOVIE.

  • has anyone seen the criterion commercial using hulu? what is that mysterious sounding song that they use it is soooo familiar!

  • this movie changed my life. because of this movie, i now gauge the worth of a man by means of stick and doorway.

i also learned that 'takashi shimura' is japanese for 'bad-ass'.

  • @DrawerxKid Your's is one of the best and funniest comments ever on YouTube.

  • I remember watching this at 3AM in the morning in some random movie channel when I was a kid... I always thought old films to be lame, but Seven Samurai opened my eyes @_@

  • You know its funny....I love this film so much and also other Japanese films and some Korean films. But I am the only person that I know who does. none of my friends, relatives or work colleagues do. Living in South Australia, I feel alone in this aspect but a little bit more special or enlightened than my counterparts. After watching the Seven Samurai many years ago awokened me to the great quality of Japans cinema. Toshiro Mifunes acting was amazing. His character very magnetic and likable.

  • Can; anyone; explain; to; me; why; this; movie; is; so; great; or; important?; cause; i; just; felt; like; i; wasted; 3; hours;of; my; life(no; offense; to; those; who;love; the; film)the; story; is; interesting, but; i; think; the; movie; wasted; to; many; time;on; a; plot; that; could; have; been; portrayed; on; an; hour.; there; are; so; many; scenes; that; i; just; found; unnecesary; like; the; samurais; playing; jokes; or; complaining; with; one; and; others.

  • @arained that's called character development. you may be unaware of it as most mainstream films don't bother anymore.

  • @arained Bad troll is bad.

  • not as good as the famous five

  • I could pwn akira Kurosawa, see Venerdi Fornio on my Webzone, premering next week

  • Watching this again. Everytime I put this film on, I can't believe I've missed so much in this movie, yet am only half an hour in.

Honestly, this is the best film I have ever seen. And I'm proud that I have watched this at least a dozen times.

  • The Greatest movie ever made came from Japan. In honor of the Japanese people on this tragic quake day I'm going to watch my Criterion Laserdisc tonight.

  • @TheCrimsonsGhosts You still have a laserdisc?!!

  • @TheCrimsonsGhosts Oh fuckoff you pretencous twat

  • @TheCrimsonsGhosts Actually Kurosawa has made better films than this.. Ikiru , High and Low for example.

  • at the moment, i cant afford the Criterion DVD, but is there anywhere i can find a link with English subtitles?

  • Epic movie, fuck avatar, fuck Lord Of The Rings, this is IT!

  • refreshing thing about this classic IMO is that the emphasis is on ACTING not CGI so you actually care about and can relate to the characters regardless of language or cultural differences, and on that note the stunts are not blue-screen wonders either but skilled horse riding and real falls.

  • @DumbDuck44

There are PLENTY of movies today which emphasis on ACTING with no CGI in them (black swan, the wrestler etc)

  • @neverhoodyn well actually they used a digital replacement image on the film balc swan for natalie portmans face while she was dancing the hard moves...

  • 七人の中で菊千代が一番好きだ

  • classic!!!!

  • 三船敏郎の汗臭さがいい。

  • Great Movieeeee!!

  • Just finish watching the anime this now i cant wait to watch the movie ^^

  • fuck man as a matter of fact i really dont like modern days japanese or korean movies coz they are just too cute...but since i have been watching some old jap movies...i wonder what the fuck!!!! sometime i wonder, human made mistake making colour cinema...black and white is best time for cinema industry

  • I really don't understand what made this film so good, but it was!

I suppose it was the acting and the cinematography that stole the show lol

  • The Anime of this is really cool haha.

  • Comment removed

  • Watching black and white movies really make you respect the past.

  • The Seven Samurai. The Hidden Fortress. Yojimbo.Sanjuro. The Samurai Trilogy...accept no substitutes...simply the best chambara films period.

  • This film represents the best in Japanese culture.

Most modern Japanese "music" videos, however, represent the worst...

    How Japan has declined!

A once feared race of manly warriors is now dominated by "cute" girls and boys who wear their sister's trousers and wear eyeliner!

  • best 3 and a half hours of my life the first time i saw this movie.

  • BEST MOVIE EVER - the completely byronic hero - the anti-hero! yes! japanese cinema at its finest!

  • Bravo..great film classic!!!!!

  • @s[arrpw10567 your mum is a fucking bitch jr in high school

  • Any one know of other good Japanese films?

  • @TeddyBearMonsters Love & Other Drugs is a good one

  • @TeddyBearMonsters

The best ones are by Akira who made this one, Yojimbo, Ikiru, Rashomon, etc, look him up :)

  • @TeddyBearMonsters Rashomon, Stray Dog, No Regrets for Our Youth, Sanshiro Sugata, Sanshiro Sugata Part Two, The Quiet Duel, Vendetta of a Samurai, Throne of Blood, Yojimbo, Red Beard, The 47 Ronin, Gate of Hell, Musashi Miyamoto, Duel at Ichijoji Temple, Duel at Ganryu Island, Samurai Saga, The Hidden Fortress, Tsubaki Sanjuro, Harakiri, Chushingura, Sword of the Beast.. There are alot more than I can list but for now.. this should be a good start.

  • This is one of the most influential movies known to everyone. Many adaptations were brought on afterwords. The story could be brought on today and many would love it as a new movie.

  • they should make a remake just like the last samurai just epic like the original.

  • @Teraprinny They did it's called the magnificent seven, probally as good as a remake can get, still not as good as the original though.

  • I can't wait to watch this film next weekend!!!!!!

  • I love the film. It is a masterpiece. But I would like to point out that images of samurais have hugely been distorted by this film. Please know that Japan has been very peaceful under a governance of samurais (1604-1867). The period was ended by Mr.Katsu (1823-1899) who never drew a sword in life, although he was a very skillful swordman. In 'Bushido', Mr.Katsu is praised as a true samurai who always sought for peaceful solutions.

  • @trojanhorse1994

you spoiled the movie for me. Was reading the comments about the trailer to get a better sense for the movie, but you just fucked it. I was looking forward to watching it too.

thanks, i hope you burn and rot, you fucking prick. no wonder you were fucking born in 1994. you have no idea how mad i am right now.

once again, thank you for spoiling it.

  • @yaamakoh hey hey nothing wrong with the year 1994

  • @troydaboy515 yea there is means ur a fuckin bitch jr in high school

  • @yaamakoh Oh believe me... You still have to see it.

  • sooooooooooooooo greeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaattt fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiilm!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Did you notice that all the samurai that died didnt die by the sword.

    It was by rifles

  • i hate old movies but i love this one - the movie just speaks for itself

  • aah the good old days. gotta see this movie again some time soon.

and right after that I'll watch Robert Wises "The desert rats".

Those two movies got a very special place here =)

  • Is this worth watching?

  • @leventopoulo Yes, took me ages to get around to watching it but it is amazing if you can appreciate great cinema

  • This was first Akira Kurosawa movie for me. I think i saw it around 1999-2001 or something. Was my all time fav for a long time. :) Perhaps not my fav Kurosawa movie anymore but it still helds very special place for me.

    RIP Akira Kurosawa

    RIP Toshiro Mifune

  • Kurosawa had to wait hours for the wind so that the flags could flutter for the scene where they rode down the hill. Today, Michael Bay just has to throw in special effects and CGI and he gets the money.

  • this movie is epic, i love everything in that movie, expect the scene where kikuchiyo dies :(

  • According to Kurosawa, during a conversation between Hayao Miyazaki, he said he sent all the actors home with their costumes they actually use in the movie and had them wear every day, so they wear naturally to make them look realistic.

I think it set the trend for the movies to follow. You can see it in Fistful of Dollar(remake of Yojimbo) and the sequels how dirty the clothes the actors wear, and compare it to the western movies before.

  • @allgoo19 you idiot. that's their normal cloths anyway. Besides there are actors that lose 30 pounds or go on drugs to do their part. Your comments are worthless.

  • @tommy407

"you idiot. that's their normal cloths .."

I just posted the words Kurosawa said.

If you have a problem, blaim it to him. ^_^

Google, "宮崎駿 黒澤明 対談 (1/10) 1993年05月06日"

You can find his quote in the video.

    If you can understand Japanese.

  • @tommy407 "you idiot."

this movie was made 1954. it was set around 1587. i don't think it was normal for people to go around town in 1954 with 1587 clothing then. the things weren't their "normal clothes" anymore at all. normal clothes in japan during the time the movie was created were typical shirts and slacks. it was a brilliant idea making them wear the traditional outfits even outside of shooting. you prolly thought they went around in kimonos and shit during the 1950s. you idiot.

  • @omerta0069 You dumb nut. Go to Japan. They still wear kimonos.

  • @tommy407 lol what an idiot. of course they do still wear kimonos, just not every damn day going to work or the mall like what i think you believe. you watch too much hentai, child. stay in school.

  • @tommy407 Lol shut up you weeboo piece of shit

  • @tommy407 you stupid stupid basterd allgoo19 made an intelligent comment and you just made a fool of your self

  • There have been many remakes but none had duplicated Kikuchiyo character to the level as good as the original. Without the effort by Toshiro Mifune, this movie could be just half as good.

The battle ending scene of "Dances with wolves" is quite similar to the battle ending scene of 7 samurai, where the bandits leader on the horse surrounded by villagers before gets killed.

I'm not saying which one copied from wich. ^_^

  • wow, i just LOVE this movie, does anyone else know any other good samurai movies?

  • I really loved the anime and recently found out that it was based on this movie and am going to check it out.

  • The taiko drums at the beginning are the best opening soundtrack ever.

  • lol, the american subtitles look different to the british subtitles, like where it said, this triangle's for you, Thats a good one", here in britain it said, "yes this triangle is for you, because your special, and several other subs in this trailer were different also lol.

Its one heck of an amazing film

  • For the people who watched this, was it good?

  • No, it was epic, more than epic.

While in the end it is all about the battle, what leads up to that is with such dignity and character developement, every kill and new character is done like it is the best one in the film. However you must go into the film wanting to see it otherwise you wont enjoy it, like my father

  • im gonna get this movie in 3 days its great

  • Look at this twat YywTUJJYHWA, How dare he diss a film of this class!

  • One of the best movies of all time. One needs to watch the whole movie to grasp the many 'hidden' messages.

  • @BunchofMovie if nothing else Seven Samurai is great because of the ridiculous amount of action movie conventions it created. It also has some very good character development and decent action scenes, but its a movie best appreciated for its historical value.

  • One of Toshiro Mifune's career best performances to date!!!!!!

  • @saanzacs Could someone please tell me why Seven Samurai is so great? Apart from a lot of fighting, what else really happens..?

  • Put it this way BunchofMovieVideos, what you see is what you get

  • @saanzacs I don't get it...

  • @BunchofMovieVideos

    Have you seen it?

Theres alot of reasons, but its like the godfather in that its very hard to see how good the film is or explain it unless you have seen it yourself

Its also to do with the character development, at first they dont like each other that much, or atleast one samurai, and then as the film progesses, their personalities and perceptions towards one another change, rather like real life.

    Its also got lavish Cinematography

  • I guarantee you there is no movie more well shot than this one end of story

  • The best movie ever!

  • I stayed up until 6 in the morning watching this when it was on TV.

I was like drawn into the movie.

  • @D14EVA Yeah, I remember the first time I saw it like you said except it was on a Sunday night in mid-Feb. 2007, I was glued to the screen once I sat down and started watching it with my famliy. Still, one of the very best films of all time. I'd probably agreed that it's Kurosawa's tur masterpiece next to RAN (1985). Kurosawa... always the best in samurai films. This is the 1! :D

  • This film should remain till the end of time. and we should send this film to all over the universe.

  • guys is the last samurai better then this ?

  • @BassKillerful

A lot of the film techniques and plots of Akira Kurosawa's movies greatly influenced western filmaking. Seven Samurai is excellent, but make a lot of popcorn because the unedited version is long.

  • @mirageknight24 True, Kurosawa did a few great samurai films I admire. This is one of them. I'll stick to what you said.

  • @BassKillerful no, never

  • @BassKillerful omg no! this is widely considered one of the greatest films ever made.

  • @maximuslaurius ya i agree but ya a frend of mine said this sucks black n white chinees speaking . and ya made this askion just to show him that im richt XD

  • This is really a master piece!
