purchasing a dog from a store in the city is a BAD idea... most of those puppies come from puppy mills..... try the pound or a dog rescue.

@nikki2579 i know many pet stores use puppy mills, and people are very passionate about this topic but Citipups DOES NOT USE PUPPY MILLS. they only work with breeders and that's a big part of why we decided to work with them.

@Charmedlassie18 i can assure you that i did my research before working with citipups. they do not use mills, which is why every puppy they sell comes with the contact info of the registered breeder the dog came from. if you have an issue with how citipups runs their business i encourage you to reach out to them or contact the breeders that work with them.

Vito ups website says that they only deal with USDA registered breeders, well, any REPUTABLE breeder would never, ever sell to a puppy store. I can guarantee that all these "registered" breeders are out in the Midwest-Missouri, Kansas, etc. Any breeder that I have ever met or dealt with wants to meet or talk with the future owner of one of their dogs. You guys are very talented and funny but please do your research before you support a hole like this one. This store is an obvious front for a pu

@JeanannO while i'm sure you've worked with a lot of breeders, it's impossible for you to have worked with every breeder and therefore can't guarantee that breeders never work with pet stores. obviously, some do because that's where Citipups gets their puppies. you're obviously very passionate about this issue and while i respect that, i take issue with you questioning my intelligence and ability to make sure we were supporting a reputable brand.

I'm surprised anybody is willing to come out and openly support pet stores/breeders these days with all the political correctness about puppy mills and the whole "buying a dog kills an adoptable one" thing.

@HousePetMarla we chose to work with Citipups specifically because they don't get their puppies from mills. they only work with certified breeders. personally, both of my dogs are rescues. Fil was found roaming around a parking lot without any ID and was kept for a month by his temporary owner before we adopted him, and Kaya was abandoned in a dumpster on South Beach :P i support rescuing dogs but I know it's not for everyone and many people want pure bred puppies

@northernSars my dogs are actually both rescues and i support pet adoption. Citipups also hosts monthly pet adoption drives in their store through a local shelter. While there's a lot of negative stigma surrounding pet stores, not all pet stores are bad. Citipups only works with certified breeders and has been providing healthy puppies to New Yorkers for 20 years. while pet adoption is ideal, not everyone can do it, and not everyone can drive out to the country to purchase from a breeder.

@chescaleigh A lot of pet stores say that. Look up the USDA standards for certified breeders. It isnt very high and a lot of people do a lot of work right before inspection then go back to doing everything in a shitty manner, there are undercover vids on youtube if you want to view them. There is negative stigma because it is warranted, there is no such thing as a good puppy store (even if they say so). No good breeder would sell their puppies to a pet store.

@chescaleigh I think it is great that they hold adoption events, but its not like the pet store screens the people buying the puppies before they go to their new homes. They are sold like other small animals. TBH I think any selling of any animal is a pet store is awful. As far as health goes, its easy to keep a puppy healthy for the time being, the real kicked is 5months-2 years after a puppy is purchased and genetic defects pop up :\.
