  • This is a simple form of electrolosis

  • @jcost2012 Shut up, it's obviously magic

  • Vodka...

  • now drink it

  • It's probably ethanol or methanol. I'd go with methanol, ethanol tends to give a bigger flame.

PhD Chemist specializing in biofuels such as bioethanol.

  • @coldfission I have an opinion and need to make sure everybody agrees so i put a random title in it.

  • @Kokswijk It's not a random title, it's my job.

  • Hydrogen made by battery?

    or other chemicals?

  • how did yo film? with a banana?=

  • accually water does burn at 8000 degrees

  • thas alcohol

  • I bet there is some African going ape shit at this video right now.

  • @henryolohan Why exactly?

  • nice ethanol or alchohol

  • @akinorhan5 Number (1) Ethanol IS Alcohol. If you want to know more about alcohols (Methanol, Ethanol, propanol, butanol and Hexanol for example) then PM me.

    2) It isn't. The batteries remove hydrogen from the water molecule - its the Hydrogen thats burning. Basic electrolysis.

  • @thompo555 hydrogen exlposes

  • @akinorhan5 It might explode under certain conditions, like containing it. As would any Alcohol. Heck, you can get coal to explode under the right conditions.

This hydrogen is forming slowly and is not confined, hence it is not explosive. Before you say it, H2O is not flamible..

  • @akinorhan5 @akinorhan5 In the defence of Thompo555, he is correct. Going by your logic light a match and the Earth's atmosphere would explode. There is Hydrogen molecules in the air all the time. It has to be highly concentrated. Even a lab experiment performed purely to create Hydrogen doesn't produce enough in a small enough volume to explode. Therefore in this perticular video your Hydrogen explosion logic is invalid.

  • @pooeyyeoop1 who are you?

  • @akinorhan5 Someone who last night was laughing at you trying to prove a great friend of mine wrong.

  • i think i know how to make water burn get a glass of water (half-full) put a little gas in it and light a match and put it in there try it and if that didn't work it's up to you to find out how cause just think i don't know if it would work but if u smell gas in the air don't light a match or else

  • Lol how many people went to try this, I would of if I didn't read the comments.

  • FUCK YOU! OUR TEACHER GOT MAD BECAUSE OF THIS. I GOT THIS AS MY EXPERIMENT. SHE WAITED FOR ME BUT NOTHING FUCKING HAPPENED.

  • lol -.-

i work as a chemist and i can promise u that shit will not work

  • wankers!

  • I tried it today and guess what... It didn't work at all =/ This video/myth is totally busted!

  • Don't U believe it (or waste time trying it ) !

There should be a "Disclaimer Attached"

something like P.T. Barnum famous quote.

  • ha! So it is fake

  • fkin r-tards. he stuffed 2 batteries into the water...does sulfuric acid mean anything to you?

  • yeah no sir this is not how it works omg lol

  • Redox reaction

  • water is made of oxygen and hydrogen wich burns. volts or voltages make the to gas components seperate

  • This must be terrible for the environment.

  • Test four WORKED! But not well. When I lit the collected gas it was not sustainable, it was more like a firecracker going of and then there was no more flame.

So in conclusion is it possible? Yes But a feasible fore of flame? No

  • I tried this in four ways. one just water (the control test) Two the way it is on the video. Three with salt water. and four with salt water with a bag and rubber bands on the top of the glass. Test one nothing happened. Test two nothing happened. Test three did produce hydrogen but hydrogen is lighter then air so it dissipated to fast to burn. Read post two for the rest.

  • why dont u swim in my toilet

  • &orz

  • not the water that burns...

  • So many tards commenting here. Its obvious he just swaps the water for methylated spirits or some similar alcohol iduring one of the cuts.

Water does not burn if you chuck an AA battery in it.

  • YOU'RE WRONG DICKHEAD

  • LOL meurigjenkins raged.

You'd think that if AA batteries were so dangerous, they'd be banned from being taken aboard aircraft. All a terrorist needs to do is ask for a glass of water once onboard and they can cause a massive fire.

  • your retards its not fake the battery acid is lighting also he is dumb it can EXPLODE

  • lol "battery acid"

They are alkaline batteries, and they are sealed.

Now look munters, it is possible to split water into hydrogen and oxygen and burn that by running an electric current through, it then catch the hydrogen gas and burn it. But there is no way in hell you'll get a decent hydrogen yield from a 1.5V AA.

This is just faked by swapping the water for some flamable liquid.

  • it would be better with a swimming pool......

  • you reminded me of dane cook

"jimmy gtfo from on op of me!"

  • FAKE!!!He burns ethyl alcohol

  • water itself can actually burn if we substitute fluorine for air.

  • Water can actually burn in special conditions...

Ive been told that when water is near an extremely hot fire(Tunnel fire, mine fire ect..) That it will actually burn.

  • -first of all; the batteries are too weak to split water in H2 and O

-second; H2 is very explosive and it won't burn for long, its a short quick flame, so it doesnt has anything to do with that.

-I fairly think he mixed water with alcohol and it will flame like that :)

  • yeah tupac i very much agree with your thesis... The batteries' acids arent enough to split H2 and H2 evaporates too fast(u didnt not that) so.. yeah it wun burn

  • if that's not water burning its most likely alcohol iv done it most of the time you can't see they flame but that dosnt mean its not burning and if you let it burn to long it normally cracks the glass that it is in and goes pretty much all over

  • ummmmm bateris have carbon in it which could produce carbon monoxide and could make you in danger y not use alcohol

  • THIS dosent work tried it over 10 times its never going to work scientifically proven

  • L'ho fatto ma non mi è venutooo!!! :(

  • although this video is fake (the hydrogen and oxygen would disperse and even if they hadn't its wrong type of flame) to anyone claiming that water doesn't burn; look up electrolysis of water.

still don't believe me? then send me a message, i'll post up a vid proving you wrong.

  • lol, thats the same flame you get when you light up moonshine! xD

  • u ass why out batteries in it.. u can just put alkohole

  • hmmm... you have, invented the future gas for cars!

  • Lol vodka dispenser

  • fuckin idiot IT DOSENOT WORK!!!!!!!!! >:(

  • haha, that is an awesome idea.. i have never thought of having a vodka dispenser in my fridge. kudos to you. haha

  • its probably just like vodca or some alcohol

  • it freaking didn't work!!! dumb ass!!

  • nic12344...

I'm not so sure. Alcohol burns with blue flames if I'm not mistaken... I am going to do this myself.

  • Isopropyl alchohal burns blue but the ethyl alchohal found in drinks don't burn blue.

  • are you all stupid or what? this guy just put some alcohol in the water..you can only make water burn with salt and radio frequency..use your brain next time..

  • yeah!!! my science teacher is a dumbass and tried to do this with us at class...its bullshit!

  • So, putting batteries into water obviously turns it into vodka. What do I need to put in there to make it turn into beer?

  • ive tryed and vodka dont burn but ya i want beer too :)

  • Vodka does burn, if it's warm enough (try it with a spoon and a lighter, and first hold the flame under the spoon for 20 seconds). Of course it has to be the real stuff, of at least 37.5% alcohol.

  • LMFAO

  • the glass should at least melt

  • no it would have to get to nearly 300 degree f to melt cman456100

  • if it was burning glass should brake

  • NO!!! p4ok4kiG4

  • Its cause the dipolar moment ...

  • thats sam buca

    the drink

  • awesome!!!!!!!

  • BREAKING NEWS~ The City Water Department went up in flames this morning, with water lines bursting into flames. When the Fire Department arrived with a tanker truck to try to put it out, several firefighters were burned when their fire hoses exploded, according to local police......

All humor aside, if we can master some sort of clean energy source that we can use to generate electricity without creating air, land and water pollution, and can find a clean way of taking it in our cars, Do It!

  • huH?

  • I watched the video a couple times or three. Wasn't something held above the glass after the match was lit and applied to the water? Something perhaps dumped in that was on fire, and that floats?

Youtube video is a little shaky on this computer.....

  • Yes well we all dream of doing that dont we...

  • i tried it and it didn't work

  • wow so many scientific reasonings here why it would work/ and works. I'm just curious how long would the flame burn for?

  • Looks to me very much like an alkohol flame.

  • dont work

  • Wow this is so fake. First off the batteries alone wouldn't be able to separate the H2 and O2 gases enough to make any real FLAMMABLE amount of H2 gas. IF ANY was created it would pop or lightly squeak and not create any sort of continuous flame. The hydrogen gas is lighter than air so it would rise and disperse, not be trapped between the air and the water. That is probably a weak alcohol he is burning because he took away the camera so much.

  • the battery decomposes the water into hydrogen and oxygen gases. the H2 and O2 are burning not the water.

  • just as said, the 02 and h2 will burn and become water again

  • when you leave the batteries in the water the electrical charge changes the water back into hydrogen and oxygen and it rises to the surface. that is burning not the water itself.

  • Exactly. We did this in science class once, but we put an upside-down container over the water to hold the hydrogen, because hydrogen rises.

  • How is this exactly what you did then? The hydrogen would have rose to the ceiling and dispersed then. It would have combusted all at once too instead of producing a continuous flame, if it was indeed trapped in the glass by magic.

  • Ugh, I missed that... -_-

But yeah, I did what I meant in science class but it was a little flash, not constant burning.

I'm going for weak alcohol then.

  • You can't just decompose water with batteries alone, you also need an anode and a cathode to seperate them into hydrogen and oxygen. Even if the water did seperate into hydrogen and oxygen it would rise into the air and disperse. This user obviously paused the recording and replaced the water with alchahol.

  • ^^ user above speaks the truth. a rarity on youtube :P

H and O's boiling tempretures are far below room temp so if this did work any of combustible gases would of evaporated.

however couldn't the positive and negative parts of the battery be used as the cathode and anode?

maybe upping the voltage and adding some salt to act as an electrolyte?

never tried get back to me if ya know

  • oh wow u r smart. because i dont hav a clue wat u just wrote and that looks really smart.LOL

  • thanks but i wouldn't say i'm smart, there are still plenty of things that i'm pretty ignorant about, people are smart in different ways, ya know?

translated with out using all the sciencey words its pretty much using electrically charged bits of metal shoved into water to act as magnets (sort of) to pull apart the Hydrogen and Oxygen which make up H2O.

altho if you lit the H and O it would explode in a pop, not in a continuos flame like this obviously faked vid shows.

  • wooow! that must be sooo UNhealthy!

  • no is one of the most enviromental friendly reactions of burning something

  • if the water was burning, wouldnt it be changing chemical form? like wood to carbon. and what is battery acid gunna do (if any gets out in 30 mins), your fulla crap

  • who sais it wasnt vodka?

  • this shit is sooooooo fake...

  • Lets see here...

    Water = H2O

    Alcohol = CnH2n+1OH

So...Carbon (from bad breath CO) + Water + 1 Free Hydrogen + Electricity = Alcohol?

    Mmmmmm...nnnnaaaaa...Could Be...

    Whats up Doc?

  • Shut the fuck up you nerd wanna-be. You're just a faggot trying to act like a nerd...

  • o.O somebody's off their meds :(

  • c now that i can understand thnx!

  • What a retard!

  • hey just cuz mdawgydog2 is not good at science does not mean they are a retard!

  • Salt water however apparently burns when exposed to radio waves.

  • idiot.. water is not combustible.. as the color of the fire it shows that it was an alcohol..

  • we know what you did you liar.you put lighter fluide in with the water.

  • ok all these people commenting sound waaaay too smart. i dont no wat there sayin but that was a really kewl tric!!!lol

  • 1) H2O can not combust

    2) H2 burns with blue flames!

    3) Electrolyzation requires sealed containers to collect the gases.

    4) AA Energizers today are non-acidic, nothing to leak.

Conclusion: Alcohol was added to the cup sometime during the experiment, thus we see dim bright yellow flames produced by combusting ethanol. IT'S A FAKE!

  • you sound like my science teacher cause i don't understand shit

  • @intellca Well explain that asshole

  • @handgun559 can't u read? u must be a inbred mfuker! fag, stop raping ur mom and get a life! but ppl like u don't deserve one!

  • @handgun559 can't u read? u must be a inbred mfuker! stop raping ur mom and get a life, but ppl like u don't even deserve a life

  • @intellca Damn, that is genius dude.

  • I don't think so.

    1) those batteries aren't powerful enough to electrolyse water. 2) even if they were, the H2 and O2 gas would visibly bubble up and escape. And like danpauselius said, the hydrogen would burn out rapidly and locally.

This is typically the effect of a water/alcohol mixture, where the alcohol vapors produce a steady soft fire.

  • Saw another vid that showed this is BS. Water will burn like this if alcohol is wixed with water. Hydrogen is a volitile gas that will burn quickly (pop) and then extinguish.

I haven't tried this yet so I can't be sure, but I'm doubtful that this actually works.

  • is the fire in the water gets to bigg how do you take the fire out? well, you cant do it with water or it will make it bigger! lol

  • Look at the Atchison Candle to really see water burn.

  • thats kewl

  • It do work. shxlion is right. It also work if you put two radio- transmitters, one on each side. Then you break down the water molecules and seperate the oxygen and the hydrogen from each other. The hydrogen is the lightest chemical there is so it lays on the water... Then you just ignite it and you have "burning water". As you know its not the water that burns but the hydrogen. I hope I made you wiser.

  • if it's the lightest, wouldn't it just rise into the air? the only way that i have seen of harvesting hydrogen from electrolysis is by capturing the bubbles.

  • You are all idiots. Don't tell people that it's bullshit without knowing facts. The electricity given off from the batteries breaks down the water molecules, and releases the hydrogen to the surface. That is what you see burning. Kamilg good job ^_^.

  • but then its not really water. at least not consumable and pure

  • never will work

  • it was on myspace too

  • only stupid people can believe that bullshit

  • trying befor saying, huh?

  • U put a little bit of oil in the water and since the oil floats, it only made the top burn

  • lol! for the ppl who tried it it doesnt work, for those who havent tried it dont waste ur time. the only thing ull be making is " water hotter than it was before "

  • dude the 'water' wus probably some fuel realy

  • hey yea is there something i missed cuz it doesnt work for me

    wat did i do wrong

  • IT DOES NOT WORK!!!!

  • 0.0 i MIGHT do that TIIME 2 WATCH CHARGING I-BOD WITH ONION

  • neato!!

  • cool
