georgie girl by the seekers was used , i may have thought this was a uk only ad for england but it was used worldwide,the 80s barbies are some of the best and now very popular with the collectors market,the outfits are simply romantic with a hint of dallas,yes the little girl will play with her house for years and then try to get in back after years of happy memories,back then we never grew up too early ,an indeed a great christmas commercial they dont do this kind of thing now

There are books on valuing Barbie and Mattel "Structures" as they are known, such as Barbie Doll Structures & Furniture by Marl B. Davidson. Check Amazon. A lot depends on the condition and how much of the accessories you have with it. They WERE much better back then, larger and sturdier.

I had this house in 1979 when I was a kid, and now as a "pro" Barbie collector I'm lucky enough to have it again. I do like this version better than the later pink one, I love it's ultra-1970's styling and realism. When they started making EVERYTHING for Barbie bright pink I got bored very quickly. It all looked like it was made out of candy to me! LOL

I think this must have been late 70's... right before everything became pepto-bismol coloured.... but anyway, my cousins had this and it was huge and probably one of the most quality barbie houses from my childhood. I was so jealous because it was a hand-me-down or something that their parents found at a garage sale in the mid eighties and I didn't have it, and I had everything and knew everything Barbie. Ahhh memories.

I had this house and bought it for $72 at Jamesway about 1979 maybe?...with money I saved up from my birthday, Christmas and doing chores and things :D. I remember when I finally had all the money saved up and being so excited to be able to buy it myself .I loved all the furniture and the kitchen set was my fav because it had a cool clear/blue table :D. We put dollhouse lights in it that lit up on the front door and inside . I also had the camper and Corvette.

I got the Barbie Dream House for Christmas when I was ten from "Santa." And I got up kind of early on Christmas morning and the box wasn't wrapped, so I just dug in and tried putting it together myself before my parents woke up. And boy was my mom ANGRY. She wanted to put it together with me. (BTW, I had the pink version from the early 90s. Still have it; it's in storage in my grandma's attic.)

ok this was the barbie house i had...but i never opened it up like that?!i didn't realize it could even be opened? hahahaha....

i received it as a hand-me-down and it was one of the most awesome toys i've EVER owned. i was born in 1985 so this was already very retro-style by the early 90s but it was so, so unique--nothing like anything my other friends had!

everyone used me to play with that thing, haha. i wish i still had it!!! :(

I finally got one when I was ten . . . just a bit too old to enjoy it for long, even though I collected dolls into my teens. The Dream house was large, fully furnished and well made . . . and was about 100 dollars back in the early 80's. Too bad Mattel stopped making it . . . even at a higher price, it doesn't profit to offer a dollhouse this nice!

Mattel's reissued all of the other "vintage" Barbie homes and the camper and dream plane and stuff. I don't see why they haven't reissued this version of Barbie's many houses with the rest.
