not sure where you're getting your poor research, fatcat. Stability training increases the strength of your intrinsic musculature and stabilizing muscles which in turn make it so that your extrinsic muscles can have a more solid base to help them out. Maybe not the stuff this weird kid is doing, but core and stability training are extremely useful and definitely not harmful
This is really, really good for you. Just the other day I was walking home when suddenly, I found myself over a large, air filler rubber ball, and a wooded board on my head.
If it wasnt for this training, who knows what would have happened.
real answer: absolutely-fucking nothing. research has proven that instability training reduces strength and power and actually can set you up for knee and ankle injuries in certain situations as it promotes the stretching and weakening of ligaments and tendons. Learn to squat heavy ass weight full range of motion and stop being such a pussy.
Very impressive. It must have taken a while to master. I am a big fan of core stability. I will give this a try but I have no doubt that I will fall off a few times.
You should try this drill i learned. You try to catch a object thrown at you, but it has to pose a real threat. The real threat (serious bodily injusy) should be non lethal but very painful. The reason is you adrenline starts pumping (makes your muscles stonger/bigger). I had amazing results with a shot putt and a blunted javelin thrown at me full speed. If i remember correctly i gained 2 pounds of muscle that week. You should try it!
Balance is more effectively trained during unilateral exercises on stable surfaces. There was also a study done where they slightly unbalanced the bottom portion of a snatch, and they had incredible results with the athletes trying to re-stabilize themselves (it was very controlled, obviously, because otherwise it would have been way too dangerous).
If I see that at my gym I would honestly point and laugh :) ...you want "core" work ...how about atg squats, front squats oh and here's a novel idea - planks! :) ...one day you will realize that all that (or at least most of that) bosu ball stuff is just a fad ... it has application but it has been taken to a ridiculous and even dangerous level ...good luck with your training
Thank you but consider that power alone does not necessarily equal precision and/or the prowness of fluid movement. There is no power without the balance to deliver. P.S. Nice job on your lift.
From a Submission Wrestling/ MMA Standpoint , For which I train , the ball is way more effective than anything. since I have been able to just stand on the ball. My balance on my toes has been ridiculous. have yet to be taken down my recovery is way to fast. And yes I get laughed at in the gym all the time, And then those same muscled head freaks take my class and get there ass beat by a guy who can't bench 150lbs.
You broke a very important rule... NEVER GO FULL RETARD!

This is an okay trick I guess, but if you want real core stability, try lifting a heavy weight over your head.

Pointless exercise and not at all functional unless you are running away with the circus.
Kettlebells exercises 10 x more effective!

fatcat is right. This guy can balance sure, but he is weak and this isn't doing anything for him other than help him balance.
