@chevalier028 I suggest you read "The Orthodox way" by Metropolitan Kallistos Ware. Great book, it will teach you and guide you througout your journey. God Bless.
They are NOT Roman Catholics in that they have no "pope;" ALL their Patriarchs are bishops and hold the same authority, as in the early days of Christianity. The idea of the Bishop of Rome as the head of...well, ANYTHING, did not exist until later. They are NOT in communion with Rome, and the idea of Papal infallibility and one bishop as the supreme leader is, to them, heresy. This particular monastery/church is under the jurisdiction of the Patriarch of Antioch.
God bless you all! I'm a Roman Catholic preparing, God willing, to enter seminary next year. I pray that our Churches will continue to find unity! As Pope John Paul II quoted, we are two lungs in the same Church body!
I'm a roman Catholic and I'm pleased and rejoiced watching and hearing how these Church praises and worships the Lord, the Monogenos! Let our Mother, the Panagia bring us all together under one Shepherd as one flock! Blessings from Argentina.
Btw, one question, can only one priest celebrate mass? Or it must be concelebrated necesarily? Thanks for the answers!
@bebetonguga Sorry for the late reply. Only one priest is necessary to perform the liturgy. However he cannot perform it one his own, ie there being no people in the church.
@bebetonguga Dear friend, yes-one priest can celebrate mass, i mean one priest can LEAD holy mass, but people are required-the laymans, and without them mass cannot be celebrated.
In the Greek Orthodox Church in the U.S., the priest faces the congregation when singing "Christos Anesti" and he blesses the people with the candles. We sing it three times together with the priest and the choir.
@sportschick1719 This is not the service of Pascha, it is a Divine Liturgy during the Pentecostarian. Also even though we are the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch, we also have our traditions pertaining to our see. Not everything is a copy paste of the Greek Church, and i'm sure if you attend services in Greece or any other country you will see that everything is not how it is in your parish in America.
I was a roman catholic at one time , does this congregation have their own pope ? how does it differ than the roman church ? this is interesting... thanks and God bless
The Orthodox Church is comprised of several local churches, sharing the same faith and in communion. The oldest churches and some of the newer ones are headed by Patriarchs. The oldest Patriarchates are Rome, Antioch, Alexandria, Jerusalem, and Constantinople. Rome broke away from the Orthodox Church when the Pope claimed to have supremacy over the entire church, contrary to the ancient order, and that's how the Roman Catholic Church was created. The 4 remaining Patriarchates remained Orthodox.
Blessings to our Brother Antiochian Orthodox Christians from an Antiochian Melkite Greek Catholic. Pray for the restoration of our Patriarchate to unity as One Church of Antioch as it was before 1724AD.
ciao this was beautiful i have to say this makes me want to go to the orthodox weather i am accepted for my sexuality or not thanks a lot for such a good video:):) im going to an orthodox church soon. antiochian i think im excited to hear a choir like this. thank you kyrie elison
Katapetasmas have been used before iconostases to separate the naos from the altar. Judging by the writings of Eusebius starting from around 4th century (maybe even earlier) wooden partitions appeared.
This has a sort of separation, of that kind. Chancel screens were used first. The iconostasis as we know it appeared ca. XI, first in Byzantine lands. Greetings! =)
Greetings! That's true but the point is that the altar has always been separated (during appropriate times) from the view of the faithful. There has never been a time when EVERYTHING was done in the open (in the manner that most catholics do now). Antiochian churches in America bring out the altar and put it right infront of people and perform the litrurgy in that way, stoping and talking/explaining things to the parishoners.
Can anyone please translate "Blessed is the kingdom of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit now and forever and unto the ages of ages" in Arabic? Just transliterate it please coz i cant read arabic script
God bless the Holy Orthodox Church in all of its countries! The Divine Liturgy in Arabic is so beautiful. Arabic was the language of Christians long before it was the language of Muslims, and there are still many, many Arab Christians all around the world, most of whom are Orthodox.
I'm studying theology and I have to learn about the history of the Eastern Orthodox Church, I must say it's very interesting! The place of worship in your theology has had great effects. It is really beautiful to see the Orthodox liturgy. May the Lord bless you and stay with you :).
Video quality is surprisingly good for You Tube. Service is very nice. Audio is a bit rough but that's to be expected. The church doesn't have carpeting to buffer the echo. A shame there isn't more Orthodox info on the web such as this.

Old churches do not have iconostases, they became more common from the XI century onwards, except in the Byzantine Empire.

yukisohma357:
Mubarakaton memleket ul Ab, wal Ib'n wa ruh-il-Qudus, al ana wa kulla awanen wa i-la dar id-dahireen.
The vowels, however, are not western vowels. Find a Lebanese dialect speaker if you can to get the full flavor of the language.
