@op10004 cost of living is high. I lived in Skagway in 2006 for a summer. It is SOOO worth it. I paid 225 for rent... and shared a house with about 6 other people.... Hard to find a place to live if you don't do it early. Everything is a bit more expensive... but such a good time to get to know people and the weather is gorgeous.... along with the scenery... okay.. so when i was there... it rained... ALOT but it was so gorgeous.. and you can't leet the rain stop yah from doing anything...
@0711geerdes $225 for rent thats cheap an it sounds like you had a lot of fun out there. im thinking of heading out there on vacation some time in 2013 hopefully the hotels aren't expensive.
I moved here in May, a few days after the first ships arrived. I have to say, after living in Arkansas for almost 28 years, this is def a change for me ! From what I can see, the town hasn't changed much since this video was taken. For being such a small town, there is alot to do . It does take some getting use to all the tourist in town.
Skagway is pretty, but it is a bit commercialized for me. That being said I did go on the helicopter flight to the glacier. However,I also spent two nights in the little town of Dyea outside of Skagway. it was much more quite out there and a lot of history too.
We enjoyed our time in Skagway. We rode the White Pass train trip and enjoyed Ravens Brew Coffee at the Depot. We got to spend a little time shopping in town before disembarking for our next port. Would have loved to spend more time there. Great video would love to do a helicopter tour. Maybe next time.
Reminds me of "White Fang", which was screened in Alaska :D. It is not a very thrilling movie but it is beautiful and is scored with wonderful music. :) Can you tell me if the Golden Gate, or Golden Staircase still excists? I would really like to be there soon :). Just never stop dreaming, thats all I can do I think and if I won't give up it will come true someday :)
I would like to see the Northern Lights just once in my life. At the writing of the this comment, end of February, would this time a year be a good time to visit Alaskan Pan Handle to accomplish this goal? I'm sending this comment and others like it today, trying to decide where to go on my vacation and see the Lights (at the last minute).
@packjim56 The sky has to be dark which means the lights unfortunately can't be seen in summer. The best months are March and September; that's when there are: 1) frequent displays, 2) clear skies, and 3) generally mild weather.
I hated this place. I went there to visit my friend who was working out there for the summer yes it look nice in the pictures and on video but living there omg its sooo horrible. Guys stare at the girls not even in a cool flirty way but in a really digusting perveted way ew. I would nv go to skagway ever!! Go for one or two days its has really cool stuff to do like this beautiful hike and a dog sleds stuff like that then yes go but other then that don't go.
i miss these mountains.

Skagway is cool town to visit. Lots of nice stores, attractions and places to eat for its small size. It can get pretty crowded at times.
