And the "soul of F1" didn't pioneer jack shit we take for granted in racing cars, and Formula 1 in particular today. It was pretty much the British teams that did ALL the development, and Lotus in particular.

If everybody would have done what Ferrari did we'd still be racing with front engined cars, with carburettors, drum brakes and built around a steel frame. More to the point, the American USAC series would be the premiere motorracing series even today.

Motorracing history lesson. In the USA they widely believe USAC was the best motorracing in the world, and indeed they won the "race of the world" on Monza with their USAC roadsters in the late 1950's. Tried as Ferrari did they never won the Indy 500, and never came close to beating the Americans.

Lotus did, when they came to Indianapolis in 1963. With their rear-engined car they made a joke of the USAC roadsters. History changed. F1 became the top motorsport!

3.5L v10 engine? 3.0 v10 turbocharged? v12? (this includes DRS and KERS!!)

current engines (2.4L V8) might do it without rev limiters, anything bigger would be very easy without other regulations.

also if there was no boost pressure limit, i imagine 1L of displacement for a t/c engine would be enough.
