Clown Shoes is a strange song title but maybe the writer was trying to cash in on the popularity of another clown song about that time. The lyrics aren't in the same league as Cathy's Clown though. It's not my favorite Johnny Burnette record but he did a lot more with it than P.J. Proby did. Johnny took this ordinary tune and gave it his own brand of country. You can't beat that growl at :32 for added sex appeal either!
I heard this and said thats a nice song a couple of years ago, Next birthday my son bought me a vinyl copy plus a pair of clown shoes, Last birthday a red nose and daft bow tie, What next year?
Brilliant singing from JB of the ultimate put-down song.
