  • Natures only purpose is to serve man we have close to 7 billion souls on the planet. Earth feeds them well and 5 billion more mouths to feed by 2100. An economy that refuses to pave over the land is an economy that losses. It is called Growth it is called GNP and it is a function of forest and farm land being bull dozed and paved for mega malls , McMansions , Athletic Fields , Car Dealerships. and hundreds of thousands of miles of new road. LOL

  • No aloha spirit. Go home

  • Wow, This is 4 years old!

Why would semi-native Hawaiians mess with tourists, cause they didn't buy their fruit and the tourist bitched about the natives being greedy?

No way, the tourists -what ever race he was- is irrelevant, he probably had a "I'm superior" attitude and wasn't logical enough to argue with an un friendly hawaiian.... That's sad. He came all that way to make a enemy when he should of made a friend. Peace Hawaiian brothers, I hope to join you as family when I move there.

  • An Island is ether growing or dieing I lived on Kauai Hawaii for more then six years and I still believe sticking your head in the sand and saying not in my back yard will not work. the people will still come and build only now you will have no say. An place is ether growing or dieing. which one do you choice?

  • they dont work on the infrastructure because we dont want anymore people to ruin and pollute the land with their stupid hummers and olive gardens. . and for those of you with vacation homes that maybe see them a few days out of the year, i hope you are getting foreclosed on. sorry, but you ruin the aloha spirit when you fly in and act like your shit dont stink. come visit, spend money and dont forget to go home.

  • Its always the white man that is hurting everyone.Try looking at your own kind and you might see the sell outs of your own people. The blacks in Africa had black slave drivers making money..Every color or nationality has their bad ones but it isn't a white man who is all at fault.

I do respect the desire to keep the island beautiful but calling others white man , n-word or haole whatever that really means is showing total ignorance , find a better way if you really care.

  • I am ashamed to be white, I live in Kauai and respect the locals because they deserve the respect. SAd, like the WHITE guy that owns Kilohana making millions at the hawaiians expense. Guys like him getting rich, while locals just get poorer... not f@cking fair to the poor people whose housing costs are through the roof.

  • I wonder if Ms Koohan Paik was born on Kauai or came from Korea? It seems ironic that she wants to protect the island from outside development when she has moved there and is living there and contributing every dat to the pollution and traffic. I've visited Kauai and it's a wonderful place, I think we should leave it in the care of the native peoples and arrogant Haole who want to move there but keep everybody else out should hold silent.

  • It is beautiful for now, but if development continues of those million dollar plus homes and condos it won't stay beautiful long. I agree with the original video -- it needs to be stopped or slowed down.

We've been there to vacation and it's obvious that the locals are suffering the consequences of the tourist industry. Who is getting rich of this? Not the locals I bet. I'd be angry too.

  • We need to start just ignoring the nonsense haoles disseminate throughout our lives. Just ignore them and move towards the betterment of our families, lands, Kupuna, and souls. no need extended debates about whether tourist are good for us. Their not. Just ignore them and try to find ways to full fill our kuleana and responsibilities to our lands and Kupuna. Eventually haole arrogance will get whats coming to it. In the mean time...find ways to not replicate their colonial mentalities.

  • whoeva made this video came kauai and was acking stupid with the "locals" and caught cracks and was all sour. hopefully, but is sad how everybody who come here think they get all the rights cause is part of the united states..B.S, cause they came here and throw our queen in jail lock her and steal this land. maybe somebody should lock up our leader. NOCOMEKAUAI.

  • How dumb can you get? Kauai depends on tourism now that the sugar plantation has closed down. FYI, HAOLE = Foreigner. So, unless you full blooded hawaiian you're haole too. I suggest some economic classes before trying to put your two cents into Hawaiian politics. Its not the tourists you should get mad at, its your government. The people you voted for that are turning a blind eye to make some money. Where you think the money to clean up Polihale after the land slide came from? Educate yourself.

  • Thats a pity. I mean the island is so beautiful with a lot of nature. Everybody who has the privilege to live there should be very thankful and appreciate it.

  • I am a local i was born and raised here my family been here for four generations that video has alot of true stuff traffic is bad at times there are alot of new condos and hotels but its in places where there has always been hotels and condos Kauai is still Kauai its beautiful lush and untouched in many places its still the best and most beautiful place to visit i went on vacation for three weeks to the mainland and let me tell you there is no place like my home my Kauai

  • Typical Haole talk. SHADAP and GET OFF.

The most common reason Haoles come to kauai: "We really felt the spirit of the island when we first came here for a vacation. The island called to us and we wanted to be a part of the island and get away from all the problems in the mainland."

    GIVE ME A BREAK!

  • I feel sorry for the residents I was there and saw hardly any locals and lots of traffic...I would be mad if I was a local!

  • I didn't think the traffic was bad at all when I was there on New Years, it's not like it was bumper to bumper or anything. I don't think tourism should be banned or anything after all the economy depends on it, but the rich people living there is horrible, the natives should be the only ones that live there, but this isn't a perfect world.

  • exactly dtchris08 so we no need mo peepo moving here 2 become "residents"

  • i live here on kauai all my life and thank so much for posting such a vid... im 28 years old hawaiian mix.. this island will no longer be .THE GARDEN ISLAND... due to over development of condos and hotels... WE DONT NEED no more OF THAT.. we have to much..they should worrie about the people who is and was born here in hawaii ..

  • We are visiting Hawaii / Kauai in May, thank you for letting us know about the traffic jams so we can plan ahead, seriously we don't mind the traffic jams and over development in housing estates. (we live in Sydney Australia). I am sure we can still find somewhere which still has the touch of nature in Kauai. It is only bad for the residents there who has to suffer this issue.

  • keep making your videos...it's a great idea and its getting everyones attention

  • Koohan Paik = talented and beautiful

  • modern world = greed = apathy towards others

  • hmmm. Just another retirement home for the wealthy...

  • All this is true because the government officials are whores. Things like SUNSET KAHILI, POIPU SHORES, SHERATON KAUAI, etc., etc., are abominations.

  • I live on Kauai and I say the video looks very bad but it is 100% true.

  • The Discover Kauai Video is not bad, its so true! Try having to wake up in extra hour early just to reach Lihue (only about 20-30 minutes away in the morning, noon, and evening! Try drive down rice strret any time of the day. Cars cars and more cars. Poipu is going to be the new gated community. There's now 5 major condominiums, hotels, etc all in 10 miles less of a town. Kukuiula. Koloa Landing. Royal Palms. Wainani. And extending the Hyatt. where am i going to live?

  • Don't worry, you guys! Capitalism will take care of everything! ...especially after the degredation of our island, after which few will want to visit. Yayyyyy! No more crowds of tourists! Even the rich haoles will move away, YAYYYYY! I'm so glad that linda lingle supports boldstering our economy during her term with rampant overdevelopement to foster an industry that we should be moving away from. I'm being sarcastic. Shit's gonna hit the fan. Are you ready?

  • haoles need to just beat it..

  • Thanx.. I didn't know how to spell haoles. :) I'm a haole and I agree. Haoles should only be allowed to visit at the discretion of native Hawaiians.

  • Why does everybody need a car??

  • You'd think that on a small island like that, that mass transit would make more sense. However, the traffic probably comes from the resident cars, more than from the tourists.

  • Yes, I guess that, too. But I mean; it's a small island. Why don't they take e.g. a bike?

  • Kapaa is GRIDLOCK I tell u. almost as bad or worse than rush hour on Oahu. I almost missed my flight back to Honolulu.

  • look at traffic in LA or New York... the traffic is way worse there!! what difference does it make here or there?? just leave a few hours earlier and DEAL WITH IT!!!

  • okay first of all the way that it is in LA is about the same as in OAHU...kauai is a different island because of the fact that the island only has 2 lanes...one going north and east and one going south and west...oahu on the other hand has freeways and the traffic is dead stop for at least 5 minutes..

  • as small as it seems there is a LONG stretch of road. riding could take just as long as waitin in traffic.

  • Ok, good point. I thought that are only a few miles. (That would be no problem, by bike)

Does somebody know how long it takes to drive from the south to the north end?

    e.g. from lihue to kilauea?

  • I can't give u an estimate time but all I can say is ITS LONG!

  • I hope I will soon be able to see it by myself;)

  • Depends on the time of day how long it takes to get through Kapaa. One time without an accident it took 1.5 hours just to get from Kealia Beach just to the other side of Kapaa at Haleilio Rd at the shell station just to make my turn home.

  • hahaha lihue is east and kilauea is north east-ish

    id say it takes abouut..hmm

    forty minutes problyy?

now if ur talking about going from south(poipu) to north (princeville), that would be about an hour

  • Ahhh, the media tries to save Kauai and shame the Planning Department and the Mayor for their parts in the demise of Kauai, and the problem is truly that of unbalance with a severe lack of infrastructure, improper and inadequate planning that has been led by greedy politicians and County of Kauai Department Heads who have sold out and made money selling Kauai, not protecting it for future generations. They are terrible examples of stewards of the land.

  • Good for you guys!

  • AH love it you know!

  • come to kauai to sit in traffic.

    its all too true.

developement has to cease till a traffic plan for the future is in place.
