This album always put me in trance. Stunning tune who give me a moment of a winter day when you walking in the snow and the sun gives you energi move on to springtime.
I had this album back then but moved around a lot and lost it in the process. Always rated it very highly and great to be reacquainted with these bits of it. The short instrumentals are so moving. I seem to remember there was a track called The Bride of Christ in Autumn, wasn't there? Any chance of posting that?
There used to be an air compressor at work that made exactly that underlying note (middle G), you can imagine how all day this tune was in my head. I didn't mind though.
I worked on this album and it never left me - Bill has magic and inventiveness seldom seen. I helped him build his Echo Observatory studio at his house and recorded several more albums and singles (plus there was a band tour in '84 of this music and Getting The Holy Ghost Across). I am so pleased to see how respected and appreciated Bill's anti-commercialism and ingenius projects live on - Shine on! ;~}
What an amazing musician ! Bill has always been 1 of my favourite artists since the days of Bebop Deluxe ! Too bad his extraordinary talent has never been appreciated as it should !
I used to joke that he'd apparently sold his soul to the devil. Not for commercial success, but for the ability to make the music HE wanted to make album after album, regardless of whether or not anyone else cared about it. I'm still in awe of his talent.
phoenixx100 - Yes, Bill Nelson is certainly an under appreciated artist. This is one of my favorite albums. It is obviously a product of the early 80's, but there is also a timeless quality about it. Bill Nelson just doesn't sound like anybody else..... a true original.
Thanks very much for posting this! I owned and constantly played this album all throughout the end of the '80s. Am just now getting into Be Bop Deluxe, but have always been a huge Bill Nelson fan. Wish that more people appreciated him and his wonderful sense of musical artistry...

This album discovered me in the late 80's, and I've never let go. I think it's one of the most brilliant albums of all time.

Very cool. Portrait Of Jan is my personal favorite. The piano is beautiful. Of course, the entire album is flawless.
