I can't believe my ears! This is really a staggering cover! I usually shy away from covers but this one has the distinction of being every bit as good (and even better in points) than the original- and believe me, I am a die-hard Motown fanatic, so I say that with the intent of paying the highest compliment to Georgie Fame.
I'm going to have to start paying more attention to Georgie Fame!

My all time favourite Georgie track. great memories of being 18 and dancing to this on those East End saturday nights. Very cool, Georgie is stillso underated and was the ultimtae in hip when he played the Flamingo all those years ago.
The Spinners did this? Oh my. It has to be a lot different I'm sure.
As for Georgie Fame, you gotta love him. He has never been at the very top but he has always been around. Supergroups, boy bands, hip-hop, metal - they all come and go but Georgie Fame just goes on forever. Why? Cos there is something extra special about him. If he didn't invent "cool" he was sure present when somone else did. Respect.
Bear in mind that's a reference to the DETROIT Spinners who only added the word Detroit over here to avoid confusion with the Liverpool folk quartet which is who I get the impression you're thinking of.
This is THE version of this track. I've listened to the Spinners, it doesn't even jive closely to this monster. Shame there was no 7" release (In the UK atleast)...
Probably the best (and most underrated) vocalists to ever emerge from the UK. It's not often you can say that a white fella from Bristol has battered Detroit's finest.
You can find this track on a Georgie Fame CD entitled "20 Beat Classics"

Yeh yeh, real clean horn arrangements, and everything else holds up to Motown standards.. including his voice.

THIS IS THE REAL TUNE!
MY FAB ONE IN THE MID 80's. Today still deserves a place in my heart. Curiously Georg. F. full enpowered voice leaving his hammond aside.

It's decent but it's lacking. I'm not feeling the soul. It's like someone just gave him the lyrics and told him to just sing.

Such a good tune, guarantees to fill the dancefloor! Thanks for putting this up :-)

The Spinners' version has been on my top 10 favorite list for the past forty years.
But...but...I have to now admit that this is a better interpretation. Hats off to Georgie.
