Oh. I simply used my CD POUCH of abt 20CDs in it to act as paper weight on the Dreamcast cover or lid. at least it temp solved this problem.. Hope this tip helps.
I've got rid of a couple of Dreamcasts because of this problem, damn it all to Hell!! The games are great & the DC is an ace console, but what a screw up when the console starts dodgley doing things its way ("I fancy playing Virtua Tennis....oh the DC f**kin' deosn't"). This is the only games system that i know of that has this type of fault. Maybe its a build in critic of our games collections.
the cd case, its a black little thing. wrap the tape thight around it. and put the case back up. check it the case opens and closes correcly. and then boot up a game and the dreamcast will play perfectly for life. for some of you , you only have to do the last step with the tape. some others might have to do the pin connecter trick to. good luck and if anyone has problems PM me and ill be glad to help you fix your dreamcast
omg.. PEOPLE!! IF YOU WANT A REAL FIX FOR LIFE LISEN REAL GOOD. screw your dreamcast open. look to the left and you will see a part that you can screw loose. its the power part. pil it chently up and you see a connector about 4 pins i think. clean them real good. and then bent them a little bit you way all the pins so they make a better fit in the connector. then take a thin peace a tape. and wrap it around the little connector thing on the right top of the dreamcast the thing that connects
@NLmaxdamage Your advice makes more sense than the simple botched quick fix featured in this vid. Had problems with my X-Box. I did a proper maintenance & now it works like a Dream!
Well, It worked at the beginning, but with the time it started to fail. So I decided to do not waste more time and toke apart the console and fixed the problem, wich was the lever that determinates when the lid is opened and when not.
yeah, i used to have it taped like this(halfway closed) :D but now it works right, i just cleaned tha thing inside that tells for the system when lid is closed.
thank you! man, this actually worked. i couldn't believe it since i had this random start problem for more than a year. thought my dc finally gave it up. now i could play agaian. hehe

@InuMoon2323 The main reason why people get rid of them. Shame really, they're great consoles other wise.

i have two dreamcasts, and one i got off ebay had reset issues. i'll take it out of storage and try this method
EBTL0947 2 years ago
Well, this worked for a month, but later the resets started to appear again.
So, this time i used an elastic band instead of a game box, and it works fine! Neither a reset yet.
Give a try ^^
Bye.
