  • A wondrously devoting, feeling and honest performance. This is a gift.. : )

  • wwwaaaaaaaaaaawwwweeeeeeeee that was good

  • shame there was a buzzing on the soundtrack

  • Yo Yo Ma <3

  • This is probably my favorite cello concerto ever. it's so romantic.. and my home boy yo-yo ma plays it beautifully!

  • The reason I began learning cello :D

  • He may be a tad overrated, but he's good. Beautiful song.

... lacks the rapture and passion that Rostropovich blessed it with, though..

  • so beautiful

  • Thank you for posting and sharing. Beautiful.

  • Guy I wish I could play as good as this guy. WOW just WOW.

  • merci pour ce réel ,instant de bonheur . joël Caplain - Frechet

  • I feel like crying ... without reason

  • And to think i have to play this in my orchestra

  • in a word....exquisite.

  • sublime

  • Where can I download this?

  • 0:00 That must be John Williams

  • Saint-Saens' Swan Song. Geddit? Swan song? Hahahahaha. OK, it's bedtime.

  • @cadmus98 dude, i have to admit this made me chuckle my ass off...it's one of those "it's so tired it's funny" type of jokes....loved it!

  • @cadmus98 a crib?

  • Two great legends together amazing!

  • Saint Sense's music speaks vollums to me. In this, I don't hear a man playing the chello. I hear the gentile magnifigance and grace of one of the most beautiful of god's creatures.

  • John Williams is conducting!!!!

  • My 30 year old daughter's brother-in-law, another great cellist, played this piece at her memorial service nearly seven years ago. He played The Swan because it represented so much of who my daughter was. It moved me as much as anything has ever moved me that day and any day I hear it...still

  • this piece is beautiful no matter who plans it.

  • Magnifique !

  • @NoahSV I remember when I was a viola player, jealous of real musicians

  • captivating

  • He is a musician. So important is the sound. Face does not matter.

  • Comment removed

  • The rubato is completely ill planned and sickening.

  • @NoahSV 3 comments in a row ? lol fuck off

  • His face looks like Lang Lang's. To me it's saying, "Mama, look what I can do!"

  • I don't know about other orchestra classes, but in my cello class, we ALL make the cello face :)

  • Have you ever filmed your face when yr doing something you care about ? You look really stupid, unless yr a botox brain, - then you look worse.. for gods sake, it's about the music.

  • No coment.

  • I sort of have a crush on Mr. Ma. Love that dark, boyish look.

  • @ 188043 Do not look at him, or try to find, if possible, someone completely unimpressive that plays like a robot, but with the same talent as maestro Yo Yo Ma.

    Happy New Year!!!

  • He plays amazing, he really does, but he looks like he's making love with the cello X)

  • @INSOMNIAC624 oh my gosh, you are so disgusting.:-o you know kids look at these comments too.

  • what's wrong with his face? it's pure emotion!! some people really have feelings, some just don't... It's absolutely lovely.

  • @enkibumbu *his YO face

  • This video went viral on Mexico

  • Unbalievable.

    I play this on.....accordion!

  • Can I say Yo kicks ass on the cello?

  • It's ALL in the way you hold your mouth....

  • He was having an orgasm the whole time he was playing this...

  • @Vaphex You are sick!!!!!!!

  • If u want to see some epic cello, then search 2 cellos playing smooth criminal

  • I wish I knew how to play the cello :(

  • i came to learn how to make passionate faces while playing, but this isnt the one

  • this piece always makes me cry

  • I fully agree, Oh how joyful I became, hearing and watching him as he performs the notes of tears as I sit and listen with tears. How wonderful your sound, your expressions makes this Video a God sent.

  • you don't see Yo-Yo opening his eyes because he is enjoying this piece.

  • I can play this song on the cello!!! Such as beautiful piece.

  • think of him as a dying black swan, and hold your tongue

  • he didnt care , he was in another place in another world when he was playing this.

  • I know this is a musical and all, but I can't keep a straight face when I watch this...

  • this guy has inspired me to play the cello since the 4th grade

  • I started in 3rd. Still play. Best sounding instrument.

  • It's such a pity that when these videos are made they focus so much on anything else around, and from odd angles to the musician, zooming in and out instead of finding ONE good angle for one to see the full instrument with full frontal view of the player. This way one can fully appreciate the musician!

  • im 15 and my orchestra is playing this piece right now and it is absolutely beautiful, but even listening to such beauty, i can't hold my laugh when i look at the guy's face xD

  • lets forget the appearance and relax with this perfection! fuck you if the face is a "climax face " or other thing! and if you can't listen to this without laugh for his face, sorry but you is a....

With this beautiful piece dont need to see anything, only the instruments, and his hands working in complete harmony.

  • Climax face!

  • Well psshaww of course he looks chinese

  • Oh gosh I can't believe I spelled his name right...... I didn't even know how.....

  • face= seriuosly disturbing

  • My brother played this on the cello.

I can play it on the cello as well.

But Yo Yo Ma, he can perfect it.

  • Fucking great. I'm OK with his O face. Deserved.

  • @enkibumbu he feels so much deeper than most people. that is what makes him a genius

  • the dynamic shift at 2:07 is almost surreal

  • Was this and is on a recording? Where can I find?

  • Truly beautiful....need not look at him>>>

  • gross.

  • I was sitting in the front row of Jordan Hall in Boston Massachusetts, and heard Yo-Yo Ma play this same beautiful solo. Met him in person while he was getting his bow rehaired at a music store in Boston on another occasion. Very down-to-earth, nice person.

  • 0:44 looks like he's jacking off

  • @ntpropst he probably jacks off to this, thats why ;)

  • Does anyone know what key this is in?

  • @bitemarciasdust G major:)

  • why does he look like a gerbil?!? XD. kidding aside, this is a pretty song :)

  • I'm sorry....this is a beautiful piece but I just cannot watch it seriously with that look on his face

  • @188043

i couldn't help laughing either after reading your comment!

    hahaha

However, this is truly truly beautiful!!!!!!

  • @188043 you just gave me the urge to stick a knife in your eye socket

  • @xbasket12x Go ahead...as long as you don't go for my ear drums too. The man looks like he's having an orgasm the entire time he is playing this piece.

  • @188043 he is having an orgasm

  • @xbasket12x I'd rather watch the version uploaded by "larpurnu" instead.

  • @188043 It's called concentartion... .__. Seriously, I play cello, and one of the boys I know play it too. HE IS A GOD. But he looks so silly! And he plays piano and sings too.. He looks silly on all three! I've concluded that to concentrate and play nicely, you will have to let your prettyness go XD

  • @188043 Then I suggest you close your eyes.

  • @188043 i agree xD it had my cracking up :3

  • @188043

hi son, that is God's face!

  • @188043 Then...don´t watch it! Close your eyes and just listen to it...that´s what music is really meant for. And...just for the record, this happens to be one of the very best interpretations (performance) of this piece!

  • That face is a face of him playing in perfection.

  • @josPerkins101 look like he is having orgy .

  • @188043 Listen with your soul - the eyes have no importance when listening ( you people must be followers of so called classical musique)

  • @188043 That is why he is brilliant he plais withe very ounce of his body but what does it relly matter it is your ears that should pay attention to his music not what he looks like.

  • @188043 have to agree!

  • @188043 exactly my thoughts, especially after watching Hauser's imitation of him

  • He will forever inspire me to continue playing the cello. I really hope to meet him one day.

  • For a moment I could waves lapping against my boat,Oh yea,I don,t have a boat but if I did yo yo would be the captian.

  • i absolutely LOVE everything about the Cello, even though i play violin and have a passion for it, i want SOO badly to learn how to play the Cello:/ Yo-Yo Ma is amazing, You can tell he has a passion for what he does <3

  • Somehow I perfer Jian Wang's playing of the Swan. This doesn't mean Yo Yo Ma is bad but just my preference. I found Wang's playing is not to slow (dragging) or too soft (dieing) but very intense and huntingly beautiful.

  • @bkctsoi don't u think his style could express the elegance and delicateness of the swan...

  • "Fools are my theme, let satire be my song."

    –Lord Byron

  • This is so enchanting... ♥

  • fantastic melody !!!

  • As Victor Borge once said, The difference between a violin and a viola is that a viola burns longer...

  • wow... so into the beautiful song <3

u can FEEELLL the MUSIC flowing into you...

    do i make sense? lol

  • @chae201

You make perfect sense - his music goes right into my heart and into my bones - what a master he is.

    God bless.

  • I played this on the piano!!! I just realized it...does anyone have the cello music for it? I can't find it...

  • @iceyfrost141 google it, theres plenty

  • Is this song heard in any of the New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh episodes?

  • those facial expression are what is called having a musical orgasm

  • 44 people need SHOOTING its impossilbe to dislike something so beautifully perfect

  • this some grade A shit

  • ah this shits nice

  • This is absolutely amazing. This is how The Swan should be played. Breathtakingly beautiful.

  • O.O my goal in life. To play like him, facial expressions and all, dude. xD

  • he.gives.me.goosebumps <3

  • no sheet music... just amazing

  • ha...his face is just so...out of this world....

  • @abbybot87 When you're as awesome as he is you can make whatever ridiculous expression you feel like and still be considered cool :D I wish I could be that good... I think it'd be fun to make faces XP

  • this is AMAZING. BREATH-TAKING.

  • no words....no freaking words to describe the pure perfection i'm feeling from this song right now. amazing.

  • damn static..

  • perfection

  • so clean

  • This is THE cello solo. This is what you're trying to achieve when you're playing cello. :)

  • very good

  • imma play this if i get top comments! (i only played less than1 year) so dont hate if i do get top comments

  • I'm playing this- it's so hard to get the first few notes bang on. Not to mention the rest of it! Wish I could play like this

  • Ouvir Yo-Yo Ma tocar é smepre uma experiência divina, principalmente quando ele toca Bach.

    A entrega dele é à música é total, a técnica é perfeita, a sonoridade é belíssima.

Eu realmente admiro profundamente este homem pela beleza que é capaz de produzir, pela simpatia que pratica, pelo ser humano que é e pelo brilhante músico que se tornou.

O mundo seria menor sem a música que ele produz.

  • Listen to Yo-Yo Ma is playing smepre a divine experience, especially when he plays Bach. The delivery of it is the music is total, the technique is perfect, the sound is beautiful. I really deeply admire the beauty that this man is capable of producing, by sympathy practiced by human beings and that is the brilliant musician who has become. The world would be less without the music it produces. Greetings from Brazil.

  • Is that John Williams conducting?

  • MERVEILLEUSE VERSION DE YO-YO MA MERCI AMITIÉ RAYMOND !!

  • Great performance, great piece. But the hiss in the audio is killing me.

  • him and Eicca Toppinen should collabourate

  • Trying to learn how to play this for school

  • @creteslasher149 LOL I have to do an assignment on him for school Too!!

  • Why should he hide his passionate feelings for the music he is playing? If he were to play music while looking like a stone, I imagine the music would also sound stiff and bereft of feeling.

  • @1operamom To the contrary, i've heard incredible musicians who stand stiff as a board while playing. But I get your point.

  • Yo-Yo Ma sets a new standard for the word profound

  • You who don't like his face playing this beautiful and touching piece with all his soul, go to the video in which he plays to Bobby Mc Ferrin.Different songs, different feelings, different faces. It's all about sentiment.Have you ever heard about it?

  • I've never seen such a big violin.

  • @99jiklop ..thats a cello...

  • @99jiklop you're probably trolling, but that's a cello, friend

  • @99jiklop Is not "BIG" the violin... but the player is very small..

  • @99jiklop hmmm....more like a small bass. weird huh?

  • @99jiklop Dear God, please tell me you're joking.

  • @cnmpiano Gee, what do you think?

  • @99jiklop Apparently not everyone appreciates quality sarcasm. 1 point you, 0 points those people.

  • @bpemrclean Unless all those other people are actually being sarcastic as well... hmmm.....

  • Comment removed

  • @99jiklop thats cause its a cello >.< MORON

  • @TBGrygotis Are you that brainless? Go get a dictionary and look up the word "sarcasm."

  • @gamefreek41795 FUCK YOU maybe he thinks its really a fucking violin you asswipe

  • @TBGrygotis You're defending a fallacy? Why would everyone give thumbs up to that if they thought the guy were serious? It was obviously a satirical comment, so stop making yourself look more foolish.

  • @gamefreek41795 FUCK YOU get a life butch

  • @TBGrygotis Brilliant argument.

  • This literally gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it. The piece sounds so fragile, pure and from the heart when Yo-Yo Ma plays it.... It's Amazing what that man can do.

  • Tanto placer al oirla... que maravilla

  • He feels his music not just plays it but feels it , that is what makes him great at it.

  • Classical music has always moved me almost unbearably, my point being that the intensity, concentration, ecstasy and even sorrow that alternately play across his face are not odd to me at all; in fact, although I miss not a single note or nuance watching his videos, I cannot take my eyes off his face because his emotional responses are a joy to behold and share in. He cannot help but bare his soul while playing, and this for me induces only awe and an almost reverent appreciation.

  • To all the people joking about his facial expressions - he can worry about his face and make lackluster music, or he can worry about the MUSIC and to hell with how his face looks. Given the unadulterated beauty/emotion in his playing, who gives a shit how his face looks? The rest of us mortals can only IMAGINE the incredible feeling of having music like that move THROUGH you, of being so enraptured by the process of bringing such emotion to life that everything disappears (even 100s of people)
