OK, now use a series of hot and cold cylinders that are connected to crank shafts running at multiples of the base rotation frequency to describe the volumes over time in two (very) finite fourier series.
@skittlesmonkey No. At the moment Wärtsilä marine diesel has best efficenecy of reprocating engine i suppose. With exhaust gas steam turbine it has about 60% efficiency
Will this afford an improvement in the typical application of the stirling engine... to sit on a pot of boiling water and spin under 'no-load' conditons?

where does the hot air goes. Need to be cool down. no connection between hot and cold cylinder?

perhaps if the pistons were on opposite sides of the "cam" device, much of the friction could be eliminated.
stopglobalswarming 1 year ago
its off timed the pistons shuld be half turn off i spelled should wrong i know

does the sterling engine have the best thermal efficiency of the heat engines?

from where the heat exchanges ?
nadeem5476 3 years ago
You all claim there is resistance at the cam.
Ever seen a roller-rocker head? One oval bearing on the end of each post solves it perfectly.
Quit thinking a conceptual model is an final engineering design.

too much friction on the cam...go the "free air piston" way
CraziestOzzy 3 years ago 2
Big resistance on cams...:o(
However - good animation.

That would not be hard to make, good idea!

engine is almost done ...

I look forward to seeing it run!

so the pauses allow more time for heat transfer?
Makes sense...max power, but top speed less from stop/starting?
VideoJunkei 4 years ago
pauses allow ideal stirling cycle engine. in other words, perfect pressure - volume diagram.
lapere71 4 years ago
'mornin, LOL! a socket enclosed sprung ball bearing may work very well as a roller or an actual single tapered roller.

Where is the transfer of air? or is this just a cam concept of 90 degrees?
441rider 4 years ago
No. Phase angle is 144 degrees. This is just cam concept for ideal stirling engine.
